Juana Bejaran

Juana Bejaran, 85, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital.

Services were held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Saragosa Cemetery.

She was born June 24, 1918, in Moncio Via Herrera, Chih., Mexico, was a homemaker and a Seven Day Adventist.

Survivors include three sons, Benny Bejaran of Bridgeport, Geno Bejaran of Pecos, Mete Bejaran of Balmorhea; six daughters, Josie Madrid of Odessa, Amalia Bejaran of Pecos, Belia Rodriguez of Saragosa, Paula Alvedriez and Lidia Alvedriez of Seminole, Simona Rocha of Carlsbad, N.M. and 16 grandchildren.

Pecos Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine Carpenter

Catherine Carpenter, 54, of Big Spring, formerly of Pecos, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at her home, following a 24 year battle with diabetes.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at Mt. Olive Memorial Park, with Rev. Matthew Miles and Rev. Flynn Long, officiating.

She was born Sept. 18, 1949 in Sinton, Texas, moved to Pecos when she was one year old, graduated from Pecos High School with numerous honors including Salutatorian, Best All Around and Band Sweetheart, received a B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Texas and an M. A. from Queen Mary's College, University of London. She worked in the British Isles for 22 years in London and Wales, was on the staff of Private Eye magazines, edited books for Picadilly Press, and numerous other publishing houses, wrote an English Garden Dictionary and a Guide to London, taught extension classes for the University of Maryland in Wales, returning to the states in 1991, she worked for Meteor Publications in Philadelphia, Romance Writers Publishers in Houston and Presbyterian Publications in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a member of National Press Women and the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her mother: Marj Carpenter of Big Spring; one sister, Carolyn Stewart of Winnsboro, Texas; one brother, Jim Bob Carpenter of Sarasota, Florida; two nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1965.

The family suggests memorials for the Music Fund of First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 2222, Big Spring, Texas, 79721 or overseas missionaries in World Ministry Division, 100 Witherspoon, Louisville, Kentucky, 40202

Claude Parsons

Claude Lee "Shorty" Parsons, 62, of Burnet, formerly of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004.

There will be no formal service for Shorty.

He was born June 23, 1941, in Pecos, worked in the oil fields, did mechanical and welding work. In Pecos, he helped clean up and salvage the old burned down Gibson's Building and the Brandon Hotel.

Parsons was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marilea Bowles Parsons and one sister, Jeanne Carol.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Ann Robles of Burnet, Linda Johnson of Waxahachie, Carole Key of San Angelo; one brother, William "Bill" Parsons of Midland; two sisters, Marilyn Johnson of Pecos, Mary Jane Mahaffey of Katy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in his memory my be made to your local hospice or to the charity of your choice.

Rebecca Ortiz

Rebecca "Becky" Ortiz, 50, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in Pecos.

Church service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the First Baptist Church, 8th and Sycamore. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born March 3, 1953, in Pecos, was housewife, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Jose Angel Vasquez of Pecos; four sons, Felix Ornelas, Jr., Stevie Ornelas, Jesse Ornelas and Paul Diaz of Pecos; two daughters, Grace Ortega and Gina Ortiz Galindo of Pecos; two brothers, Gilbert Ortiz of Coleman, Manuel Ortiz of Pecos; three sisters, Rachel Natividad of Pecos, Linda Garcia of Toyah, Sylvia Ortiz of California and nine grandchildren.

Casimiro Banuelos

Casimiro P. Banuelos, 80, of El Paso, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, in El Paso.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., today at Hillcrest Chapel in El Paso.

A mass is scheduled for 12:45 p.m., Thursday, at St. Pius X Catholic Church with burial in Ft. Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso.

Survivors include his wife, Olivia S. Banuelos; one son, Humberto Ceballos; two daughters, Elsa Medina and Zoila Tellez; two brothers, Israel Banuelos and Santiago Banuelos.

Christine Rutledge

Christine Rutledge, 76, of The Woodlands, formerly of Lampasas and Balmorhea, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, in a Houston hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at Briggs-Gamel Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rock Church Cemetery near Rumley.

She was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Alpine, to Francisco and Paula Cano Silvas, was a homemaker, retired from nursing with Girling Home Health in Marble Falls, was a Baptists attended the Sawdust Road Baptist Church in Spring.

Rutledge was preceded in death by one brother, Celedonio Cano and one granddaughter, Regina Tucker Perryman.

She was married to Howard Rutledge and he died Jan. 13, 2004.

Survivors include four sons, Carl Owen Rutledge of The Woodlands, Israel Ortega of Odessa, Andy Ortega of The Woodland, Ephriam Ortega of Huntsville; three daughters, Creedina Silvas of Temple, Birdie Nino of Odessa, Naomi Ortega of Fredricksburg; two step-sons, Howard Glenn Rutledge, Jr. of Lampasas, Victor Ray Rutledge of Nashville, TN; one step-daughter, Anita Rutledge Moody of Pecos; three brothers, Alfredo Silvas and Placido Cano, Jr. of Odessa, David Silvas of San Angelo; five sisters, Lucia Nunez of Andrews, Ofelia Martinez of Odessa, Modesta Magallanez of El Paso, Maria Cano of Temple, Lydia Oyerbides of Monahans; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Howard Rutledge

Howard Rutledge, 80, of The Woodlands, formerly of Lampasas and Balmorhea, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at his residence.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at Briggs-Gamel Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rock Church Cemetery near Rumley.

He was born Nov. 4, 1923, in San Angelo, to Theodore Cullen and Addie Marlar Rutledge, after serving his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he received his Master's Degree from A&I University in Kingsville, which is now A&M University, was a retired educator and principal, was an Ordained Baptist Minister, a minister at the Baptist Church in Moline, for several years, attended School Creek Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church, while in Lampasas and the Sawdust Road Baptist Church in Spring.

Rutledge was married to Christine Silvas Ortega and she died Jan. 12, 2004. He was preceded in death by one son, John Edward Rutledge and one granddaughter, Regina Tucker Perryman.

Survivors include three sons, Howard Glenn Rutledge, Jr. of Lampasas, Victor Ray Rutledge of Nashville, Tenn., Carl Owen Rutledge of The Woodlands; one daughter, Anita Rutledge Moody of Pecos; three step-sons, Israel Ortega of Odessa, Andy Ortega of The Woodlands, Ephriam Ortega of Huntsville; three step-daughters, Creedina Silvas of Temple, Birdie Nino of Odessa, Naomi Ortega of Fredricksburg; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Felipe Ornelas, Jr.

Felipe Ornelas Jr., 20, died on Jan. 9 in Midland. Ornelas was born on June 26, 1983 in Dalhart, and was employed in Midland as a concrete construction worker and was a devout Catholic.

Services will be held at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, on Jan. 13 at 2:00 p.m. Father Gustavo Lopez will be officiating, with burial following at the Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Jan 12. at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Ornelas and his son, Isaac Ornelas both of Midland; his mother, Silvia Aguilar of Pecos; brothers: Daniel Aguilar of Pecos and Candelario Ornelas of Presidio; Sisters: Brenda Ornelas and Jamie Ornelas both of Presidio; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Ruben Guebara Pando, Jr.

Ruben Guebara Pando Jr., 28, died on Jan. 9 in Midland. Pando was born on Feb. 5, 1975 in Pecos, and was a long time resident of Monahans, where he worked on a seismograph crew, and was a devout Catholic.

Services are to be held on Jan. 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating, and burial following at the Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary was held on Jan. 11 at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.

Pando is survived by his beloved companion, Tanya Valdez of Monahans; one son, Ruben Pando III of Monahans; his parents, Lelia and Alvaro Alvarez of Monahans and Ruben Pando Sr. of Ojinaga, Mex.; his grandfather Guillermo Guebara of Pecos; his brother Jason Alvarez of Odessa; and his sisters: Heather Guebara and Stacy Underwood both of Gilbert, AZ.

Arturo Sanchez Valeriano

Arturo Sanchez Valeriano, 63, died on Jan. 9 here in Pecos.

Valeriano was born on March 7, 1940 in San Antonio Del Bravo, Chihuahua, Mex., was a lifetime resident of Pecos and was self-employed as a dump truck operator.

Services are to be held on Jan. 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating, and burial following at the Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary was held on Jan. 11 at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home.

Valeriano is preceded in death by his parents Casimiro and Manuela Valeriano; he is survived by his wife, Maria B. Valeriano; his sons: Jose Arturo B. Valeriano of Grand Prairie, Efrain B. Valeriano of Irving, Saul B. Valeriano and Artemio B. Valeriano of Pecos, and Humberto B. Valeriano of Alamogordo, NM; his brothers: Hector Valeriano, Gregorio Valeriano and Pedro Valeriano of Pecos, and Jesus S. Valeriano of Houston; his sisters: Rosa Cordova, Alicia Magana and Guadalupe Michaelis of Pecos and Yolanda Chavarria of Odessa; and 18 grand children.

Eulalia Natividad

Eulalia H. Natividad, 86, of Odessa, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at her residence.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. Trini Fuentes officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Ruidosa, Tx., was a homemaker and a Christian Catholic.

Natividad was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolfo B. Natividad and two sons, Elias and Raul Natividad.

Survivors include four sons, Severo H. Natividad of Mesa, Ariz., Zack H., Salvador H. and Robert H. Natividad of Odessa; six daughters, Ramona Granado of Pecos, Ruperta Barrera, Juana Guzman, Tonia Gonzales, Rachel Nichols, Gloria H. Natividad, all of Odessa; 44 grandchildren; 130 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

Senona Villa

Senona N. Villa, 97, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at the Pecos Nursing Home.

A rosary will be held today at 7:30 p.m., at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 9, at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Pedro Garcia officiating. Burial will be in the Santa Rosa Cemetery.

She was born June 23, 1906, in San Juan, Mexico, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include one son, Augustin Villa of Pecos; one daughter, Antonia Herrera of Pecos; three grandchildren, Olivia Herrera, Elena Herrera, Lupe Herrera, Jr., all of Pecos; and two great-grandchildren.

Eliacer Cordova

Eliacer Cordova, 57, of Pecos, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born July 30, 1946, in San Carlos, Mexico, was a retired warehouse supervisor, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife Rosa Valeriano Cordova of Pecos; three sons, Victor Cordova of Irving, Eliacer Cordova, Jr. of Midlothian, Efren Cordova of Pecos; three daughters, Elizabeth Montoya of Odessa, Norma Cordova of Rowlett, Belia Muela of Nevada, Tx.; five brothers, Hector, Manuel, Jose, Mario and Carlos Cordova, all of Porterville, Calif.; eight sisters, Mercedes, Maribel, Maria Cordova, Alicia Fajardo, Gloria Zepeda, Elisa Raya, all of Porterville, Calif., Susana and Rosa Cordova of Terrebella, Calif. and 20 grandchildren.

Joe Gallego Jr.

Joe Gallego Jr., 78, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Saragosa, with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Saragosa Cemtery.

He was born July 19, 1925, in Alpine and was a Catholic.

Gallego was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Gallego Sr.and Lupe Gallego and his wife, Amparo Molinar Gallego.

Survivors include his friend, Rosalie Dominguez of Balmorhea; three daughters, Nora Briceno of Pecos, Linda Briceno of Saragosa, Alexa Gallego of San Angelo; seven sons, Joe Gallego of Anaheim, Calif., Billy Joe, Fred and Allen Gallego of Pecos, Jimmy Gallego of Saragosa, Tony Gallego of Presidio, Sammy Joe Gallego of San Angelo; one brother, Julian Gallego of Odessa; one sister, Maria Hinojos of Alpine; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Helen Richards

Helen Richards, 79, of Pecos, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the First Christian Church with Ernie Wagner officiating.

She was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Haskell Co. Okla., was a retired secretary and a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, LuAnn Thompson of Fort Stockton; one sister, Edith Terry of Boisie, Idaho; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.
