I just wanted to let everyone know that I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. I wrote earlier in the year that I am deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. Well, our year and a half away from our families is almost over. We are scheduled to attend a welcome home ceremony in Waco, Texas on December 10th. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who emailed me throughout the year with words of support and your prayers. During my tour, I have seen many different places and people. I want you to know that in speaking with the local nationals of Iraq, I can honestly say that our coalition forces ARE making a difference. Today is Veteran's Day. Remember the sacrifices of all the men and women and their families from the years past to the present. Raise your flags high and say a prayer for us all. See Ya'll Soon!!! SFC Jimmy Leonard

Not sure if many people remember the Kirkwood family that lived in Pecos from 1964 to 1978. The four brothers were Ronnie class of 1970, Steve class of 1973, Kevin would have been class of 1978 but moved, and Paul would have been class of 1980 but also moved. Our mothers name was Rachel. We just wanted to let people know that she died on Thursday November 10th. She died at home with Paul at her side. All of us brothers want to let everyone know that she Loved Pecos, her friends and Loved raising us kids in Pecos. We will have a memorial in Ruidoso, NM sometime around Christmas. If anyone has any questions please contact Paul in Artesia,NM. My e-mail is pkirkwood@bulldogs.org. Again thanks for the memories. From Paul, Kevin, Steve, and Ronnie Kirkwood. Hello Pecos, Don't know if you you remember me or not but I visited Pecos the other day and it felt great to see some familiar faces. It was neat to see that Pecos had a new Police Facility. Peggy it is so good to see that you are still there and busy. I know mom and dad would like to hear from you. They are still kicking around in the big city of Olney. 940-564-2847. I also wondered about the class of 1978. We had a class party in 1998 4th of July and it was great seeing everyone that showed. I was wondering about the next one- maybe in 2008. We had group pictures at the last one and paid money for them but I never received one and don't what else is to happen with that. Does anyone know?? Brenda Martinez Mckinney maybe would know. Any way good toÊbe in touch with Pecos. Yours truely, Steve Lauderdale now in Lubbock.

Hello, this is a response to a message posted by D. Hernandez (email address reads: mscoachhernandez@sbcglobal.net) You were wondering about Jose Hipolito Rivera from Pecos High School. Ok, I am in contact with his older brother, Victor who is a police officer in Midland, Texas. He told me that Hipolito is living with his parents on the same farm where he grew up. Victor's email address is: vrivera@ci.midland.tx.us . If you want, email him and ask him for a phone number or address. Hope you find him. God bless! Betty (Olivas) Jones "Class of '75"

My deepest sympathies go out to the family of Bill Carrico. I had him for chior, and he was one of the best in his league. From band to chior, everyone seemed to love him. He had a huge presence, and he could sure find a way to bring out the best in everyone. I have to tell this little tidbit about Lance. 17 years old, and that was the first place I ever drank tequila was in his house when they lived there in Pecos. Tequila shots with TJ Swan chasers. I can tell you now that hangover lasted 25 years. LOL It took me that long to start drinking tequila again, and I DO NOT chase it with wine. Here's to the graduates of 1982!! I got a call from Earl the Pearl, he wants to do a mini get-together here in Dallas sometime in July. Y'all come join us!! -- Kim

My name is Marquita (Bowers) Wanslow.  When we grew up in Pecos, there were 4 of us kids, Me, Charles, David, and Truman Bowers.  We lived on Eddy Street in the two large rock houses that were side by side.   If anyone remembers our family, our Brother David has pancreatic cancer.  He lives in San Antonio.    The family would appreciate your prayers for a home town boy.  David was a very popular boy when he was in HighSchool, and he was married for years to Vicki Douglas.  They had 3 children.  They have both remarried, hopefully happily for both of them and their families.   My brother Charlie Bowers still lives in the area as do his children.  We would all appreciate your love and concern for David.   Marquita (Bowers) Wanslow

Hello Pecos!  Just wanted to let everyone know that the 30th reunion for the Class of '75 was FANTASTIC!  It was great to see all of our classmates who made the trip to Dallas.  The location and setting was perfect and the weekend went by too fast.  This was the best reunion we have ever had.  For those of you who were unable to make it, we understand and you were truly and sincerely missed. I hope we might be able to get together again sometime.  For those of you who chose not to be a part of it . . . well, we talked about you too.

It is so fortunate for us to have grown up in such a wonderful community during such a wonderful and amazing time that any opportunity for us to get together should be looked upon with great anticipation.  We will always be connected by a common bond.  Our ties to Pecos and to each other are in the heart, not the location. Can't wait until the next one!

I am shocked to read all of this about blaming Catholics for theft!?? I personally belonged to the Christian Church in my years in Pecos but loved visiting the two Baptist Churches, Episcopalian, Lutheran, and Methodist Churches. Now, after marrying a Catholic, I have converted to Catholicism and the main difference in Catholicism and other churches I have belonged to is the tolerance and love that Catholics share. Catholics are often blamed for everything that occurred in the church from the first pope. Any time you have man/woman involved in religion, you have corruption and deceit. I have found great faith in people of all religions including Judaism, Buddhists, Christian, Naturalists and can embrace all. Faith is the belief in something not seen. Let us all have faith and worship in our own ways and respect each other. It is total BIGOTRY and ignorance to lash out at one person who belongs to a religion to condemn millions.

As Chuck Swindoll says the great part about being a Christian is that we can start over everyday knowing that if we repent, we are forgiven for our sins. Otherwise, we are all condemned. So let's not blame and condemn but show love and forgiveness for our fellow man/woman. Remember the horrible prejudices that many of us were guilty of in our past history. Please do not let those prejudices ever rule again. We are all children of God.

Each of them (and others from the classes of 1967-71 at least!) visited the principal's office because of a scare related to Linda.

Since leaving Pecos in 1985, my views on the world and human beings in particular have been shaped by my travels, the communities in which I have lived, and the remarkable diversity of people I have had the privilege of knowing. I would remind you that bigotry can be found within any social, economic, religious, and ethnic group, and that it is much easier to invent and accept you own kind of bigotry than it is to exorcise your personal demons.  I believe that to be true to our nature is to be compassionate and altruistic; and that anything we do to suppress that results in personal pain. When many individuals who share the same pain find each other, they have a choice:  they can assist each other with finding forgiveness, or they can remain bitter and fuel their anger.  In that case, the end result is organized groups of hatemongers, who at some level understand that their very existence is in direct conflict with their true natures, and so must keep their identities secret and operate under the cover of darkness. How often do you see a member of the Klan without the familiar hood?  I beg you – cling to the things we have in common, and strive toward understanding and tolerance.  Please forgive me for waxing philosophical on a website meant for much more pleasant intercourse.  On a lighter note….20-year reunion?   Class of ’85…anyone?

Ms. Burkhalter's on-line slap in the face to the Catholic community seems to show her ignorance as well as her bigotry. I for one believe that stealing is wrong. I also believe that bigotry is wrong as well.I can only assume how Ms. Burkhalter came to the conclusion that the author of the article, "Remember when", was Catholic. To tell the truth I have no idea if the author is Catholic or not. Don't really care to tell you the truth. Ms. Burkhalter said that "Pecos and parents need to teach their children that it is WRONG to steal or tear up things that do not belong to them, whether or not you are ever caught." Well, I hope that parents and Ms. Burkhalter are also teaching their children that bigotry is WRONG and not to tear up other religions, whether or not you think you can get away with it. I pray that you are not one to believe that your religion is the only "true" religion and that you are aware that a slap in the face to the Catholic Community or any other religion is a sign of weakness in your own faith.

Just wanted to let everyone know that My family owned the building and everything in it that she's talking about breaking into for "iron-on decals"!!! We didn't appreciate having all our stuff torn up and stolen, at all!!! At least now we know who did it, one of them anyway. What does this tell you about Pecos, that people break into places that don't belong to them and have the audacity to brag about it online for all to see!!!? Pecos and parents need to teach their children that it is WRONG to steal or tear up things that do not belong to them, whether or not you are ever caught. On the other hand, I understand that if you are Catholic, you can do what you want to as long as you go to confession and tell the priest what you did and say a few hail marys or whatever. Glad to know that we are allowed to do anything we want, immorally, illegally, or anything else as long as you tell the priest. Very, Sincerely, Kim Burkhalter

Hi all you reminiscing Pecosonians!Ü Let’s play “Remember When” … Remember when we snuck into the old T-Shirt shop that’s boarded up downtown and “borrowed”Ü the iron on decals for some retro shirts we wanted before the high school talent show?Ü Does “sexual chocolate” mean anything to you?Ü Remember when we got lost on the way home from a football game and a certain cheerleader kept saying “ I think we’re out of the mountains, I think we’re out of the mountains!”Ü Remember when a bird hit the windshield that night and our driver was crying cause she was a vegetarian?Ü Remember when she was upset that we were laughing and then all of a sudden we saw a Highway Patrol car with a spotlight looking for someone in the middle of nowhere?Ü Remember the phrase “Go Potato”?Ü Remember when that huge SENIORS 98 banner/sheet was hung from the water tower?Ü Everyone involved in these “incidents” will know and are probably sitting at work or something grinning or quietly laughing.Ü If you have anymore “Remember When…” stories I’d like to check back and read some funny stores that may have slipped my mind.Ü If anyone from the Class of ’98 has any updates on anyone email me at EGMUSTANG6@YAHOO.COM OR ERICAGRANADO6@YAHOO.COM Ü(I check the first one more frequently).Ü You guys take care and God Bless.Ü Just because we don’t have a major reunion coming up doesn’t mean we can’t keep in touch. I don't have all the details but I understand that arrangements are being made at Pipen Funeral Home in Midland, TX. I know that he had been struggling with a back injury and his mother told me he had been in the hospital these past few days. I lost touch with him over the last 10 years or so. I know that the family must be grieving and have a heavy burden right now. Take a moment and say a prayer for Trey. Take Care J. Miramontes

Is anyone out there from the class of 1960?  It has been a long time and a lot of us now have grandchildren and those occasional 'senior moments'!  It would be great to hear from someone, even those that were there before and after that time.  I remember playing volleyball with some of the people that have visited this website.  Hard to believe, but I haven't been back to Pecos in at least 25 years!  If anyone sees or knows Louise and Royce Cassell, tell them Carolyn (Buchanan) said, "Hello".  Carolyn Hous

I was sorting old pictures last night... Does anyone have any clue where Tim Kilgore is....or Homer Rios....They were in my pictures taken at a Band Swimming Party in 1978.  Mr. Roundtree is in the picture......wow....time flies.

I also found pictures taken during a couple of high school band trips..so whatever happened to Roy Flores....? He and Myra Garcia are in several shots as well as Francis (can't remember last name)...oh...and I have a picture of the gentleman who is now Father Paul, playing volleyball.  Those were the days!!!

Blessings to you all.  Ana Maria Miramontes-Roquemore

Just thought I would post a note since our 25th reunion is coming up. I read this from time to time, but haven't seen too many messages from the class of 1980. Anyone out there?? I'd love to catch up and hear from any of you. My family has settled in Salt Lake and Moab Utah. (all 9 of us, our families, and my mom). I've been thinking a lot about our high school days and just wonder how much everyone has changed?

I was wondering if I can post a query. I'm looking for someone that would be willing to take pictures at Fairview Cemetery. I am doing genealogy research on my family tree and I'm researching the Joseph Seay family and Louella (Phillips) Seay family. I am interested in the Ben F. Phillips and Elizabeth J. Phillips ones especially. They are buried on the Seay family plot. Thanks, Joni Burke Huntington Beach, CABeach, CA

Since we are world class procrastinators, I wanted to throw out the idea of a 20 year reunion a few years early. I hope something would develop by the time 2008 rolls around. Anyone interested? Although I'm several hundred miles away, I'd be interested in helping. Chow, Wendy (Sullivan) Pingleton

A group of us in the class of 1942-43 are trying to raise monet for a memorial to Wesley C May affectionately known as Prof. He was the band director from 1935 to 1941. We are going to buy tiles in the Pecos museum and hope to hang a picture there also. I have contacted all of the band members that I have email addresses or phone numbers for. That is pretty much limited to classes of 1942 and 43. I have some prior to that time but not many, I would like to have the class secretaries  send me a list of their class members and I will call or email them. If you would like to give to the memorial, send your money to: Nita Zellars at Juanita Wilkins Zellars at 1416 Westbrook, Odessa, TX, 79761 Send your class lists to Jim Slack at Jim Slack, 1003 lake Drive, Weatherford, TX, 76085 phone no. 817 613 1621 Email is slikslak@aol.com We are also looking for a picture of the Prof that  is suitable for blowing up and framing. In the event you have one please send it to me and I will scan it and return your picture . Jim Slack

I happened across this site early this morning and spent about 4 hours reading many of the messages.  As it has for many others, it brought back a flood of memories of the years that I lived in Pecos.  It also made me wonder about people that I have not seen for over 40 years, but have never forgotten.  Johnny Phelps Class of '62

For any people who were students or friends of Bill Carrico, the old band director in Pecos, I wanted you to be informed that he passed on Thursday February 24th at around 4 PM from terminal cancer. I am just glad that I finally got to meet him last semester after my flute choir concert was over. I talked to him and he remembered my mom and dad, Cindy and Fernando Orona, and I told him that I was a recipient of his award my senior year in high school. His daugther in law, Mrs. Kathleen Carrico, is my flute instructor at Angelo State University and that is how I knew about when he passed. I dont know funeral arrangements yet, but if i do get ahold of that information I will put it on Pecos Gab. Please keep his family in your prayers. Jessica Orona Class of '02

I just heard that Mr. Carrico passed away February 24, 2005. He was such a huge influence in my life and the lives of many, many Pecos students. He never lost patience with us when we played our instruments off key or as I squeaked my clarinet. He never cared which students were rich or poor. He just loved us and saw our potential. His love lives on in so many of us. He will be terribly missed. He never forgot his students and even sent me several emails over the years. We were all blessed to have known him and to be influenced by his wisdom and love. Remember all those bus trips! Goodbye, Mr. Carrico. Joy Brown Ray Class of 1966

Dear Friends, We would like to thank each and every person who took the time to e-mail our dad, wish him well and reminisce with him. Late yesterday afternoon Wilfred Thomas (Bill) Carrico passed on to the glory of Heaven and into the waiting arms of his Christ Jesus and beloved wife Reba. He received more than 100 e-mails from former students. His memory was remarkable to the end. He remembered each and every person who wrote him; remembering details about the instruments they played, part they sang and more. He relived the stories you told and many more that he remembered about you. You reminded him of the many lives he touched and that his impact on this world lives on. You will never know the joy and fulfillment you brought to him through your gift. We will celebrate his life with a Mass at Holy Angels Church in San Angelo on Wednesday, March 2 at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 4 p.m. in Vance, Texas. There he will be laid to rest beside our Mother near the peaceful headwaters of the Nueces River. We know that most of you will not be able to attend. We are comforted by the knowledge that you will be here with us in spirit and for that we are truly grateful. There is nothing we can say or do that can fully express our gratitude for your gift. Several years ago former students started a scholarship in his name. As a small token of our appreciation, please know that we, his children, are making a donation to the Bill Carrico Scholarship Fund in your name, ÒFriends of Bill CarricoÓ. Sincerely, Craig, Brett and Lance Carrico, and Mary Lisa Carrico Boose

This is a short note to let everyone know that?Bill Carrico was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Having taught at various Pecos schools from the late '40s through the early '80s he had many thousands of students. He has an amazing memory for his students. When we go out they often come up to him and say hi. He always remembers them, what they played, who their family was, etc. The other day he was approached by the children of two former students. Both of them were college students and recipients of his scholarship. Anyway, I thought that it would be a special blessing if he were reminded of some of the lives that he has touched over the years. If you are a former student of his and wish to send a word of encouragement, thanks or just let him know whatever happened to you I encourage you to email him at wcarrico@cox.net . He should be going home from the hospital in a day or two. Thanks, Lance Carrico, Class of '79

I would just like to say a Great Big Hello to all my friends from PHS during the 60's and the graduates from the class of 1970. I have very good memories of my cherished friendships. Pecos has always been blessed with great musicians. During those years I played guitar for Cecil and his Teenagers, Mondie Esparza and the Mystics, Earnest Marquez and the Challenger Band, and the infamous MARO. Pecos has given much of it's talent, for better or worse, it is well remembered within the professional world of entertainment. During the 70's I performed at the park with MARO†and my brother Pilo Mendoza on bass guitar. I would like to know if anyone out there has a good recording of our music on Concierto Pesado # 1, 2, and 3.† It sure was great playing and jamming for my hometown of PECOSTEXAS USA I still jam on the guitar and live in Ft. Stockton, Texas, with my wife Connie and my 14 year old son, Marco GOD BLESS YOU ALL
