Dorothy Barton

PECOS, Feb. 3, 2003 -Dorothy M. Barton, 81, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Services were held at 10 a.m., today, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Muse, Okla., was a lifetime Pecos resident, a beautician and a Baptist.

Barton was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Shine" Barton.

Survivors include one son, Scott Barton of Fort Davis; one daughter, Cheryl Bippes of Pecos; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Toribio Gonzales

Toribio Lerma Gonzales, 67, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital, after a long illness.

Services were held at 10 a.m., today, at the First Baptist Church of the Nazarene, in Odessa, with Rev. Terry Pierce officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

He was born April 16, 1935, in Big Wells, Tx.

Survivors include his wife, Felma Gonzales of Odessa; two sons, Amado and Pedro Gonzales of Odessa; one daughter, Leticia Gonzales of Odessa; two brothers, Augustine and Amado Gonzales of Odessa; five sisters, Cayetana Sauceda and San Juana Ruiz of Odessa, Cecilia Robledo of Portland, Ignacia Guerra of Sinton, Manuela Lira of Austin and four grandchildren.

Elvia Herrera

Elvia V. Herrera, 57, of Odessa, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Odessa Medical Center.

Cremation will take place on Tuesday at Trinity Memorial Park and Crematory in Big Spring.

She was born Nov. 6, 1945, in Crystal City, was nurses aide for Nurses Unlimited, a longtime resident of Odessa and a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Francisco Vega Jr. of Fort Worth, Raymond Vega of Pecos; two daughters, Irma C. Guajardo and Elaine Rangel of Pecos; five brothers, Abel, Arnold, Frank, Tommy, Roy and Ernest Vargas of Littlefield; two sisters, Petra Vargas and Isaura Ybarra of Littlefield; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

PECOS, Jan. 31, 2003 - Rena Lambert, 93, of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Pecos Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 2, at McAdoo Cemetery in Crosbyton with Troy Neff officiating and Jimmy Neff assisting.

She was born Jan. 17, 1910, in Callahan County, was a member of the McAdoo Methodist Church, the Home Demonstration Club, was formerly a beautician and at one time owned her own beauty shop in McAdoo and moved to Pecos from Crosbyton six years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Lloyd Lambert on Feb. 1, 1965 and one brother Archie Neff.

Survivors include one daughter, Cornelia Brantley of Pecos; one son, Lee Lambert of Post; two brothers, Nobel Neff of Weatherford, Dale Neff of McAdoo; three sisters, Wilma Mulvihill of Hereford, Lena Stock of Phoenix, Ariz., Joyce Davis of Hereford; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

PECOS, Jan. 31, 2003 - Vidala Carrasco Contreras, 87, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Pecos Nursing Home.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born April 29, 1916, in San Jose, Tx., was a housewife and a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Roberto C. Contreras of Midland, Miguel C. Contreras of Pecos; two daughters, Mary C. Contreras and Rachel C. Padilla of Pecos; two sisters, Gregoria C. Contreras of Loving, N.M. Filomena Ramirez of Pecos; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank Deishler

Frank B. Deishler, 72, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at his residence.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. W.L. Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born July 25, 1930, in Winnsboro, Tx., was a U.S. Army veteran, retired field pumper for the Town of Pecos City and a Protestant.

Deishler was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Deishler.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Deishler of Pecos, Ben Deishler of Barstow; one daughter, Sue Evans of Pecos; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Edward Kelly

Edward "Ed" Elton Kelly, 77, of Pecos, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born May 17, 1925, in Amaherst, Tx., was heavy equipment operator, and had served in the United States Army in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Kelly of Pecos; four daughters, Rena Sue Scroggins of Healdton, Okla., Connie K. Coleman of Marshfield, Mo., Louise Lewis of Roswell, N.M., Cheri Brisco of Roswell, N.M.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Antonio Renteria

Antonio "Tony" Renteria, 88, of Toyah, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at St. Emily's Catholic Church in Toyah.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at St. Emily's Catholic Church with Father Ben Flores officiating. Burial will be in Toyah Cemetery.

He was born June 13, 1914, in Toyah, a lifelong Toyah resident, had served in the United States Army, was a retired heavy machine operator and a Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Simon Patino Jr. of Pecos; two daughters, Linda Machuca of Pecos, Delia McGee of Arkansas; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are incomplete for Ed Kelly, 77, of Pecos, who died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at Odessa Medical Center Hospital. Services will be under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home.

Priscilla Ann Palomino

Priscilla Ann Palomino, 37, of La Porte died Jan. 25, 2003 in La Porte. Funeral mass was held at 11:30 a.m., today at St. Mary's Catholic Church officiated by Father Eric Pitre, with interment at the La Porte Cemetery under the direction of the Paul U. Lee-La Porte Funeral Home.

She was born February 22, 1965 in Pecos, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mrs. Palomino is survived by her husband, Mike Palomino, and 5 Children, Zachary, Jovanna, Bianca, Alexa, and Michael Palomino II, all of La Porte .Her parents, Antonio and Emma (Armendarez) Urquidi, one sister, Annette Nichols and husband, Israel of Rowlett, Tx and one brother, Tony Urquidi of Austin.

Neoma Peters

Neoma F. Peters, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Sienna Care Center in Odessa.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.E. McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 3, 1908, in Alabama, was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include four sons, Noble Blount of Coleman, Gene Blount of Alice, Tommy Blount of Jacksonville, Tex., Greg Peters of Wink; four brothers, Edgar Davis of Odessa, Calvin Davis of Odessa, Marion Davis of Temple, Edwin Davis of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Emma Gene Choate of Odessa, Faye Nell of Baley, Calif.; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Vicente Natividad, 80, of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Trine Fuentes and Father Miguel Angel Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Barstow, was a retired laborer, a lifetime resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include four sons, Abel Natividad of Decatur, Tx., Vicente Jr. and Alvaro Natividad of Pecos, Jose Natividad of Denver City, Tx.; three daughters, Carmen Hollis of Morrisville, Ind., Belen Adame of Pecos, Margie Widner of Farmington, N.M.; three brothers, Jose, Benjamin "Ben" and Ruben Natividad of Pecos; one sister, Juaqina Fuentez of Pecos; 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Billy J. Doan

Billy J. Doan, 77, of Merkel, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at Merkel First Baptist Church with Reverends T.C. Melton, Dick Griffith and Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

He was born Mary 23, 1925, in Blair, graduated from Merkel High School, was an electrician for Humble Oil, ran the Sportsman Lodge at Oak Creek Lake, owned 9th St. Grocery and Doan's Feed Store, was a farmer and rancher and civil service at Dyess Air Force Base and was a Baptist.

He was a member of the Merkel Masonic Lodge #710 A.F. & A.M., received his 50 year pin just a few months ago and was past worshipful master.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Chris, Clayton and Don Doan.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Windham of Pecos, Glenna Wright of Merkel; two sons, Gary Doan of Merkel, Gaylon Doan of Pecos; one sister, Sis Chenault of Pecos; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jose Esparza, 59, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.

Viewing will begin today at 2 p.m. and continue all day Thursday, at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at Kindgom Hall, 11th and Loop 338, in Odessa, with Elder Alvaro Luna officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

He was born April 22, 1943, in Corpus Christi and was a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Esparza of Odessa; one son, Joe Esparza Jr. of Odessa; three daughters, Juanita E. Valerio, Aurora E. Hignojos, Lydia S. Aguirre of Odessa; two sisters, Mary Wages, Francisca E. Garcia of Houston; five brothers, Alfredo, Hector, Richard and David Esparza of Houston, Alfonso Esparza of Corpus Christi and 13 grandchildren.

Pilar Q. Montoya, 67, of Balmorhea, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 12, 1935, in Los Fresnos, Mexico, was a retired farmer and rancher, a lifetime Balmorhea resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Ramona B. Montoya of Balmorhea; one son, Pilar Montoya Jr. of Odessa; two daughters, Braulia M. Natividad and Luz Barrandey of Balmorhea; three brothers, Chonito Montoya of Monahans, Alejo Madrid of Lovington, N.M., Isidro Montoya of Ojinaga, Mexico; three sisters, Christina Colonado and Maria Sanchez of Balmorhea, Francisca Guerrero of Woodland, Calif; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pilar Bustamante, 58, of Pecos, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

Bustamante was born Oct. 24, 1944, in Chihuahua, Mexico and was a Catholic.

Survivors include two sisters, Natividad Bustamante and Margarita Natividad of Pecos and a host of nieces and nephews.

Luisa S. Gallardo, 86, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Hospice House in Odessa.

Services were held at 2 p.m., today, Monday, Jan. 20, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born July 16, 1916, in Candelaria, Tx., was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Carol Howard

Carol Howard, 48, of Big Spring, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today, at Myers and Smith Chapel in Big Spring with private burial in Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

She was born Aug. 30, 1954 in Pecos, grew up and lived in Pecos most of her life before moving to Big Spring in 1983.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joann Pitts in 1992.

Survivors include one brother, Jerry Edwards of Pecos and her step-father, J.T. Pitts of Pecos.

Opal Bowie

Opal Irene Bowie, 82, of Pecos, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Pecos Nursing Home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greer Willis officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Quinlan, Okla., was a retired grocery store clerk and a Baptist.

Bowie was preceded in death by her husband, Arlon Bowie; two daughters, Arlene Hill and Jeanette Storms; one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include one son-in-law, Norman Hill; three brothers, Bud Patrick of Salome, Ariz., J.B. Patrick of Stigler, Okla., Jim Patrick of Grasham, Ore.; five sisters, Virginia Higgins of Modesto, Calif., Lois Nell and Pat Hynes of Bakersfield, Calif., Barbara Wheeler of Alexandria, Ark., Darlene Back of Olmito, Tx.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Edward J. Holguin, 39, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his residence in Galveston.

He was born April 24, 1963.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at St. James Baptist Church, 324 S. Peach, Pecos.

He was preceded in death by his father, George A. Holguin.

Survivors include his partner, William Lambright; his mother, Gloria J. Holguin of Midland; three sisters, Barbara J. Holguin of Midland, Rebecca H. Dominguez and Imelda Williams of Pecos; three nephews and one niece.

Mauro Carrasco

Mauro Lujan Carrasco, 66, of Coyanosa, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in Coyanosa.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., today, at St. Isadore Catholic Church in Coyanosa.

Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, at St. Isadore Catholic Church in Coyanosa with Father David Herrera officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos.

He was born April 18, 1936, in Presidio, was a retired farmer, a lifetime resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Evangelina G. Carrasco of Coyanosa; one son, Mauro Carrasco Jr. of Houston; three daughters, Maria Lorena Gonzales of Midland, Veronica Padilla of Houston, Lourdes Carrasco of Lakeland, Fla.; six brothers, Arturo Carrasco of Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico, Jesus Gomez of Pecos, Francisco Lujan of Midland, Pedro Gomez of Hobbs, N.M., Guadalupe Gomez of Odessa, Jose De La Luz of Houston; three sisters, Augustina Carrasco of San Carlos, Mexico, Carmen Lujan of Hobbs, N.M., Albina Librada Rodriguez of Pecos and six grandchildren.

Services are incomplete for Opal Irene Bowie Lovelace, 82, of Pecos, who died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Pecos Nursing Home.

Edwin Meacham

Edwin "Ed" L. Meacham, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Elder Paul Cooper officiating.

Meacham was born March 23, 1920, to Charles Valmer and Thelma Mary Meacham in Turkey, Tx., where he was raised and educated. He was a farmer in the Turkey area. In 1955, the family moved to Pecos, where he worked as Parts Manager at Pecos Motors until his retirement in 1982. In 1982 the couple moved to Midland to be closer to their daughter Sandra and her husband Jimmy. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Meacham; one son, Pete Lynn Meacham and his wife Marilyn of Grapevine; one daughter, Sandra Joan Dingler and her husband, Jimmy of Midland; two brothers, Paul Meacham of Fritz, Tx. and Charles Pete Meacham of Junction; two sisters, Nora Elizabeth Buchanan of Dimmit, Tx and Peggy Jane Saunders of Junction; grandchildren include: Darin Dingler of Holister, Calif., Derek Dingler of Charleston, South Carolina, Dawn Clayton of Kodiak, Alaska. Great-grandchildren include: Victoria Claire Dingler of Charleston, South Carolina, Derek James Dingler II of Charleston, South Carolina, Jessica Meacham of Kodiak, Alaska and Ashley Shay Dingler of Midland. Several nephews, nieces and cousins and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by one grandson, Barry Meacham.

Services are entrusted and in the care of Pipkin Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers: Derek Dingler, Darin Dingler, Hugh Eudy, Wilbert Holub, Jimmy Dingler and Pete Meacham.

Louise Ellis

Louise Phipps Ellis, 62, of Lake Brownwood, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, at Fairview Cemetery with Terry Way officiating.

She was born April 11, 1940, in San Saba, attended school in Baytown, was a housewife and had lived at Lake Brownwood since 1995.

Ellis was preceded in death by her father, Ottis McHorse and a grandson, Sam Cavness.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Ellis of Lake Brownwood; four sons, Chris Dunaway of Brownwood, John Parker of Orange, Roy Melvin of Irving, Jimmy Melvin of Marfa; one daughter, Lee Silger of Brownwood; her mother, Inez McHorse of Brownwood; one brother, Warren McHorse of Pecos; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alfonso Lujan

Alfonso Oscar "Moosie" Lujan, 59, of Marfa, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, at the church with burial in Merced Cemetery.

He was born May 31, 1943, in Marfa, owned his own business, Highland Tires and Service and Highland Wrecker Service, attended and graduated from Marfa High School, a past member of the Marfa Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Catholic Church.

Lujan was preceded in death by his parents, Margarita and Alfonso Lujan Jr.; one brother, Harry Joe Lujan; a brother-in-law Adan Ramirez; one niece, Erica Ann Dominguez and two nephews, Daniel and Sammy Lujan.

Survivors include his wife, Adela Dominguez of Marfa; one step-daughter, Andrea Conners; two sisters, Lucy Lujan Dominguez of Pecos, Mary Lou Ramirez of Marfa; five nieces; four nephews; one granddaughter and numerous cousins.

Harold Gustafson

Harold E. Gustafson, 89, of Pecos, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2002, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, at Fairview Cemetery with Tommy Williamson officiating.

Gustafson was born June 9, 1913, in Victor, Colo., and had lived in Pecos since 1954. He worked as a miner in early years in Arizona prior to serving in the military with the United States Army, was a sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II from 1942-1945, worked for El Paso Natural Gas in Casa Grande, Ariz. and owned an apartment complex in Phoenix, Ariz. He was employed by Pecos Growers Gas that later became Texas Oil and Gas, was Pack Master for the Cub Scouts several years, was a longtime Lions Club member and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Gustafson, on Aug. 23, 1975; two brothers, Don and Jeff Gustafson and one sister, Josephine Birnbaum.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Gustafson of Pecos; one daughter, Sandra Gustafson of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Roger Gustafson of Mountain View, Wyo., Edwin Gustafson of Lyman, Wyo.; one sister, Dottie Dickenson of Auburn, Calif.; four brothers, Carl Gustafson of San Bernardino, Calif., Will Gustafson of Fresno, Calif., Ben Gustafson of Sacramento, Calif., David Gustafson of Diamond Springs, Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

J. Trevor McNutt

J. Trevor McNutt, 87, of New Mexico, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002.

Graveside services were held Dec. 28, at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in San Teresa, N.M.

He was born April 10, 1915, in Jacksonville, Tx. The McNutt family relocated to El Paso, in the 1920's, where as an adult, McNutt was engaged in petroleum refining and sales. He married Carolyn Dusang McNutt in 1937 and she preceded him in death in 1995. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge #1111, Eastside Rotary Club and an active amateur radio operator.

Survivors include two sons, James T. McNutt, Jr. of El Paso, Robert M. McNutt of Pecos; grandchildren, Briar L. McNutt-Barrett of Pittsburg, Pa., Blaine McNutt of Mahamet, Ill., Melissa Ann McNutt of Phoenix, Ariz., and J. Trevor McNutt III, M.D. of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Cecil E. McNutt, Ray E. McNutt of El Paso; cousin, H.L. "Zu" McNutt Jr. of Truth or Consequences, N.M. and great-grandson Dashiell Martin Barrett of Pittsburg, Pa.

Grace Conway

Grace Pitts Conway, 84, of Midland, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Kermit Cemetery with Rev. Gary Redwine officiating.

She was born June 15, 1918, in Jonesboro, Ark., was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in Wink, previous resident of Wink, Pecos and was currently residing in Midland.

Conway was preceded in death by her husbands: C.O. "Shorty" Pitts and John Conway; two sons, John Pitts of Midland and Wayne Pitts of Odessa.

Survivors include four sons, J.T. Pitts of Pecos, Gary Pitts of Sunset, La., Sammy and Steve Pitts of Midland; three sisters, Wanda Fason of Kermit, Tylis Parker and Betty Smith of Houston; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cooper Funeral Chapel, Inc. of Kermit is in charge of arrangements.
