In the late 40's until the mid 50's my family, Lucyle and Pat Watts lived in Pecos, actually on the Balmorea Highway. My grandparents, Frankie and Hubert Watts also lived there. I am searching for a receipe my grandmother Frankie made. Hopefully, someone in the Pecos area still makes or remembers lemon bisque. I would dearly love to have the receipe. Please send or call.

The last I ever heard of her was when she was married to a man named Mickey McClure, and they lived in Brownfield. Dear Editor, Last week, while we were visiting my family in Pecos, my husband became ill. Feeling a lot of pain, being up all night and not knowing what was wrong, we decided to go to the emergency room and I want to share this experience with you. When they took my husband back into the examination room, he received wonderful care. The emergency room nurses, EMT technician, and Dr. Jiffie were all great. My husband received excellent care from everyone he came in contact with. We are back home and he is feeling better. Thanks to all the employees at the Reeves County Hospital for making it a good place to receive medical care and to Pecos for keeping the hospital open. Celina Acosta-Taylor Jeffersonville, Indiana

From: "herschel poteet" poteet@digitalpassage.com

Hi, my name is Karen Roberts Poteet. I didn't get to graduate from Pecos, had to move to Carlsbad the middle of my senior year; but Pecos is and has always been my school, as I went there from 6th grade on. I married Jimmy Don Poteet's cousin, Herschel in April of 59, so we've been married for 42 years now. We are the proud parents of 4 children, l boy, 3 girls, Wade, Shayla, Marilyn, and Deborah, and 8 wonderful grandchildren, 5 boys, and 3 girls, and are expecting our ninth grandchild, a boy, in November. They are Taylor, Sheridan, Craig, Ciara, John, Hannah, Alex, and Alicia. They range in ages l8 months to l8 years. We got a late start, didn't have our first child till we had been married for 7 years. We spent 20 years in the U.S. Army, and thought we might get to retire; but now my husband works for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. We live outside a small town called Bryson, which is about 70 miles west of Ft. Worth, and 60 miles south of Wichita Falls. We have a small farm, 52 acres, where we raised our children, and our grandchildren think the country is the place to come visit. Eddie Roberts is my older brother, and Paula I consider a sister. Her brother Robert Morris is the one that introduced me to the site, and I am really enjoying it. He used to live l5 miles from us in the town of Graham; but now he and his wife live in Arlington. There are so many on the site I considered my friends, Of course, JoAnn Pouns; but I had to look up Ray Boulter in my annual to remember what he looked like. Helen Gavit, Reita and Roy Prewitt, Parka Bryant, Jo Evelyn Phelps, ( I was crushed to hear of her death many years ago), and there are just so many more, I can't name them all. Ann Powell, Mary Ruth Williams,Frances Powell, etc. etc. I dated Joe Ater awhile, and was saddened by his passing. My husband and I were in Germany at the time. Two of our children were born in Germany, the two youngest girls. My dad worked in the butcher shop at Hagar's grocery store on the week-ends, so did my husband's dad. They have both gone to be with the Lord, as well as our mothers. I was saddened to hear of Kathryn Hagar's passing. I knew Donna and the family well and loved them all. I went to our 20th high school reunion in Pecos, and really enjoyed it. My husband couldn't go, so I took my oldest daughter, Shaya with me. We were guests of Helen Gavit's and had a great time. Didn't get to make the 30th; but thought about everyone that week'end. May the Lord bless all of you, and would love to hear from any of you any time. "Rabbit" McPeak, do you remember me? lol My E-mail adress is poteet@digitalpassage.com. Hope to hear from you, Love to all, your friend in Christ, Karen Roberts Poteet

For anyone who might remember me, I am Marquita (Bowers) Wanslow. I lived in Pecos from 1939 until 1971. I graduated from Pecos High School in 1957. I have many great memories of Pecos when I was growing up. Swimming at Boulder Courts, going to the Robinson's fireworks, the Spudnut Shop, Bozeman's Drug Store, Al's, Sanderson's Drug Store and so many more that I won't bore you with the details. We lived on the Northside of town on Pecan Street until I was a freshman in High School, when we moved into our new home on Eddy Street. My father and Martin Kelly, built our homes side by side. We had a great swimming pool, roping arena, and pasture for our horses. In 1955, or thereabouts, I was Sheriff Posse Sweetheart for Reeves County and participated in many rodeos throughout the area representing our County. The Pecos Rodeo was a very important part of my life. My Dad was the Sheriff Posse Captain for many years. I had three brothers, Charles Bowers who still lives in the area, David Bowers, who lives in San Antonio, and Truman Bowers who is deceased. Both of my parents, Frosty and Nellie Bowers are both deceased and buried in Balmorhea. I now live in Round Rock, Texas, near Austin, Texas. My husband Jerry and I have lived here since moving in 1983. Our two children soon followed and still live in this area. We have four gorgeous grandchildren. Our Daughter D'Andra had two children, Beverly Anne, and Ross Lewis. Our Son Barry, has twin daughters Shelby and Kaylee. We are needless to say very proud of our family. I would love to hear from anyone who might remember me or anyone in my family. Marquita Bowers Wanslow

My sister, Peggy Reed, told me about this site and looking through it, it is great! My name is Mike Kelsey and I was born in Pecos in '54 and lived there until '66. Some of my fondest memories are of playing in Marcus Dingler's irrigation ditches to beat the summer heat, Mrs. Shannon's 2nd grade class and a whole lot of great kids that I would like to hear from. People like Bobby Knox, The Faulkner boys (Wendell, Bruce, Carroll, Doug), Caprice Shelton, The Segulia boys (my next door neighbors on Adams Street), the Passmore's, the Hess's, and Lisa Peyton (sp?). They would have all been class of '72 or '73. I live in Union Grove, AL, a small community atop a mountain in north Alabama and am already a Grandfather (twice over). But I am proud as hell of my Pecos heritage and each of my kids has been there. If anybody out there remembers me, please drop me a note.

This is my new e-mail address: yellorose5142@yahoo.com. I was wondering who all was on the activity committee. I'd like to make some suggestions for entertainment. There's a gentleman by the name of Don Walser that lives in Lamesa. I want to request that we look into having him and his band perform at one of our functions during the reunion. Maybe a dinner or at the barbeque, or the Posse Barn Dance. Everywhere I've gone to see this guy play, he keeps the dance floor full. He's great! I think yall'd really like him. Also, yall let me know if I can be of help out on my end. I am looking forward to the reunion. I've been in contact with Sherry Berry and Larry Chappell. They're down in San Angelo. I'm sure there's a lot more of us living here in the DFW area. My dad tells me this all the time, like I'm supposed to just bump into them in this big city. But, I haven't seen anyone yet. Anyway, just thought I'd try to be of help. Let me know.
