Jimmy Herod

Jimmy Lee Herod, 76, of Pecos, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, July 5, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Henderson and Rev. Billy Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

He was born April 5, 1926, in Waxahachie, was a World War II Army Veteran, a maintenance supervisor for Security State Bank and a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Herod of Pecos; four sons, Bobby Herod of El Paso, Donald Herod of Austin, Jimmy Herod, Jr. of Waxahachie, James E. Herod of Dallas; two daughters, Joyce White of El Paso, Kathryn Randolph of Austin; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Carol Sebesta

Carol Sullivan Sebesta, died on Friday, June 21, 2002, in London, England.

Memorial services were held in First Presbyterian Church of Ingram.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1937, to the Rev. George and Iola Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul Sullivan.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Sebesta; two sons, Mike and Tim Sebesta of Kerrville and one daughter, Danna Zulfer of Benbrook.

Services for Jimmy Herod, 76, of Pecos who died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Odessa Medical Center Hospital are incomplete.

Altagracia Gochicoa

Altagracia L. Gochicoa, 82, of Pecos, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Pecos Nursing Home.

Mass was held at 2 p.m., today at Santa Rosa Catholic Church.

She was born July 23, 1919, in Pecos, was a lifelong resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include six sons, Jose, Gilbert, Johnny and Willie Gochicoa of Odessa, Jesse and Peter Gochicoa of Pecos; six daughters, Virginia Natividad, Nati Gochicoa, Mary Pena and Carmen Palomino of Pecos, Ramona Galindo of Odessa, Juanita Trevino of Arlington; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Ishmael Paredes

Ishmael Michael Isaiah Paredes, two months, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton.

A rosary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., today at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Barstow with burial in Barstow Cemetery.

He was born April 8, 2002, in Fort Stockton, was a lifelong resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his parents, Natividad Pena of Pecos and Marcus Paredes of Abilene; his grandparents, Rosalinda and Rafael Corralez, Jr. of Pecos, Dale and Cynthia Kocher of Abilene; one half brother, Nathan Paredes of Abilene; one half sister, Natalie Paredes of Abilene; great-grandparents, Matilde Pena and the late Pabla Pena and Rafael and Naty Corrales.

Rachel Ramirez

Rachel Ramirez, 51, of Pecos, died Friday, June 28, 2002, in a traffic fatality on Interstate 20.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Miguel Angel officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 25, 1950, in Pecos, was a provider for Nurses Unlimited and a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Ramirez, Sr. of Pecos; two sons, Alvaro Hinojos and Robert Ramirez, Jr. of Pecos; three daughters, Prissy Lopez, Naomi Matta and Rebecca Gonzales of Pecos; four brothers, Pablo Hinojos, Jesse Hinojos and Tony Hinojos of Pecos, Manuel Hinojos of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters, Kathy Hernandez of Big Spring, Cruz Gomez of Tracy, Calif. and Teresa Herrera of Pecos.

Josephina Rayos

Josephina "Josie" Rayos, 66, of Pecos, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today at 1738 Adams Street.

Mass is scheduled for 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Miguel Angel officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born July 27, 1935, in Alpine, was a homemaker, a Catholic and a member of the Guadalupanas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Rayos, Sr.; one daughter, Gloria Alvarez; one sister, Celia Deanda; one brother, Frank Chavirra and also by a special loved one, Ernest "Bubba" Vargas.

Survivors include one son, Pete Rayos, Jr. of Manor, Tx.; four daughters, Norma Villareal, Mandy Sotelo, Melissa Sotelo of Pecos, Prissy Rodriguez of Hobbs, N.M.; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Melba Whitaker

Melba Whitaker, 83, of Barstow, died on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Hospice House in Odessa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 5 p.m., Saturday, June 29 in the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Daniel and Rev. Darrell Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Barstow Cemetery.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1918 in Electra, Texas and lived in Barstow since 1945. She was a retired P-B-T ISD teacher and a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons Woody Whitaker of Milton, Florida, Larry Whitaker of Houston, and Pat Whitaker of Midland; two daughters Dalene Whitaker of Houston and Audie Lynn Whitaker of Barstow; one brother Shonnan J. Darland of Mineola, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Dr. R.E. Lovett

Dr. R.E. Lovett, M.D., 87, of Olney, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 26, at the First Baptist Church in Olney.

He is preceded in death by one son, Raymond.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Olney; and four sons Dr. Robert Lovett of Fort Worth, Dr. David Lovett of Pecos, Dale Lovett of Olney and Steve Lovett of Arlington.

Eufemia Lara Flores

Eufemia "Faye" Lara Flores, 72, of Pecos, died on Friday, June 21, 2002 at her home.

Mass was held at 11 a.m., today, at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Father Ben Flores and Father Arturo Banuelas officiating. Burial followed at Santa Rosa Cemetery.

A rosary was held at 7:30 p.m., on June 22 and 23 at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born on May 29, 1930 in Pecos and has been a lifelong resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

She was an active member of Santa Rosa Catholic Church, a crusillista and a member of the Guadalupanas.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her time to her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ignacio "Nacho" Flores and one son, Miguel Flores.

Survivors include six sons, Freddy Flores of Pecos, Arturo Flores of Albuqurque, NM, Joe Ray Flores of Pecos, David Flores of Pecos, Ruben Flores of Midland and Michael Flores of Austin; four daughters, Linda Luckie of Orange, Ala., Virginia Natividad of Big Spring, Ida Natividad of Pecos and Irene Navarrette of Pecos; one brother Beto Valencia of San Fernando, Calif.; three sisters, Millie Villalobos of Pecos, Eloisa Sais of Pecos and Carmen Contreras of Brownfield; 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Marianne Ingram

Marianne Ingram, 69, of Toyah, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for 9 a.m., on Tuesday, June 25 in the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Charles McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow in Toyah Cemetery.

She was born on April 9, 1933 in Sweetwater and has lived in Toyah since 1966, was a homemaker and a member of the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband Gary Ingram of Toyah, two sons George James Ingram of Richmond, Va., and Gill Barnett III of Houston; two daughters Nancy Petty of Toyah and Carol Ford of San Angelo; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Joe Bryan

Joe Bryan, 67, of Montrose, Colo., formerly of Pecos, died on Monday, June 17, 2002, at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, Colo.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., today at Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose with Paul Nystrom officiating. Burial followed at Olathe Cemetery.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1934 in Pecos, is a Pecos High School graduate, was in the U.S. Air Force and a retail store owner.

Survivors include his mother Pauline Bryan of Harlingen; his wife Lanette Bryan of Montrose; one son Johnnie Bryan of Montrose; one daughter Liesel Theesfeld of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one brother Bill Bryan of Palos Verdes, Calif.; one aunt Frances Bryan of Pecos; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Biggs

Thomas R. Biggs, 58, of Ruidoso, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., following a brief illness.

A celebration of his life will be held later for his friends and family.

He was born March 7, 1944, in Pecos, served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1967, spent many years working in the oil industry, including 10 years at Arco in Alaska and 10 years at Chevron in Texas, retiring in 2001. Most recently, he was employed at Billy the Kid casino in Ruidoso Downs, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Biggs; one daughter, Susan Wojciechowski; his mother Cleo Janice of Pecos; one sister, Judie Biggs of Ruidoso; one grandson and two granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Lincoln County or to a charity of their choice.

Mary Ann Ingram

Mary Ann Ingram, 69, of Pecos, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Odessa Medical Center.

Clyde Fortune

Clyde Henry Fortune, 91, of Graham, died Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Graham Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Colfax Cemetery in Colfax, Tx.

He was born Aug. 3, 1910, in Colfax, was a retired owner of a car dealership, had moved to Graham three years ago from Van Horn and was a Methodist.

Fortune was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Alumbaugh Fortune; one brother, Claude Fortune; three sisters Ruth McPhial, Mariam Hitt, Faydene Henderson and one grandson, David Lee Benson.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Baker of Des Moines, IA; one son, Phil Fortune of Graham; two sisters, Bernice Baum of Tyler, Eva Jo Kahlich of Frankston, Tx; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Scott House, a home for drug addicted newborns, 33 Whites Road Washington, NJ 07882.

Jose Aldaz

Jose "Joe" Aldaz, 77, of Barstow died Friday, June 14, 2002 in San Antonio.

Aldaz was born in Barstow on October 24, 1924. He was a Catholic and served in the Air Force. He was also a retired city employee.

Survivors include his wife Felicita Avila Aldaz of San Antonio, three sons, Manuel A. Aldaz, Ruben A. Aldaz, and Louie A. Aldaz all of San Antonio, two daughters Elizabeth A. Rodriguez of San Antonio and Mary Adela Aldaz of Houston, one brother Fermin Aldaz of Pecos, three sisters Anita Rivera of Pecos, Irene Salazar and Augustina Navarette of Odessa, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Aldaz is preceded in death by his parents Felipe and Eulalia Aldaz, his brothers Jesus Aldaz, Rufino Aldaz and Ramon Aldaz, sister Maria Reyes and his son Jose Aldaz Jr.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of the Refuge in Barstow.

Burial will be tomorrow, June 18 with a mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Refuge and burial following at the Barstow Cemetery.

Father Ralph Barranger

A rosary will be held for Father Ralph Barranger at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at Christ the Savior Church, 5301 Wadsworth, in El Paso.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, June 13, at 1118 N. Mesa, in El Paso.

Father Barranger was a priest at Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea and Saragosa for many years and then served at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Pecos.

Sigurdur Bjornson

Sigurdur L. "Johnny" Bjornson, 81, of Alaska, died of colon cancer on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home with his wife, daughter and pastor by his side.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, at Muldoon Community Assembly, 7041 Debarr Road, Anchorage, AK 99504.

He was born April 24, 1921, in Mountain ND, was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, stationed in Pecos, and was honorably discharged in February 1946. He owned and operated Bjornson Plumbing Co. in Pecos from 1946 until 1965, and from 1982 until 1991. In Alaska he worked for Central Alaska Utilities and later owned Nesco Mechanical Company.

Survivors include his wife, Corinne Bjornson; one daughter, Lynette Harple; one brother, Dr. Stan Bjornson; one granddaughter and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arts in Worship or Missions Ministries of Muldoon Community Assembly, 7041 Debarr Road, Anchorage, AK 99504.

Maria Olivas

Maria Olivas, 87, of Saragosa, died Friday, June 7, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 9, at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Saragosa.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, June 10, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Saragosa with burial in Saragosa Cemetery.

She was born July 21, 1914, in Barrancos, Chih., Mexico, a lifetime resident, a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors include eight sons, Jesus Olivas of Roswell, N.M., Rosendo Olivas of Presidio, Lazaro Olivas of Dexter, N.M., Francisco, Guillermo and Timoteo Olivas of Fort Stockton, Manuel Olivas of Van Horn, Julian Olivas of Pecos; seven daughters, Juliana Burciaga of Portales, N.M., Antonia Hernandez and Tiodora Contreras of Saragosa, Ramona Mireles of Crane, Esiquia Olivas of Clovis, N.M., Longina Zapata of Morton, Lucia Olivas of Saragosa; one brother, Carlos Rodriguez of Muleshoe; one sister, Juliana Olivas of Artesia, N.M.; 75 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

Lisa Willborn

Lisa Kay Willborn, 34, of Odessa, a food service employee, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at her residence.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Fankhauser officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in El Paso.

Survivors include her son, Jonathon Andrew Juarez of Odessa; mother, Rita Weddle of Pecos; bothers Ricky Oliver of Pecos; Jerry Willborn of San Antonio; Ricky Willborn of Tyler; Ronnie Weddle and Danny Weddle and sisters Shelia Juarez of Pecos, and Angie Williams of San Angelo; Gwen Weddle and Theresa Weddle.
