Danny Leos

Danny Leos, 43, of Pecos, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital. Mass was held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 28, at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 13, 1960, in Pecos, was a lifetime resident of Pecos, a Police Officer with the Pecos Police Department and former Reeves County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Leos of Pecos; one daughter, Lisa Marie Zermeno of Pecos; two brothers, Abel Leos Jr. of Garland, Ynes Leos of Ivanhoe, Calif.; four sisters, Felipa and Rebecca Leos of San Angelo, Norma Dominguez and Mary Hernandez of Pecos.

Rita Baeza

Rita Sanchez De Baeza, 89, of Pecos, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at her residence. Mass was held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 18, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

She was born May 22, 1915, in El Mesquite, Ojinaga, Chih., was a housewife and a Catholic.

Baeza was preceded in death one daugher, Lazartia Baeza; her parents, Vidal and Rita Padilla Sanchez and her husband, Teodoro Guiterrez Baeza.

Survivors include three sons, Pablo Baeza of Pecos, Ireno Baeza of Tula, Teodoro Baeza of Amarillo; five daughters, Maria Luisa Baeza De Baeza of Burlington, Colo., Maria De Jesus Baeza De Payen of Pecos, Agustina Baeza De Paz of Mesqui, Chih., Rocio Baeza De Bernabel of Liberal, Kan.; one brother, Celestino Sanchez of Tatum, N.M.; one sister, Angeleta Sanchez De Ontiveros of Chih., Mexico; 31 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

Staci Wheeless

Staci Lynn Wheeless, 38, of Pecos, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at her residence. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 14, at First Christian Church with L.H. Woodard officiating. Burial was in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born April 6, 1966, in Ft. Stockton and had lived in Pecos a long time.

Survivors include her parents, Bailey and Patsy Wheeless of Pecos and one sister, Tobi Stewart of Fredricksburg.

Manuel Rubio

Manuel Rubio, 80, of Pecos, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A rosary was held at 7 p.m., Friday, June 4, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial in Santa Rosa Catholic Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Ft. Stockton, was a laborer, a longtime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Rubio was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Filomena Rubio; one son, Guadalupe Rubio; two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Apolonia P. Rubio of Pecos; four sons, Manuel Rubio, Jr. of Flower Mound, Danny and Israel Rubio of Pecos, Ismael Rubio of Lubbock; five sisters, Trinidad R. Gallardo of Lubbock, Teresa R. Prieto and Lisa R. Fuentes of Pecos, Eliser R. Rayos of Carlsbad, N.M., Erlinda R. Shannon of Beaumont and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Whitlow

Kenneth William Whitlow, an infant, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Odessa Regional Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, at Fairview Cemetery with Roger Whitlow officiating.

Survivors include his parents, Scott and Tina Whitlow of Monahans and one sister, Amanda M. Whitlow of Monahans.

Helen Hagar

Funeral services for Helen Marie Simpson Hagar, 88, of Normangee, were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 6, at the Harmony Baptist Church in Normangee.

Rev. M.L. Magee assisted by Jamey R. Wright officiated.

Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Hagar and her husband lived in Pecos for over 50 years.

Manuel Rubio

Manuel Rubio, 80, of Pecos, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, June 4, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial in Santa Rosa Catholic Cemetery.

Charles Allison

Charles E. “Mike” Allison, Jr., 86, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., today, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery with Greer Willis officiating.

He was born July 22, 1918, in Wall, joined the U.S. Navy on Pearl Harbor Day in 1941, and remained for 12 years. In 1943, he was assigned to the Second Marine Corps, serving as a Medic. Shortly after the A-Bomb was dropped at Nagasaki, Japan, the Division was assigned there for almost one year doing demolition and helping the country get back to livable conditions. He was released to inactive duty after returning home to Camp Pendleton in December of 1947. In July 1950, He was recalled back to active duty for 18 months during the Korean Conflict. After returning he ran the City Drive-In Cleaners for 40 years with his wife.

Allison was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pecos, where he and his dad joined the same day in 1929.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Charles Allison, III.

Survivors include his wife, Cleta Jo Allison; one son, Rob Allison of Lubbock; one daughter, Vicki Jo Dalton of Monahans; one sister, Louise Stocks of Gilmer; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two nephews.

Diann McKenna

Diann McKenna, 50, died Wednesday, of Dublin, May 19, 2004, at her residence. Services were held Sunday, May 23, at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Hooper officiating.

She was born Sept. 13, 1953, in Decatur and was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Les and Evan Bagley of San Antonio, Shawn McKenna of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, Bill Tapp of Clariette and two sisters, Paulett Lawrence of Post, Tresa McCain of Odessa.

Manuela H. Alvarez

Manuela H. Alvarez, 85, of Pecos, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Gustavo Lopez officiating. Burial will be in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born July 11, 1918, in Balmorhea, was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Alvarez was preceded in death by her husband; one son and one daughter.

Survivors include three sons, Beto “Eddie” Alvarez of Fort Davis, Rodolfo Alvarez of Odessa, Henry Alvarez of El Paso; four daughters, Eloisa Cortez of Pecos, Magdalena Valencia of Odessa, Faye Moran of Odessa, Patricia Ornelas of Laredo; one sister, Delia Lozano of Odessa; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Jerry Mendoza

Jerry Ray Mendoza, 20, of Balmorhea, died Thursday, May 13, in California.

Visitation is scheduled at Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea, from 3-10 p.m., Thursday, and from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial in Balmorhea Cemetery.

Mendoza was born Feb. 11, 1984 in Ft. Stockton, was a U.S. Marine stationed in San Diego, California. He had lived in Balmorhea all his life.

Survivors include his parents, Sylvia and Manuel Mendoza of Balmorhea; two sisters, Marlynn Lujan and Melanie Morales; two brothers, Manuel Lee and Brian Mendoza; his maternal grandmother, Adela Martinez and numerous nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.

Odessa Mae Jenkins

Odessa Mae Jenkins, 68, of Pecos, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Dominguez and R.L. Pendleton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born March 15, 1936, in Marshall, was a retired security guard and a longtime Pecos resident.

Jenkins was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cora Silmon; husband, Joe Lewis Jenkins; brothers, Willie B. Hall, Willie Sterling, Clayton Silmon; sisters, Johnnie V. Green, Ina Mae Jenkins and a host of relatives and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Charles Jenkins of Albuquerque, N.M., Reginal L. Jenkins of New York, N.Y.; three daughters, Linda K. Jenkins of Odessa, Loretta Faye Jenkins of Pecos, Reecia L. Mauldin of Odessa; two brothers, John and Marvin Silmon of Marshall; four sisters, Rosa Lee Washington , Molly and Eloise Silmon of Marshall, Betty Silmon of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Linda Glenn

Linda Fine Glenn, 59, of Midland, died Friday, May 14.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, at Grace Presbyterian Church of Midland with Rev. David Bonds officiating.

She was born Sept. 17, 1944, in Midland, graduated from Midland High in 1962, attended Sul Ross State University for two years, she worked with her husband in a diesel mechanic business in Pecos, they retired in September 200 and moved to Midland in March 2004.

Survivors include her husband, Clint M. Glenn of Midland; two daughters, Candy Armstrong and Johnna La Touche; three step-sons, Dennis, David and Doug Glenn; two step-daughters, Kelly Bickle and Rhonda James; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Odessa Jenkins

Odessa Jenkins, 68, of Pecos, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Patricia Strother

Patricia L. Robertson Strother, 68, died in Georgetown, after a lengthy battle with Parkinsons.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 7 p.m. at St. Philips United Methodist Church in Round Rock, under the direction of Dr. Dale Schultz. Reception with the family will follow.

Patricia was born on July 10, 1935 in Sudan, Texas to parents Melvin and Velma Robertson. She grew up in Lubbock. Patricia married Thomas A. Strother on June 4, 1955. They lived in Lubbock, Dallas, Big Spring, Odessa, Pecos and Waco, where he served as a Minister for the United Methodist Church and as a Vice President of The Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. They retired in Round Rock in 1998.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Rev. Tom Strother; her children, Mark Strother of Amarillo/El Paso, Lissa Cobb of Greenville, Michael Strother of Round Rock, and Lori Ramirez of Austin; one brother, Ronnie Robertson of Lubbock; one sister, Peggy Robertson of Taylor Lake Village; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sidney J. Williams

Sidney J. Williams, 71, died Friday, May 7, 2004 in a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Merkel Church of Christ with Larry Gill and Mike Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Williams was born May 13, 1932 in Merkel to Everett Grady and Jimmie Clary Williams. He married Ava Wilcher on November 30, 1957 in Rotan.

Williams graduated from Merkel High School in 1952, was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and the National Guard, a member of the Merkel Church of Christ and one of the song leaders. He was a division line foreman for Texas New Mexico Power Company for 30 years, retiring in 1994 and moving back to Merkel from Pecos, was a director of Sun Water, Inc. and a member of the Merkel Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife, Ava Williams of Merkel; one son, James Williams of Houston; two daughters, Wanda Faye Ryan of Barstow, Janice Sue North of Pecos; three brothers, Don Williams of Little Rock, AR, Pat Williams of Merkel, Robert Williams of WA; one sister Mary Fay Loflin of McAllen; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James David “J.D.” Bell, 45, of Pecos, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Reeves County Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 8, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Foster officiating.

He was born Jan. 1, 1959, in Pecos, was a lifelong resident and a salesman.

Survivors include his father, Bobby Bell of Odessa; his mother Ann Pilgrim of Abilene and one brother, Mark Wayne Bell of Odessa.

Merle Payne

Merle Payne, 87, of Balmorhea, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at the Pecos Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 7, at the First Baptist Church in Balmorhea with burial in Balmorhea Cemetery.

She was born July 28, 1916, in Iraan, was a retired school nurse, a long time Balmorhea resident and a Baptist.

Payne was preceded in death by her husband C.E. “Don” Payne and granddaughter Kimberly Carr.

Survivors include one son, Jackie Payne of Mineral Wells; three daughters, Connie Studer of Idalou, Syree Rawlings of San Angelo, Patsy Occhiato of Pueblo, Colo.; two sisters, Francis Jones of Balmorhea, Omar Bonny of Tiller, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Augustin Tarango

Augustin G. Tarango, 76, of Pecos, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., today, at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, May 7, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

He was born May 28, 1927, in Pecos, was a retired bus driver, a lifetime Pecos resident, served in the U.S. Army in World War II, was a member of V.F.W. and a Catholic. Tarango was preceded in death by two sons.

Survivors include three daughters, Maria T. Salgado of Big Spring, Celia Alumnia of Midland, Lydia Gomez of Ridgecrest, Calif.; seven sons, David Tarango of San Angelo, Ruben Tarango and Arturo Jimenez of Pecos, Jimmy and Martin Tarango of Bradenton, Fla., Jesus Tarango of Fresno, Calif., Frank Tarango of Casa Grande, Ariz.; four sister, Maria T. Dawson, Alicia T. Barreno, Margarita Garcia of Pecos, Otilia Garcia of Los Angeles, Calif.; 33 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Dora Telles

Dora Telles, 79, died Wednesday, May 4, 2004, after a lengthy illness. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Mass is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, at St. Genevieve’s with Rev. John Telles officiating.

Telles was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Balmorhea, to Frank and Maria Matta nd was a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Jose Telles of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sons, Richard Telles of Las Cruces, Arturo Telles of Anthony, N.M.; five sisters, Dalila Herrera, Santos Guevara, Rita Torres of Las Cruces, Lois Vasquez of Pecos, Theresa Ramirez of Redlands, Calif.; two brothers, Joe Matta of Pyote, Dr. Frank Matta of Clarksville, Miss. and two granddaughters.
