Edgar Blair

Edgar Leon Blair, 93, of Monahans, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Ward Memorial Hospital in Monahans.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at Heritage Funeral Chapel with John Bell officiating. Burial was in Kermit Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Fort Worth, was a retired mechanic for Exxon, served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon).

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Blair of Monahans; two daughters, Marlene Terry Coleman of Pecos, Venetia Terry Hitch of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Jack Donaghey

Jack Donaghey Sr., 69, of Andrews, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Hospice House in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Emmit Bernard with Home Hospice officiating.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Big Spring. He was born July 7, 1935, in Anson, had lived in Andrews for the past eight years, moving there from Seagraves, was a truck driver and had farmed and ranched for many years.

Survivors include one son, Jack Donaghey Jr. of Andrews; three daughters, Janice Parker, Dela Greenway of Andrews, Karla Barnes of Alamagordo, N.M.; one sister, Betty Nunnelee of Ft. Davis; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marion Keely

Marion “Gene” Keely, 79, of Marble Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals with David Carrington and Jack Whyburn officiating. Burial was in Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Marble Falls.

He was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Rock, Kansas.

Keely was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin Keely and one granddaughter, Jennifer Keely.

Survivors include two sons, Wes Keely of Winfield, Kansas, Tim Keely of Bangs, Tx.; one daughter, Janette Stanton of Marble Falls; one brother, Marvin Keely of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John Borcherding

John Borcherding, 23, of Buda, Tx., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at Pennington Memorial Chapel with Mr. Randy Consford officiating. Burial was in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Tx.

He was born in Waco, on Sept. 7, 1980, to Jerry and Jeanine (Baker) Borcherding. A graduate of Hays High School and later of Texas A&M University, Class of 2003, John was a hard worker and an avid traveler, who traveled widely in France, South Korea and Asia. He will be missed so much by his family and friends, who will always cherish his memory.

His paternal grandparents, Butch and Maxine Borcherding, and his maternal grandmother, Jean Baker preceded him in death.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry Borcherding and Jeanine (Baker) Borcherding of Buda; maternal grandfather, Charles Baker of Bryan; one brother, Jeff Borchering and wife, Alissa of Manchaca; one sister, Jana O’Banon and husband, Andrew of Kyle; nieces, Rebekah O’banon of Kyle and Abigail Borcherding of Manchaca; the James W. Bonner Family of Texarkana, Robert Zikes Family of Temple; the Lloyd Borcherding of Texarkana and Dana Blocker of Sherman. He is also survived by his cousins, Emily Pennington, Terry Zikes, Jana Holubec, Lyndall Elkins, David Elkins and James Bonner, III.

J.C. Holland

J.C. “Jake” Holland, 79, of Denver City, died Friday, Aug. 20, in Lubbock.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the First Baptist Church with Bob Fred officiating. Burial was in Gaines County Cemetery in Seminole.

He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in De Leon to Daisy and Walter Holland, married Lois Elizabeth Graham Holland on Sept. 18, 1947, in Stephenville and they were married for 56 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Motor Sgt., was then employed by El Paso Natural Gas for 13 years, worked for Sue Stevens for many years, calf roped and bronc busted in the regional rodeos and owned and operated H&S Implement & Salvage in Denver City for 25 yeas.

Holland was preceded in death by a brother, Harley, three sisters, Myrtle Hale, Lorene Fuller and Imogene Holland.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Walter Holland and wife Judy of Pecos, Steven Holland and wife Lexi of Dahlonega, Georgia; two daughters, Elizabeth Brown and husband Curtis of Seminole and Nona Banks and husband Bob of Denver City; 11 grandchildren, Mark Brown and wife Lee Anne; Robert Banks and wife Jeanette; Grant Holland, Jake Holland, William Holland and Brandon, Michael and David Tate, Amy Brown, Leia Holland, Lydia Holland and eight great-grandchildren.

Clayton McKinney

Clayton McKinney, of Midland, Texas passed away on August 20, 2004.

Clayton was born June 4, 1940 to Pat McKinney and Vera Gulihur in Marathon, Texas and was raised and educated there.

Clayton worked in law enforcement all of his life. He was a pilot and Game Warden for the Texas Parks and Wildlife in Van Horn, Texas. Clayton was a well respected and well known Texas Ranger. He spent most of his time in Sierra Blanca and Alpine, Texas while with the Texas Rangers before retiring in 1985. He retired in 2002 as Chief Deputy for the Midland County Sheriff's Office. Clayton was also a lifetime member of the Sheriff's Association of Texas, a lifetime member of the Former Texas Ranger Association, an inductee in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and a member of Fort Hancock Masonic Lodge, Fort Hancock, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Pauline Stuart.

Clayton is survived by his wife Jean of Midland, TX, sons Clay and wife Brenda, their children Clay Ryon, Jake and Sarah, all of Pecos, TX.; Troy and wife Kim and their children Brooke, Clayton and Hannah, all of Collinsville, TX; and Rory and wife Katrina and their children Ember, Ethan, and Evan, all of Midland, TX. He is also survived by a brother Billy Pat McKinney of Comanche, TX. and a sister Midge Gooch, of Robert Lee, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, August, 23, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. Burial will follow at 4:00 P.M. at Marathon Cemetery in Marathon, TX. Reverend George Frasier will officiate both services. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.

Pall bearers will be Gary Painter, Jerry Gulihur, Macky Shackelford, George Litton, David Cook, Dewayne Lindsey, with honorary pallbearers being Dr. Jerry Cochran, Dr. James Barnett, and Dr. Bruce Mickey.

Alyssa Hernandez

Alyssa Liana Hernandez, 2 years old, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Johns Catholic Church with burial in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

She was born June 9, 2002, in Odessa and was a Catholic.

Survivors include her parents, Roberto Juan Hernandez of Monahans; her mother, Bertha Calderon Munoz of Monahans; grandparents: Raul Hernandez of Monahans, Alma Hernandez of Odessa, Fancisco Munoz of Monahans, Carmen Munoz of Monahans; one sister, Brittney Hernandez of Monahans.

Salvador Lozano

Salvador C. “Chava” Lozano, 56, of Pecos, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Wyoming. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born April 18, 1948, in Fresnillo Zacatecas, was a carpenter and a Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Frances B. Lozano; his mother, Dionicia Cruz Lozano; three sons, Salvador “Chavita” Lozano Jr. of Odessa, Rey David Lozano of Odessa, Hector Lozano of Barstow; two brothers, Manuel and Arturo Lozano of Juarez, Chihuahua and six grandchildren.

Esack Ramirez

Esack Sosa Ramirez, 76, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at Reev es County Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Assembly of God Church, 512 1/2 W. Third, Pecos.

He was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Fort Stockton, was retired, a member of the Pentacostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ramirez; three sons, Larry Ozuna of Midland, Isack Ramirez, Jr. of San Angelo, Raymond Ramirez of Mesquite; two brothers, Reyes Ramirez of Ft. Stockton, Richard Ramirez of Lubbock; three sisters, Susanna Blanco of Ft. Stockton, Socorro Celaya of San Angelo, Sandi Scott of Ft. Stockton; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Manuel Maynez

Manuel Maynez, 62, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital. Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, in Ojinaga, Mexico, with burial in San Jose Garden Cemetery in Ojinaga.

He was born Jan. 2, 1941, in Eutimia Coahuila, Mexico, was a laborer-farming, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Josefina Maynez of Pecos; three sons, Jose Maynez of Las Vegas, N.M., Juan Maynez of Las Vegas, N.M., Alfred Maynez of Ojinaga, Mexico; three daughters, Mirna Salgado of Pecos, Ana Luisa Maynez of Ojinaga, Mexico, Ermilia Sotelo of Artesia, N.M.; two brothers, Melchor Maynez of Odessa, Mario Maynez of Odessa and 13 grandchildren.

Susie Pattillo

Susie Edith Pattillo, 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13, at First Baptist Church of Burnet. Burial will follow at 3 p.m., in Eastlawn Cemetery in Brownwood.

She was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Leslie, Ark., to B.B. and Virginia Cypert and married L.A. “Rube” Pattillo on Oct. 14, 1933.

Pattillo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Tami Pattillo; two brothers, Alden and Clyde Cypert and one sister, Hailey Cypert.

Survivors include one son, Charles Pattillo of Brownwood; one daughter, Nancy Middlebrooks of Burnet; one sister, Kate McClung of Waco; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Robert Vasquez

Robert R. Vasquez, 49, of Odessa, formerly of Monahans, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father John Lucido officiating. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 20, 1955, in Monahans, was a meter tech and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie C. Vasquez of Odessa; one son, Robbie Vasquez of Odessa; one daughter, Laura Tomei of Odessa; four brothers, Erasmo, Ernesto, Alfredo and Raul Vasquez of San Antonio; two sisters, Elfida Terrazas of San Antonio, Luisa Pena of Monahans and three grandchildren.

Maria Gavaldon

Maria N. Gavaldon, 81, of Pecos, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Barstow, was a housewife and a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Zeferino Gavaldon; two sons, Baldomero Gavaldon of Freeport, Tx., Ysidro Gavaldon of Pasadena; two daughters, Bertha Morales of Pecos, Manuela Gavaldon of Houston; two brothers, Doroteo Morales of El Paso, Geraldo Morales of Odessa; one sister, Brijida Esparza of Saragosa; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Viola Brady

Viola K. Brady, 84, of Ft. Stockton, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in Odessa.

Graveside services will be held at a 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Jim Miles officiating.

She was born May 22, 1920, in Pierce, Okla., was a retired restaurant owner/operator, was a VFW Ladies Auxiliary member and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, had lived in Ft. Stockton since 1984 and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ann Miler of Groesbeck, Glenda Jean McKinney of Boerne; one brother, Lewis John Simpson of Teague and several nieces and nephews.

Severa Rubio

Severa L. Rubio, 70, of Ft. Stockton, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 31, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Floro Hinacay officiating. Burial was in Ft. Stockton Catholic Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 8, 1954, in Saragosa, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Rubio was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Rubio on Oct. 11, 2001 and one son, Luis Trejo in 1958.

Survivors include three sons, Jesus Trejo of Blith, Calif., Guillermo L. Rubio of Ft. Stockton, Demetrio L. Rubio of Ft. Stockon; one daughter, Linda Hernandez of Big Spring; two sisters, Luisa Gonzales of Ft. Stockton, Paula Avila of Pecos; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jose Tercero

Jose M. Tercero, 85, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Pecos, with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 17, 1919, in Ft. Davis, was a carpenter contractor, served in the U.S. army during WWII, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W.

Tercero was preceded in death by his wife, Concepsion and his parents, Navor and Maria Tercero.

Survivors include one son, Steve Tercero of Odessa; three daughters, Mary Botello of Orange Park, Fla., Priscilla Ely of Odessa, Rosa L. Delao of Odessa; two sisters, Fabiola Garcia of El Monte, Calif., Teresa Hernandez of Surprise, Ariz.; two brothers, Dolores “Lolo” Tercero of Surprise, Ariz., Ildelfonso “Poncho” Tercero of Prescott, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Pierson Johnson

Ruth Pierson Johnson Decker died July 27, 2004, in Kingwood. Graveside services will be held in Pecos, Aug. 4.

She was born Nov. 5, 1910, in Braxton County, WV, Ruth began her teaching career at the age of 17, teaching in a one-room school in the mountains of rural West Virginia. Later, she attended Glenville Normal School (now Glenville State University), then returned to the mountains she loved to continue her teaching career. She was a dedicated and gifted teacher.

In 1951, her family moved to Pecos, TX, where her husband Barrett Johnson was a successful cotton farmer. Ruth was active in the school activities of her children, taught Bible Study, served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union, and was involved with community organizations. After retirement, Ruth and Barrett moved to Ft. Gibson, OK, where they enjoyed fishing, gardening and their grandchildren. Ruth relocated to an assisted living home in Tulsa, then to Kingwood two years ago.

She is predeceased by her parents, Allie and Henderson Pierson, six brothers, one sister, a grandson, Mark Johnson, her husband of 48 years, Barrett Johnson and husband Ross Decker.

Survivors include her children Steve (Sally) Johnson of Kingwood, TX, Phil (Mary) Johnson of Danville, CA, Barbara (Sam) Whisenhunt of Owasso, OK, and Cindy (Bernie) Frakes of Shalimar, FL.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Romeo Ybarra

Romeo M. Ybarra, 66, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, in Austin.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Pecos, was a plumber, a lifetime resident, served in the U.S. Army and was a Catholic.

Ybarra was preceded in death by George Ybarra, Claudia Ybarra, Ramon Ybarra and Gustavo Ybarra.

Survivors include his wife, Sulema F. Ybarra of Austin; his father, Natividad Machuca of Pecos; two sons, James Romeo Ybarra of San Diego, Calif., Edward “Ed” Ybarra of Pecos; four daughters, Juliet Gonzales of Anthony, N.M., Romelia Theresa Edwards of Austin, Faye Searsy of El Paso, Margaret Lozoya of Austin; two brothers, Gilbert “Gilly” Ybarra, Roque “Lulu” Ybarra of Pecos; one sister, Aurora Baca of Roswell, N.M. and seven grandchildren.

Martha Barrier

Martha Barrier, 68, of Pecos, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Regency Hospital in Odessa.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 31, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born July 7, 1936, in Mart, was a retired cook and a member of the Pentecostal Church.

Barrier was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Barrier and parents R.D. and Willie Wright.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Terry of Pecos, Shirley Barrier of Waco; three brothers, Eddy Ferguson of Pecos, Willie Lee and Wallace Wright of Houston; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Brenda Fuentes, 20, of Pecos, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Sparkman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born June 29, 1984, in Pecos, was a student, a lifelong Pecos resident and a member of Church of Latter Day Saints.

Fuentes was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Rodney Sparkman, Sr. and paternal grandparents, Santos and Vivian Fuentes.

Survivors included her fiancé Samuel Gonzales of Pecos; her parents, Oscar and Pat Fuentes of Pecos; two brothers, Jonathan Fuentes of Nashville, Tenn., Brian Fuentes of Pecos; one sister, Jennifer Fuentes of Pecos; her grandparents Francis and Armando Esparza of Pecos and great-grandparents, Aurelio and Manuela Acosta of Pecos. Oscar William Lease III, 51, of Pecos, died Thursday, July 15, 2004. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 19, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greer Willis officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 20, 1952, in Houston, was a registered nurse at Reeves County Hospital and a Catholic.

Lease was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar William Lease II and Marion Kelly Lease; two brothers, Mark and Daniel Lease.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Lease of Pecos; three daughters, Tara Marie and Rachael Kelly Lease of Tulsa, Okla., Kelly Lee Ann Lease of Pecos; one son, William Lease of Pecos and one sister, Marta Warnke of Iowa.

Martha Soto, 57, of Pecos, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Reeves Count Hospital. Mass was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, at Assemblia Apostolica with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 28, 1947, in San Carlos, Chih., was a longtime Pecos resident, a housewife and a member of Assemblia Apostolica.

Survivors include her husband, Celedonio Soto; two sons, Omar and Auden Soto of Pecos; three daughters, Julie Soto, Luz Villescas and Morayma Baeza of Pecos; two brothers, Margarito and Lorenzo Garcia; two sisters, Wenceslada Garcia, Valentina Gonzales and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, at the First Christian Church of Ames with Rev. Kay Scott officiating. Burial was Wednesday, June 23, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. She was born Oct. 7, 1905, in McCallsburg, IA, to Marshall and Bertha Olson Pearson, after 35 years in Pecos, moved to Ames in 1968 before moving to the Eastern Star Home in Boone in 1994. She was a homemaker. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Wallace. Betty Louvenia Baker, 73, of Shattuck, Okla., died Monday, July 12, 2004.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Higgins, Tx., with the Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire and the Rev. Nancy Moore officiating. Burial was in the Higgins Cemetery in Higgins.

Baker spent her childhood years in Barstow, moved to Higgins in 1968 where she worked at Red Bud Grocery for many years and in 1980 moved to Eufaula Oklahoma. Later she moved back to Higgins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, her husband, H. Dee Baker and one step-son.

Survivors include one son Allen Baker of Higgins; one step-daughter, Debbie McCurdy; one step-son, Ralph Baker of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Jim McAnally of Dallas, Ernie McAnally of Amarillo; two sisters, Minnie Shults of Tucson, Ariz., Bobbie Hopper of Keller; one sister-in-law, Sharlet McAnally of Agle; seven grandchildren and six grandchildren.

Pilar J. Contreras, 66, of Pecos, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Ojinaga, Chih. Mexico, had been a butcher, was disabled, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Contreras was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Contreras. Virlee Terry, 72, of Pecos, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 19, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Domingues officiating and R.L. Pendleton assisting. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Wharton, was a school cafeteria employee and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Terry was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Terry, Sr.; four sons, Tom Jr., Edward, Earl and Early Terry; one brother, Robert McNeil and her parents, Johnny Pendleton and Alberta McNiel.

Funeral services were held on July 12 for Ofelia Valeriano, 55, who died on July 9, 2004 at her home in Pecos. Rosary services were held at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel on July 10, with funeral services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa under the direction of Fr. Joseph Uecker. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa.

Valeriano was born on Aug. 24, 1948 in Vado De Pienda, Chih., Mex., and was a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic. She was proceeded in death by her father, Jesus Acosta, and one brother, Emilio Acosta.

Reta Cunningham Reagan Severs, age 82, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, in Austin, Texas. She was born August 5, 1921, to Pearl and Otto Hillman in Brown County, Texas. She was reared by her grandparents and allended school in Early, Texas. She was preceded in death by her first husband of thirty nine years, Clarence Reagan; her husband of ten years, Les severs; her parents, Pearl and Otto Hillman, and grandparents, Maude and David Cunningham.

Survivors include: her daughters, Darlene Reagan Davis of Austin, TX.; Jan Reagan Guerin of Phoenix, AR; son, Lee Reagan of Buffalo Gap, TX; step-daughters, Jean Sellers Castro of Garland, TX.; Janet Clemente of Richmond, TX.; one step-son, Dan Severs of Euless, TX. Harrold Harris

Harrold Bell Harris, 65, of Richardson, died Thursday, July 1, 2004, in Richardson. A church service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel, Muleshoe with Kerry Winders of Earth, Tx., officiating. Burial was in Labuddie Cemetery, in Lazbuddie, Tx.

Harris was born March 12, 1939, in Frog Hop, Lamar County, lived in Richardson for 20 years moving from Pecos, was a member of the Baptist Church and an ordained minister with the World Christianship Ministries. He was also a member of the Rosicrucian Order since 1994 and an officer with the Salvation Army. He had served in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a security guard and had owned his own security company in the past.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Sue Chancellor and Juanita Harris; three brothers, Andrew Woodson Harris, Lonnie Gaylan Harris and Clydoda Harris.

Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Smith of Lazbuddie; one son, Danny Harris of Kermit; one sister, Loray Davis of Garland and five grandchildren.

Joyce Burkhalter, 75, of Pecos, died Thursday, July 1, 2004, in El Paso.

She was born June 30, 1929, in Pecos, was a longtime Pecos resident, a former telephone operator and a member of the Church of Christ.

Charles Allison

Charles E. “Mike” Allison, Jr., 86, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., today, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Greer Willis officiating.

He was born July 22, 1918, in Wall, joined the U.S. Navy on Pearl Harbor Day in 1941, and remained for 12 years. In 1943, he was assigned to the Second Marine Corps, serving as a Medic. Shortly after the A-Bomb was dropped at Nagasaki, Japan, the Division was assigned there for almost one year doing demolition and helping the country get back to livable conditions. He was released to inactive duty after returning home to Camp Pendleton in December of 1947. In July 1950, He was recalled back to active duty for 18 months during the Korean Conflict. After returning he ran the City Drive-In Cleaners for 40 years with his wife.

Allison was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pecos, where he and his dad joined the same day in 1929.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Charles Allison, III.

Survivors include his wife, Cleta Jo Allison; one son, Rob Allison of Lubbock; one daughter, Vicki Jo Dalton of Monahans; one sister, Louise Stocks of Gilmer; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two nephews.

Linda Fine Glenn, 59, of Midland, died Friday, May 14.

She was born Sept. 17, 1944, in Midland, graduated from Midland High in 1962, attended Sul Ross State University for two years, she worked with her husband in a diesel mechanic business in Pecos, they retired in September 200 and moved to Midland in March 2004.

Patricia Strother

Patricia L. Robertson Strother, 68, died in Georgetown, after a lengthy battle with Parkinsons.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 7 p.m. at St. Philips United Methodist Church in Round Rock, under the direction of Dr. Dale Schultz. Reception with the family will follow.

Patricia was born on July 10, 1935 in Sudan, Texas to parents Melvin and Velma Robertson. She grew up in Lubbock. Patricia married Thomas A. Strother on June 4, 1955. They lived in Lubbock, Dallas, Big Spring, Odessa, Pecos and Waco, where he served as a Minister for the United Methodist Church and as a Vice President of The Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. They retired in Round Rock in 1998.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Rev. Tom Strother; her children, Mark Strother of Amarillo/El Paso, Lissa Cobb of Greenville, Michael Strother of Round Rock, and Lori Ramirez of Austin; one brother, Ronnie Robertson of Lubbock; one sister, Peggy Robertson of Taylor Lake Village; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Merkel Church of Christ with Larry Gill and Mike Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Williams was born May 13, 1932 in Merkel to Everett Grady and Jimmie Clary Williams. He married Ava Wilcher on November 30, 1957 in Rotan.

Williams graduated from Merkel High School in 1952, was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and the National Guard, a member of the Merkel Church of Christ and one of the song leaders. He was a division line foreman for Texas New Mexico Power Company for 30 years, retiring in 1994 and moving back to Merkel from Pecos, was a director of Sun Water, Inc. and a member of the Merkel Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife, Ava Williams of Merkel; one son, James Williams of Houston; two daughters, Wanda Faye Ryan of Barstow, Janice Sue North of Pecos; three brothers, Don Williams of Little Rock, AR, Pat Williams of Merkel, Robert Williams of WA; one sister Mary Fay Loflin of McAllen; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James David “J.D.” Bell, 45, of Pecos, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 8, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Foster officiating.

He was born Jan. 1, 1959, in Pecos, was a lifelong resident and a salesman.

Survivors include his father, Bobby Bell of Odessa; his mother Ann Pilgrim of Abilene and one brother, Mark Wayne Bell of Odessa.

Merle Payne

Merle Payne, 87, of Balmorhea, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at the Pecos Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 7, at the First Baptist Church in Balmorhea with burial in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born July 28, 1916, in Iraan, was a retired school nurse, a long time Balmorhea resident and a Baptist.

Payne was preceded in death by her husband C.E. “Don” Payne and granddaughter Kimberly Carr.

Survivors include one son, Jackie Payne of Mineral Wells; three daughters, Connie Studer of Idalou, Syree Rawlings of San Angelo, Patsy Occhiato of Pueblo, Colo.; two sisters, Francis Jones of Balmorhea, Omar Bonny of Tiller, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Augustin Tarango

Augustin G. Tarango, 76, of Pecos, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, May 7, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

He was born May 28, 1927, in Pecos, was a retired bus driver, a lifetime Pecos resident, served in the U.S. Army in World War II, was a member of V.F.W. and a Catholic. Tarango was preceded in death by two sons.

Survivors include three daughters, Maria T. Salgado of Big Spring, Celia Alumnia of Midland, Lydia Gomez of Ridgecrest, Calif.; seven sons, David Tarango of San Angelo, Ruben Tarango and Arturo Jimenez of Pecos, Jimmy and Martin Tarango of Bradenton, Fla., Jesus Tarango of Fresno, Calif., Frank Tarango of Casa Grande, Ariz.; four sister, Maria T. Dawson, Alicia T. Barreno, Margarita Garcia of Pecos, Otilia Garcia of Los Angeles, Calif.; 33 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Dora Telles

Dora Telles, 79, died Wednesday, May 4, 2004, after a lengthy illness. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Mass is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, at St. Genevieve’s with Rev. John Telles officiating.

Telles was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Balmorhea, to Frank and Maria Matta nd was a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Jose Telles of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sons, Richard Telles of Las Cruces, Arturo Telles of Anthony, N.M.; five sisters, Dalila Herrera, Santos Guevara, Rita Torres of Las Cruces, Lois Vasquez of Pecos, Theresa Ramirez of Redlands, Calif.; two brothers, Joe Matta of Pyote, Dr. Frank Matta of Clarksville, Miss. and two granddaughters.
