Eugenio Arenivaz, 61, of Barstow, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Frances Bustamante

Frances Ulate Bustamante, 66, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 31, at Martinez Funeral Home with Elder Clint DeBorde officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m., at Ector County Cemetery (Rosehill Section) in Odessa.

She was born March 9, 1937, in Van Horn.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorena Bustamante of Odessa, Susie Armendariz Guerra of Fort Worth; two sisters, Cecilia Moreno of San Jacinto, Calif., Pabla U. Garcia of Pecos; two granddaughters and two grandsons.

Benjamin Chavez

Benjamin O. Chavez, 58, of Pecos, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Pecos.

Church services were held at 2 p.m., today, at the Church of Christ, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born July 25, 1944, in Barstow, was a chef, a lifetime Pecos resident and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Benny Chavez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Irma Martinez and Becky Chavez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Gabriel Chavez of Lubbock; seven sisters, Tacha Mendoza, Socorro Mesa, Lidia Peres, Bertha Garvicio and Mary Varela of Pecos, Paula Chavez of Odessa, Isabel Garcia of Lubbock and three grandchildren, Rachel Sandoval, Steven Joseph Martinez, Jr and Renee Martinez.

Alicia Lazcano

Alicia "Nena" Camacho Lazcano, 80, of Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Ojinaga.

Mass was held at 12 p.m., today, March 27, at Parroquia De Nuestro Padre Jesus de Nazareno. Graveside services will follow at Panteon Canada Ancha el Ultimo Adios.

She was born June 15, 1922, in Kanada Ancha, Mexico, was a Catholic member of Paroquia De Nuestro Padre Jesus De Nazareno in Ojinaga and a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, E.C. Lazcano of Pecos, Jose Lazcano of Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico; two daughters, Elizabeth L. Lujan of Pecos, Leticia L. Marquez of Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico; three sisters, Maria Olivares and Evangelina Olivares of Ojinaga, Chih., Mexico, Elva Granado of McCamey; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Ismael Valdez

Ismael Valdez, 59, of Fort Worth, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, following a long illness.

Mass was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. James Plagens officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

He was born April 8, 1943, in Big Spring, was a lifetime resident of Big Spring until moving to Ft. Worth in 1983, had been a barber and a barber instructor and a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ismael Valdez, Sr. and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Benina Valdez of Fort Worth; three step-sons, Jose, Albert and Abraham Rodriguez of Forney; one step-daughter, Devon Jones of Balch Springs; one adopted son, Augustin Paredez of Big Spring; his mother, Lupe Fierro of Big Spring; one brother, Frank Fierro, Jr. of Big Spring; three sisters, Sylvia Orno of Irving, Sandy Fierro of Kermit and Naomi Valdez of Los Angeles, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Revere Proctor

Revere D. "R.D." Proctor, 84, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Burford Manor Nursing Home in Davis, Okla.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 23, with Rev. J.E. "Mac" McCormick officiating.

He was born April 13, 1918, in Rygate, Montana, was an Army veteran of World War II and a drilling superintendent in the oil and gas industry.

Survivors include two sons, David L. Proctor of Davis, Okla., Steven Sandefur of Odessa; three daughters, Marcia McCormick of Pecos, Rebecca Hopson of Robert Lee, Veronica Dennis of Carlsbad, N.M.; one brother, Waldo L. Proctor of Casper, Wyo.;10 grandchildren and five great-granchildren.

Ofelia Alba

Ofelia Fernandes Alba, of Pecos, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, in Pecos.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 23, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born March 21, 1927, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, was a homemaker, a longtime Pecos resident and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Alba was preceded in death by a sister, Blanca Rosa Hernandez and her parents, Leandro C. Alba and Consuelo F. Alba.

Survivors include one brother, Daniel Alba of Las Vegas, N.M.; three sisters, Hortencia A. De La Garza of Pecos, Esther A. De La Cruz and Rinda F. Alba of Oren, Utah; several nieces and nephews.

Dora Fonville

Dora "Tene" Fonville, 88, of Pecos, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, in Denton.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Randy Foster.

She was born July 8, 1914, in Abilene, was a retired jewelry store owner and a Presbyterian.

Survivors include one son, John Charles Fonville of Denton; one daughter, Jo Cooksey of Pecos; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ronald Keith Leigh Jr., 21, of Pecos, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Pecos.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at Chaparral Village.

He was born Aug. 27, 1981, in Pecos, was a laborer, a longtime Pecos resident and a Baptist.

Survivors include his parents, Ronald Sr. and Sharon Leigh of Pecos; his step-father, Steve W. Grayson of Pecos; his grandmother, Eva Leigh of Pecos; three brothers, Mark Castleberry of Ft. Worth, James Leigh of Pecos, Steve B. Grayson of Pecos and one sister, Angela Leigh of Pecos.

Socorro "Chata" Rodriguez, 69, of Pecos, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, in Pecos.

Mass is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born June 12, 1933, in Pecos, was a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Larry and Ruben "Pepe" Rodriguez of Odessa, Raul Rodriguez of Lubbock; three daughters, Delia and Delma Rodriguez of Odessa, Lisa Rodriguez of Bend, Washington; one brother, Luis Ortiz of Pecos; one sister, Cruz Ortiz Bitolas of Pecos; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Alma Heard, 86, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Midland.

A memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m., today at the Manor Park Chapel.

She was born March 23, 1916, in Seminole.

Manuel Villanueva

Manuel J. Villanueva, 78, of Pecos, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, March 21, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

He was born May 11, 1924, in San Jose, Tx., was retired from Pecos Valley Southern Railroad and was a Catholic.

Villanueva was preceded in death by his wife and one son.

Survivors include three sons, Joel Villanueva and Israel "Roddy" Villanueva of Pecos, David Villanueva of Odessa; two daughters, Rosemary Chabarria and Anita Prieto of Pecos; one sister, Maria Soto of Pecos; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Eliborio Pena

Eliborio "Al" Pena, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Bridges of Midland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

He was a longtime Pecos resident.

Pena was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Doporto Pena and one son, Armando "Mando" Pena.

Survivors include one son, Roy and his wife, Mary Pena of Pecos; nine daughters, Hope and Luis Tobar of Ft. Stockton, Ercilia and Ben Rodriguez of Midland, Albesa and Abel Lozano of Pecos, Elvira "Vera" and Harvey Henderson of Midland, Alicia and Abe Gonzales of Ft. Stockton, Elena, Louisa, Janie and Becky Pena of Midland; 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the grandchildren: James Rodriguez, Jack Rodriguez, Gabriel Pena, Eric Tobar, Anthony Lozano, J.R. Gonzales, Michael Pena, Libby Pena, Tino Pena and Jonathan Heredia.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Allison Cancer Center or St. Stevens Catholic Church building fund or a charity of their choice.

Trinidad Vasquez

Trinidad "Trine" Vasquez, 79, of Pecos, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, in Pecos.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Ben Flores officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born March 25, 1923, in Ojinaga, Mexico, was a housewife, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Vasquez was preceded in death by one brother, Cruz Sanchez and one sister, Benita Sanchez Gonzalez.

Survivors include her husband, Alonzo Vasquez of Pecos; two sons, Francisco Javier Sanchez of Dennison, Alfonso Vasquez of Pecos; one daughter, Elena Vasquez of Pecos; three brothers, Alfredo, Epigmenio and Armando Sanchez, all of Ojinaga, Mexico; three sisters, Lidia Sanchez Pando of Ojinaga, Mexico, Amalia Sanchez Jasso of Loving, N.M., Maria Jesus Sanchez of El Paso and seven grandchildren.Peaceful Garden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Rodriguez

Lydia Lara Rodriguez, 52, of Pecos, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Miguel Angel Sanchez officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born June 1, 1950, in Pecos, was a homemaker, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Rodriguez was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Lara.

Survivors include two sons, Eli M. Lara of Davis, Calif., Tori C. Rodriguez III of Pecos; two daughters, Kristi Ann Rodriguez and Angela Lara of Pecos; three brothers, Alex and Santiago Castillo Jr. of Lemoore, Calif., Juan Castillo of Tulare, Calif.; five sisters, Fidencia Lopez of Pecos, Monce Castillo, Ramona Castillo of Hanford, Calif., Linda Castillo of Tulare, Calif., Celia Lopez of Corcoran, Calif. and three grandchildren.

Vangie Cree Smetak, 78, of Pecos, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at the Fort Stockton Nursing Center.

She was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Breckenridge, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Ynes Dominguez

Ynes Dominguez, 92, of Kermit, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Kermit Health Care Center.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, March 7, at Family Services Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, March 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Kermit Cemetery.

He was born in Redford was a retired construction worker and a Catholic.

Survivors include three daughters, Francisca Armendarez of Kermit, Eloisa Dominguez of Dixon, Calif. Raquel Lopes of Kermit; two sons, Ricardo Dominguez of Pecos, Eduardo Dominguez of Kermit; one brother, Elojio Dominguez of Artesia, N.M.; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Linwood Mote

Linwood Jady Mote, 62, of North Carolina, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003.

He was born Aug. 13, 1940 and was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four daughters, Judy Elliott of Odessa, April Valenzuela of Pecos, Lisa Carter of Wallace, N.C., Sheila Small of Leland, N.C.; two brothers, Willie and Ray Mote; three sisters, Sula Taylor, Katie Bradford, Louvania Charles and 12 grandchildren.

Byron Smith

Byron Smith, 77, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Hillsboro Providence Medical Center.

He was born July 10, 1925, in Uvalde, worked on the Jap Foster Ranch at Van Horn and also lived in Toyah. He operated cattle feedlots in Nebraska, Hereford and in 1969 became the general manager of Neuhoff Feedlot in Hillsboro, in 1972 he founded the Wagon Rod Ranch at Milford, raising Beefmaster and Limousine cattle. He was on the board of directors of Hill-Co Electric Co-Op from 1982-2002.

A memorial was held Wednesday, March 5, at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Hillsboro, with Rev. Denise Blakely of Pilgrims Rest U.M.C. of Milford officiating. Burial services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 7, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine, with Chaplin Wallace Bennett officiating.

Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Smith in 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Rusty Smith of Hillsboro, Walter Smith of Washington, D.C. and one daughter, Margaret Harp of Hillsboro.

Steve Lerma

Steve G. Lerma, 49, of Odessa, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at Hospice House.

Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., today, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Barstow with Father Ben Flores and Father Miguel Sanchez officiating. Burial will be in Barstow Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 10, 1953, to Epimenio and Manuela Lerma. He attended public school in Barstow and graduated from Pecos High School and was a 23 year resident of Odessa.

Survivors include his wife, Nicolasa "Nicki" Lerma of Odessa; one daughter, Marisol Geneva Lerma of Odessa; one step-daughter, Norma Minjarez of Odessa; one step-son, Robert Aguirre of Odessa; three brothers, Hector Lerma of Odessa, Henry Lerma of Barstow, Lucio Lerma of Monahans; two sisters, Lily Delbosque of Odessa, Lucy Lerma of San Pedro, Calif. and three step-grandchildren.
