Amber-Lee Matta

Amber-Lee Leslie Matta, a newborn, died on August 27, 2002 at the Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Matta was born on August 27, 2002 to Steve and Debbie Matta of Pecos.

Graveside Services will be on Saturday, August 31 at 2 p.m., in Greenwood Cemetery, with Father Ben Flores officiating.

Survivors include parents Steve and Debbie Matta; maternal grandparents, Jesus "Chuna" Silvas of Pecos and Olivia Silvas of Arlington; paternal grandmother Mary Matta of Pecos; two brothers, Allen Michael Alumina and Landon Ray Matta of Pecos; and one sister, Leslie Hidalgo of Lubbock.

Services are incomplete for Amber-Lee Leslie Matta, infant, who died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Odessa Medical Center.

Frankie Dennison

Frankie Fernandes Dennison, 89, of Odessa, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Warren and Rev. Johnny Young officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dennison moved to Odessa in 1926, in attended Baylor Business College; was a secretary at Pritchard and Abbott for 27 years before retirement and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, John C. Dennison of San Antonio; one sister, Ruth Fernandes of Lubbock; three brothers, J.W. and Doug Fernandes of Pecos, Larry L. Fernandes of Winkler County; three grandsons; one step-granddaughter; one step-grandson; one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard San Roman

Richard San Roman, 55, of Zapata, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Mercy Minor Care Center after a sudden heart attack at his home.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Rose Garden Funeral Home.

The funeral procession will depart from Rose Garden Funeral Home, at 8:45 a.m., for a 9 a.m., funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Zapata.

Graveside services will follow at 9 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in San Angelo.

San Roman graduated from San Angelo State University, after graduation moved to Pecos where he began a short career with the Texas Employment Commission, was offered a career opportunity within the banking system in Pecos and moved to Zapata in 1993, in his quest to advance in his banking career, to accept the senior vice president position which he held until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia M. San Roman; one son, Stephen San Roman; two daughters, Sarah and Jacqueline San Roman; one sister, Sylvia Ramirez and one grandson.

Santiago Carrasco

Services are incomplete for Santiago "Jimmy" Subia Carrasco, 74, of Balmorhea, who died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in Odessa.

Jesus Castillo

Jesus Perez Castillo, 72, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, in El Paso.

A vigil service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., today at San Jose Funeral Home.

Mass will be held at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, at St. Pius Catholic Church with burial in Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Castillo was a Korean Veteran and retired as a civil engineer from El Paso Highway Department.

Survivors include his wife, Julieta Castillo; one son, Jesus P. Castillo, Jr.; one daughter, Narda Armenta; six brothers, Miguel, Raul, Hector and Javier Castillo, Enrique and Manuel Hermosillo; five sisters, Dolores Castaneda, Malili Lara, Margarita P. Castillo, Graciela Mayorga, Elvira P. Castillo; his step-mother, Emilia P. Castillo; one step-son, Jesus Gilberto Maese; three step-daughters, Irma Garcia, Yolanda Maese and Bonnie Diaz; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Darrell Grogan

Darrell N. Grogan, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Reeves County Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, at West Park Baptist Church with Rev. Rey Carreon and Rev. J.E. "Mac" McCormick officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at Spring Creek Cemetery in Stamford, Tx.

He was born March 30, 1911, in Breckenridge, was a retired heavy equipment mechanic and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Lota Grogan of Pecos; two daughters, Bette Garner of Perryton, Rozan Crow of Roswell, N.M.; one son, Drury Grogan of Borger; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Darrell Grogan, 91, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002 at Reeves County Hospital.

Georgia Hayes

Georgia Florine Beane Hayes, 90, of Marvell, Ark., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at her home.

Memorial services are pending and will be announced later.

She was born July 20, 1912, was a retired school teacher, teaching 28 years in Texas, 18 years in Plains and the remaining years in Barstow and Sanderson.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Armstrong of Marvell, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Minnie Curb

PECOS, Aug. 15, 2002 - Minnie Ethel Curb, 93, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at the Lois Owens Assisted Living Home.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Smalling officiating.

She was born July 4, 1909, in Stith, Texas, went to Odessa in 1987 from Pecos, was a homemaker and a member of the Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ.

Curb was preceded in death by her husband, Lois Chapman Curb in 1996.

Survivors include one daughter, Minnie Lois Neal of Odessa; one sister, Una Walker of Sentinel, Okla.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joe Carpenter

PECOS, Aug. 13, 2002 - Alfred Joseph "Joe" Carpenter, 85, of El Paso, formerly of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at White Acres Nursing Home in El Paso.

Services are scheduled for 1:15 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, at Harding Orr McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel, 320 Montana Ave., with burial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at the First Christian Church in Pecos.

He was born Oct. 13, 1916, in El Paso, graduated from El Paso High School and Texas College of Mines, worked for Fabens Motor Company and McCormac Tractor and Implement Company, retired from the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Murphy DD-603 during the Invasion of Normandy, including the bombardment of Cherbourg from June 6-25, 1944, moved to Pecos in the early `50's where he owned the Ginger Blue Ranch until the early `70's, also retired from the Texas Employment Commission where he was manager from 1963 to 1978. In Pecos he was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post, the American Legion, the Pecos Gun and Rifle Club, and Leroy's Coffee Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marion McCormac Carpenter and one daughter, Linda Carpenter Faulkner.

Survivors include one brother, Andrew H. Carpenter of Indian Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Nancy Tyler and two grandchildren.

Cruz Anaya

PECOS, Aug. 12, 2002 - Cruz R. Anaya, 63, of Pecos, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at her residence.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Barstow.

Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church with Father Miguel Angel Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Barstow Cemetery.

She was born May 3, 1939, in Barstow, was a sales clerk for Wal-Mart and a Catholic.

Survivors include four sons, Gilbert Anaya of Seminole, Larry and Jesse Anaya of Pecos and Rene Anaya of Midland; one daughter, Aida Leyva of Kermit; her parents, Felix and Maria Rodriguez of Barstow; two brothers, Reyes and Manuel Rodriguez of Barstow; two sisters, Freda Griffin of Barstow, Susan Rodriguez of Barstow and five grandchildren.

Rita Carrasco

Rita R. Carrasco, 79, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the INS Nursing Home in Lubbock.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Miguel Angel Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

She was born May 22, 1923, in Pecos, was a homemaker, a lifelong Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Carrasco was preceded in death by her brother, Antonio Rayos.

Survivors include three sons, Roy Salas of Lafayette, La., Richard Rayos of Anchorage, Alaska, Orlando Rayos of Odessa; three daughters, Maria Rivas of Lubbock, Becky Wynn of Pine River, Minn., Sonya R. Gonzales of Odessa; two brothers, Esteban Rayos of Pecos, Angel "Canelo" Rayos of Pecos; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Florencio Baeza

Florencio Baeza, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., today, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Serafin Avenido officiating.

He was born in Presidio, was a laborer, a ranch hand and a Catholic.

Survivors include one brother, Alvaro Baeza of Snyder; four sisters, Emma Villanueva of Pecos, Hortenica Ramirez and Anita Garcia, of Presidio and Carmen Medrano of Odessa.

Services are incomplete for Rita Carrasco, 79, of Pecos, who died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in a Lubbock hospital.

Schyler Fain

Schyler Lee Fain, four-years-old, of Fort Stockton, died Monday, July 29, 2002.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 4, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Doctor Jim Miles and Father David Herrera officiating. Burial will be in Easthill Cemetery.

Schyler was born March 12, 1998 in Fort Stockton.

He was preceded in death by great-great grandparents, Odas and Dora Eunice Ward, Hollis and Loraine Head and great-uncle Ronald Jack Ward.

Survivors include his mother, Julie Fain of Fort Stockton; great-grandparents, Odas Jr. and Jackey Ward of Fort Stockton; grandparents, Holly Johnson of Ruidoso, N.M., Carry Lee Shepard of Monahans and one uncle, James Robert Jepson of Fort Stockton.

Howell Lewis

Howell "Buff" Lewis, 90, of Lewis Ranch, Crow Flats, N.M., died Thursday, Aug. 1, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Cienega Cemetery (Dell City) with Pastor Robert H. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Cienega Cemetery, Crow Flats.

He was born Sept. 27, 1911, in Pinon, N.M. and spent his entire life on the Lewis Ranch in Crow Flats, N.M., as a cattle rancher.

Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Vida Evelyn Head Lewis; three brothers, Martin Lewis, Jr., Ray and Dee Lewis.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew Lewis of San Angelo, Gerald Lewis of Pecos, Pete Lewis of Crow Flats, N.M.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Teresa Gonzales

Teresa Edith Gonzales, 55, of Odessa died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at her residence.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Miguel Sanchez officiating.

She was born Dec. 1, 1946, in Tacoma, Wash., was a caseworker with the Texas Department of Human Services and a Catholic.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert M. and Florentina F. Gonzales.

Survivors include one sister, Anita Nunez of Barstow; one brother, Edward Gonzales and wife Rita of Pecos; two nieces, Erika and Elida Gonzales of Pecos; three nephews, Eduardo Gonzales of Pecos, Mario and his wife, Rosa Nunez of Monahans, Omar Nunez of Barstow; one grand-niece, Marissa Nunez of Monahans and two grand-nephews, Jaime and Adrian Nunez of Monahans.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Diabetic Society, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Wilma Reynolds

Wilma Reynolds, 65, of Monahans, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Odessa Medical Center.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Monahans, with Rev. Gordon Cox officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 16, 1937, in Nolan County, Tx., had lived in Monahans for 35 years and was retired from Southwestern Bell.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Reynolds of Monahans, Zane Reynolds of Aransas Pass, B.J. Reynolds, Jr. of Odessa; one sister, Annette Vessells of Odessa; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Paul Weisent

Paul A. Weisent, 88, of Wickett, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his home.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at First Baptist Church of Wickett with Larry Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

He was born May 4, 1914, in Marion, Ohio and was a department manager for the plumbing department of Sears.

Survivors include three sons, Dwain Weisent of Wickett, Phillip Weisent of Walhonding, Ohio and Douglas Weisent of Sanford, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Armbrewster of Pecos, Jane Osborn of Marion, Ohio; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
