Bruno Garcia, 71, of Pecos, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Hospice House of Odessa.

Chapel services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 20, 1929, in San Jose. Chih., Mex., was a retired truck operator, longtime Pecos resident and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Aurelia M. Garcia of Pecos; seven sons, Elias, Juan and Alfonso M. Garcia of Pecos, Isabel, Bruno Jr., Hilario and Hipolito M. Garcia of Midland; two daughters, Maria M. Garcia of Midland, Linda Garcia Murillo of Porvenir, Chih., Mex.; one brother, Jose M. Garcia of San Jose, Chih., Mex., Elizabeth G. Casas of Lubbock; 33 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Marie Brown

Marie Brown, 89, of Ruidoso, N.M., died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Alamogordo, N.M.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ernie Waggoner officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 13, 1912, in Nacona, Tx., was a homemaker, had lived in Ruidoso since 1994 and was a member of the First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Brown, Sr. in 1996.

Survivors include four sons, James Brown of Roswell, N.M., Kenneth Brown of Odessa, Hal Brown, Jr. of Lumberton, Tx., Seth Brown of White, Georgia; two daughters, Betty Hester of Ruidoso, N.M., Joy Ray of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are incomplete for Marie Brown, 89, who died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, in Alamagordo, N.M.

Juan Cordero

Juan Munoz Cordero, 77, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., today at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Midland.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1924, in Marfa, was a lifelong Pecos resident, retired from the Automotive Proving Grounds and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Jesus Cordero of Midland; one daughter, Frances Brown of Midland; one son, Johnny Cordero of Midland; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lloyd Chappell

Lloyd Chappell, 69, of Pecos, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at his residence.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Barstow Cemetery with Rev. J.R. Wooten officiating.

He was born May 15, 1932, in Lindale, Tx., was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War, a lifelong Pecos resident, a retired equipment operator for Texas-New Mexico Power Company and a Presbyterian.

Survivors include Lloyd Chappell, Jr. of Pecos, Curtis, Craig and Larry Chappell of San Angelo; two brothers, Edward Chappell of Arlington, Farris Chappell of Abilene; one sister, Dee White of Colorado City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Enloe

Robert D. "Bob" Enloe, 42, of Saragosa, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Hospice House of Odessa.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Ben Florez officiating. Burial was in the Saragosa Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 8, 1958, in Houston, was a water system operator, served in the United States Navy from 1977 to 1998 and had lived in Saragosa for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Gracie Briceno Enloe of Saragosa; one son, Sean Enloe of Saragosa; two daughters, Nikki Enloe of Saragosa, Marsha E. Meraz of Alpine; his father, Russell Enloe of Houston; one sister, Kathy Medlock of Arkansas and two grandchildren.

Ruben Salas, Jr.

Ruben Salas, Jr., 22, of Pecos, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in a traffic accident.

Mass was held at 11 a.m., today, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Pecos. Burial will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Crowell Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 23, 1978, in Peocs, was a correctional officer for the Reeves County Detention Center, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Monica Rivera Salas of Pecos; one son, Devan Salas of Pecos; his mother, Ceci Barrera of Crowell; his stepfather, Jesse Barrera of Crowell; his father, Ruben Salas, Sr. of Pecos; one brother, Evan Salas of Crowell.

Faustina Carrasco

Faustina M. Carrasco, 63, of Pecos, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at her residence.

A rosary will be held today, at 7:30 p.m., at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Florez officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born March 1, 1938, in Pilares, Mexico, was retired supervisor at the Pecos Nursing Home, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include one daughter, Aurora L. Franco of Pecos; three brothers, Ramon and Candelario Carrasco of Midland and Teofilo Carrasco of Kermit; two sisters, Delfina C. Navarette of Pecos and Gloria C. Roman of Chihuahua, Mex., and five grandchildren.

Jesus Lara

Jesus R. Lara, 77, of El Paso, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at Martin Chapel in El Paso.

Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m., Wednesday, at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in El Paso with burial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Lara was a lifelong resident of El Paso, a WWII Army Veteran, as well as serving in the Army National Guard, he received the Good Conduct Medal WWII, Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, retired from civil service after 38 years and was a member of Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eloisa P. Lara and one brother, Merce Lara.

Survivors include one son, Ismael Holguin; two daughters, Elizabeth L. Rivera, Yvonne L. Prado; two brothers, Antonio and Manuel Lara; four sisters, Alice Carrasco, Mary Gutierrez, Blasa Lara and Ramona Ibarra; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Patricia Brown

Patricia Ann Brown, 57, of Greenwood, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., today, in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

She was born March 14, 1944, in Estlene was raised and educated in Wellington, was employed with Hair Cottage and had been a cosmetologist for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Brown of Greenwood; her mother, Mildred Hernandez; one son, Matthew K. Whiteside; two daughters, Tressa Pinard and Kimberly Jenkins; three brothers; four sisters and six grandchildren.

Belen Rodriguez

Belen Florez Rodriguez, 46, of Saragosa, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland.

A chapel service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with burial and Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Aug. 2, 1955, in Fabens, was a homemaker, a longtime resident of Saragosa and a Jehovah Witness.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Rodriguez of Pecos; five brothers, Rudy, Robert and Melchor Rodriguez of Pecos, Ruben and Javier Rodriguez of Odessa; four sisters, Raquel Rodriguez and Prissy Paz of Pecos, Hilda Rodriguez of Kermit and Leticia Rodriguez of Houston.

Sherry Brantley

Sherry Lee Brantley, 39, of Pecos, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Mason, Tx.

Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Calvary Baptist Church with Stan Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 29, 1961, in Fort Smith, Ark., had lived in Pecos since 1974, was a sales person for Bryan's Nursery and a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Armstrong and Clifton Brantley of Pecos; one daughter, Amy Harrison of Fort Still, Okla.; her parents, Ervin and Janice Schwindt of Temple; two brothers, Sheldon Schwindt of Austin, Scott Schwindt of Temple; her grandparents, Anton and Maggie Schwindt of Dickinson, North Dakota.

Estephen Lopez, Sr.

Estephen Lopez, Sr., 49, of Pecos, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, in Hudspeth County between Van Horn and Sierra Blanca.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Miguel Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born July 19, 1952, in Pecos, was a lifetime resident, a truck driver and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Rey Lopez of Pecos; his mother, Manuela Lopez of El Paso; two sons, Carl Payan and Estephen Lopez Jr. of Pecos; one daughter, Betsy Lopez of Pecos; three brother, Francisco and Antonio Lopez of El Paso and Mariano Lopez of Austin; two sisters, Soleda Chavez and Lupe Marquez of El Paso and one grandchild.

Sherry Lee Brantley

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Sherry Lee Schwindt Brantley, 39, at Pecos Funeral Home.

She was born Oct. 29, 1961 in Fort Smith, Ark., and died Aug. 11, 2001, following a traffic accident near Mason.

She had lived in Pecos for the past 25 years and graduated from Pecos High School in 1979. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working with plants.

Survivors include her parents, Ervin and Janice Schwindt of Temple; one daughter, Amy Amrstrong of Fort Sill, Okla., two sons, Christopher Armstrong and Clifton Brantley of Pecos; two brothers, Scott Schwindt of Temple and Sheldon Schwindt of Pflugerville; and her paternal grandparents, Anton J and Magdaline Schwindt of Dickenson, N.D.

Estephen Lopez, Sr.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Estephen Lopez, Sr., 49, of Pecos, who died on Aug. 10, 2001, following a traffic accident near Van Horn.

Services will be under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Orda Tillis

Services for Orda Tillis, 66, of Pecos, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James Henderson officiating, with burial to follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. Viewing will be today and Friday morning at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.

Tillis was born on August 1, 1935 in Yorktown, Tex. And died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Reeves County Hospital.

She was a housewife and a longtime Pecos resident and was a Baptist.

She was preceeded in death by a son, James Shorter, Jr., and two sisters, Annie Mae Stanton and Ora Lee Davis. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Tillis of Pecos; her mother, Loraine Bernice Williams Walker of Pecos; one daughter, Velois M. Shorter Vaughns of El Paso; four brothers, John Wesely Kinny of Corpus Christi; William Ephrain of Colorado Springs, Co., Ira Ephraim, Jr., and Ivory Joe Walker, both of Abilene; four sisters, Jenny Robinson, Nancy James and Linda Joyce of Abilene and Bernice Allen of Arlington, Tx., eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jesusita Valenzuela, 93, of Balmorhea, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Pecos Memorial Hospital in Ft. Stockton.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Ben Florez officiating. Burial will be in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born June 16, 1908, in Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include seven daughters, Socorro Vasquez of Balmorhea, Guadalupe Ramirez of Ojinaga, Mexico, Elfida Carrasco of Manuel Benavidez, Chih., Mexico, Elida Valdez of Clayton, N.M., Maria Del Carmen Tenorio of Moreno Valley, Calif., Elsa Arguello and Socorro Ornelas of Odessa; 28 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren.

Alberto Varela, Sr.

Alberto Varela, Sr., 69, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Seabury Nursing Home in Odessa.

A rosary was held on Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa.

Was held on Friday, Aug. 3, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Odessa with Father Frank Chavez officiating. Burial was at Rosehill Cemetery in Odessa.

He was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Crystal City, was a longtime Pecos resident, had lived in Odessa for 10 years, was retired and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Belen Garcia Varela of Odessa; one son, Steve Varela of Odessa; one daughter, Maria De Guadalupe of San Bernandino, Calif.; seven brothers, Margarito Varela of Chicago, Ill., Erasmo Varela of Odessa, Juan, Joe and Ray Varela of Pecos, Jimmy Varela of Irvin and Joe Varela of Uvalde; five sisters, Mary V. Farro of Massacusetts, Angie V. Murray of Iowa, Cruz V. Bersosa of Irvin, Leticia Varela of Dallas, Yolanda Varela of Uvalde; three grandchildren, Frances Varela of Pecos, Evelyn V. Gamboa of Odessa and Vincent Varela of Odessa and two great-great grandchildren.

Shirley Langford Cowan

Shirley Langford Cowan, aged 93 years and 7 months, died at 10:20 P.M. Wednesday, August 1, 2001 in the Reeves County Hospital in Pecos, Texas. She was born December 20th 1907 in the Unity Community, Lampasas County, Texas. The second of the three children born to William Henry (Bud) Langford and Dixie Carlisle Langford, she was married to Joseph B. (J.B.) Cowan November 5th 1927. Shirley graduated from high school at Lampasas in 1922 and attended Mary Hardin Baylor College at Belton, Texas. She was preceded in the death by her husband, as well as her brother D. D. Langford and wife Travis, their daughter Lani. Also, Sister Lowell and her husband Barney Burns, all of Lampasas.

She is survived by one daughter, Dixie Cowan Burkholder and husband, Mike A. Burkholder of Pecos, Texas. Two granddaughters, Shawn Mitchell and husband, Gary Buck Mitchell of Ozona, Texas and Page Young and husband, Joe K. Young III of Dallas. Six great grandchildren, Mitchell, Megan Mitchell, Ty Mitchell, Ashley Young, Avery Young, and Joe K. (Jake) Young IV, also survive.

A graveside memorial service will be held, honoring Shirley, at 6:00 P.M. August 4th at The Smith Cemetery, near School Creek, in Lampasas County.

The family requests that memorials be sent to The School Creek Baptist Church, Route 1, Box 133A, Lampasas, TX 76550, or the Smith Cemetery Perpetual Care Trust Fund, at the same address, or the charity of your choice.

Christina Sanchez

Christina Sanchez, 80, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Florez officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born April 1, 1921, in Balmorhea, a lifetime resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Gabriel Chavez of Lubbock and Benjamin Chavez of Pecos; seven daughters, Anastacia Mendoza, Socorro Mesa, Lidia Perez, Bertha Gervacio and Mary Varela of Pecos, Paula Chavez of Odessa and Isabel Garcia of Lubbock; one sister, Juanita Romero of Roswell, N.M.; 28 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren.

Alberto Varela, Sr.

Alberto Varela, Sr., 69, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Seabury Nursing Home in Odessa.

A rosary will be held today at 8 p.m., at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa.

Loraine Austin

Loraine Reed Austin, 82, of Willcox, Ariz., died Saturday, July 21, 2001 in Willcox.

Private cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium with private memorial services to be held at a later date in Pecos.

She was born June 1, 1919, in Moran, went to Willcox in 1946 from Pecos, attended business college and worked for Western Cotton Oil, was part owner in Austin Drug Store, in Willcox, and a past Grand Matron in the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Austin and a brother, Jack Reed.

Survivors include two sisters, Edna Clayton Dewees of Mentone, Betty Golmon of Seminole; five nieces and two nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Willcox Animal Shelter.

Jeannette Alligood

Charlene Jeannette Alligood, 54, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Services have been set for 2 p.m. today at West Park Baptist Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 5, 1946, in Waco, was CEO of Allcomm Company, a longtime Pecos resident and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Alligood of Pecos; two sons, Donald Lee Alligood of Pecos, Ronald E. Alligood of Ft. Hood; four sisters, Larue Reich of Engleton, Colo., Linda Carmickle of Portland, Patsy Wiederkehr of Freer, Debbie Dammon of Dallas and three grandchildren.

Lucile Camp

Lucile Camp, a lifetime Pecos resident, died Saturday, July 21, 2001.

A memorial service will be held in August in Pecos. Arrangements will be announced later.

Camp, 95, was born Dec. 20, 1905, and attended the University of California and Texas Woman's University, was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), was a founding member of the original Carnegie Library and supported its successor, the Reeves County Library, all her life. She was a member of the Merry Wives Club and treasurer of WCTU.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Keith Camp; her brother, Billie Prewit and her sister, Irene Prewit Morrison.

Survivors include one son, Jim Sam Camp of Sugarland, Tx.; two daughters, Judy Camp Sauer of Houston, Jeane Camp McIntosh of Dallas; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, Reeves County Library, The West of the Pecos Museum or a charity of your choice.

Jane Spence

Jane Spence, 80, of Big Spring, died Monday, July 23, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 26, at Trinity Memorial Park with Ralph Anderson, minister of Church of Christ Birdwell Lane, officiating.

She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Iredell, had lived in Fort Stockton, later moved to Barstow where she lived for 22 years before moving to Big Spring in 1991, was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ Birdwell Lane.

Survivors include two sons, John Spence of Big Spring, Richard Spence of Moab, Utah; one brother, Joe Bowan of Las Vegas and four grandchildren.

Genoveva Gonzales

Genoveva "Eva" Gonzales, 56, of Pecos, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at Odessa Medical Center.

She was born May 4, 1945, in San Carlos, Benavidez, Mexico, was a lifetime resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Remigio Gonzales, Sr. and one son, Remigio Gonzales, Jr.

Survivors include her parents, Andres Garcia and Jobita Garcia; seven brothers, Tomas, Gus, Andy and Saul Garcia of Crane, Poncho Garcia of Hobbs, N.M., Hector Garcia of San Antonio and Rudy Garcia of Midland; three sisters, Norma Jean Gonzales of Fort Stockton, Rosie Jones of Hobbs, N.M. and Brenda Duran of Fort Stockton and several nieces and nephews.

Jose "Matita" N. Mata, 82, of Pecos, died Sunday, July 22, 2001 at Reeves County Hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Lubbock, was a retired farm laborer and a Catholic.

Mata was preceded in death by three sons, Jesus, Mario and Jose Mata.

Hilda Stoner

Hilda Isabel Stoner, 34, died Sunday, July 22, 2001.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Monterrey, Mexico.

She was born Nov. 7, 1966, in Villaldamanl, Mexico, she was a supervisor at Anchor West, had lived in Pecos since 1993 and was a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Stoner of Pecos; one son, Jose Loa of Pecos; one daughter, Cirene Fuentes of Pecos; her parents, Maria del Carmen Fuentes and Eliseo Fuentes of Pecos; her grandfather, Hilario Valdez of Mexico; three brothers, Eliseo Isrrael, Juan Manuel and Jose Juan Fuentes of Mexico; three sisters, Maria Elena Fuentes and Maria del Carmen Fuentes of Mexico, and Marina Fuentes of Pecos.

Lucia Renteria

Funeral services for Lucia Renteria, 88 will be held at 2 p.m. PDT on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills, Calif. Renteria died on Friday, July 20, 2001 in Covina, Calif.

She was born on April 5, 1913 in Barstow.

Survivors include two brothers, Simon and Francisco Rodriguez; two sisters, Aurora Avila and Delia Guerrero; 11 children, Frances Castillo of Pecos, Lydia Orona of San Angelo, Stella Usery or Montclair, Calif., Ysabel Renteria of West Covina, Calif., Angela Cobo of Fontana, Calif., Rosemary Aguilar of El Monte, Calif., Ruben Renteria of San Jose, Calif., Simon Renteria of San Dimas, Calif., Ramon Renteria of El Monte, Calif., George Renteria of El Monte, Calif., and Sammy Aguilar of Anaheim, Calif.; along with approximately 57 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Jesse Bush

Jesse W. Bush, 88, of Pecos, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, at First Christian Church in Pecos with Rev. Clark Ford officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Saragosa, was a lifelong Pecos resident, served in the Coast Guard during World War II, was a retired petroleum land man and a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, May Jarine Bush of Pecos; two daughters, Sharon St. Clair of Abilene, Gwen Geltemeyer of Midland; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Coy Miller

Coy Miller, 78, of Pecos, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Pecos Nursing Home.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Monday, at Greenwood Cemetery, with Rev. Gordon Cox officiating.

He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Levelland, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a retired truck driver and a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Virdie Liles of Monahans and Roxie Ham of Wolfford; two brothers, Clarence and Albert Miller of Artesia, N.M.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
