Abel Hinojos Leos Jr.

Abel Hinojos Leos, Jr., 62, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in Garland.

Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with Father Manuel Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born May 14, 1943, in Pecos, was a retired land surveyor, had lived in Garland for seven years and was a Catholic.

Leos was preceded in death by his parents, Abel Sr. and Manuela Leos; his wife, Alicia Leos; one brother, Danny Leos and one stepson, Armando Armendariz.

Survivors include two sons, Arturo Leos and Alvaro Leos of Dallas; one stepdaughter, Rosemary Urias of Pecos; two brothers, Ynes Leos of Ivanhoe, Calif., Gabriel Leos of San Angelo; three sisters, Felipa Leos of San Angelo, Maria Hernandez and Norma Dominguez of Pecos; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John Thomas Marsh Jr.

John Thomas “J.T.” Marsh Jr., 82, of Toyah, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Odessa.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at West Park Baptist Church with Brother Rey Carreon officiating. Burial will be in Toyah Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Denham Springs, La., served in the Navy, 3rd Division Marine Medic in World War II, was a retired Justice of the Peace and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Marsh of Toyah; two sons, John C. Marsh of Arizona, Jimmy Marsh of Odessa; two daughters, Bettie Ann Marsh-Peach of Pensacola, Fla., Renee Crabille of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Minnie Lee Barnett of Bosier City, La.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Pearl Marie Phillips

Pearl Marie Phillips, 75, of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29, at Paul’s Funeral Home Chapel in Hugoton, Kansas with Minister Jeff Aenk officiating. Burial was in Hugoton Memorial Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Hugoton, Kansas, was a retired bookkeeper, had lived in Pecos a long time and was a member of First Christian Church.

Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Hilda Shelton; one brother, Earl Shelton; one sister, Esther Tipton; one daughter, Elizabeth Phillips and her husband, Harold Phillips.

Survivors include one son, Woodrow Phillips of Pecos; one daughter, Jana Davis of Pecos; one brother, Larry Shelton of Woodrow, Okla.; two sisters, Ruby Rowden of Hugoton, Kansas, Ruthie Zimmerman of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren and five grandchildren.

Pat Rushing

Pat Rushing, 78, of Andrews died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Phil J. Marroquin, Pastor of Apostolic Worship Center in Andrews, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 14, 1927 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Robert E. Rushing and Sadie Sanders Rushing, studied engineering at the University of Texas in Austin, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, moved to Andrews in 1951 from Monahans, worked for Exxon from 1952-1985, was a past member of the National Rifle Association and was a member of the Exxon Annuitant Club in Andrews and a full faith Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife: Jean Rushing of Andrews; two sons: Rick Rushing of Andrews and Mark Rushing of Pecos; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. McNett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ramon Vega

Ramon Vega, 39, of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 23, 1966, in Littlefield, was a laborer, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Villalobos Vega of Pecos; three sons, Timothy Ruben Villalobos of Midland, Benito Ray Vega of Pecos, Christopher Gomez of Post; five daughters, Janifer Vega of Odessa, Angela and Trina Villalobos of Pecos, Desiree and Adriana Vega of Pecos; two sister, Cecilia Guajardo and Elaine Ortega of Pecos; two brothers, Juan Francisco Vega Jr. of Fort Worth, Leon Lee Vega of Odessa and nine grandchildren.

Agapito Acosta

Agapito Acosta, 89, of Pecos, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in Odessa.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, at Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Candelaria, was an oilfield pipeline laborer, a lifetime Pecos resident and a Catholic.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory Acosta of Yakima, Washington, Pito Acosta of Pecos; two daughters, Dora Talamantez of Odessa, Teodora Acosta Burciaga of Pecos; three sisters, Inez Olivas of Odessa, Tomasa Salgado and LaLa Machuca of Pecos; two brothers, Manuel Acosta of Artesia, Pedrito Acosta of Pecos; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Cruz Bitolas

Cruz Bitolas, 79, of Pecos, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at her residence.

A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery.

She was born May 3, 1926, in Pecos, was a lifetime Pecos resident, a homemaker, a Catholic, who was a member of the Guadalupanas and Crusillista De Colores.

Bitolas was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister and one son, Manuel “Bobby” Bitolas Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Manuel “Bibi” Bitolas of Pecos; one son, Danny Bitolas of Pecos; one daughter, Mary Bitolas of Pecos; one brother, Louis “Lichi” Ortiz of Pecos; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Joan Hamilton

Joan Hamilton, 71, of Chester, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in the Fairview Regional Medical Center in Fairview, Okla.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Orion Baptist Church in Orion, Okla., with Rev. Leroy Goodman officiating.

She was born March 7, 1934, in Graham, to John Roy and Alma (McCalister) Vick, was raised in Fort Stockton, graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1952, moved to Odessa until 1959, when she then moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. She raised and showed Welsh Ponies and Pony’s of America (P.O.A). and received many awards and trophies. She was the owner of Teredaine Kennels where she raised and bred champion Shetland Sheep Dogs. She and her husband, Neil Hamilton retied in 1983 and moved to Pecos, where they lived until Neil passed away in 1989. In 1999, Joan moved to Midland, to care for her mother. Her mother passed away in 2004 and in March of 2005 she moved to Chester with her niece. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pecos, after moving to Fairview she transferred her membership to the Orion Baptist Church in Orion, Okla.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay Kleck of Odessa; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one niece; two nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made through the funeral home to the Orion Baptist Church.

Sylvia Roman

Sylvia Roman, 44, of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Odessa. Services are still pending.

She was born Feb. 11, 1961, in Pecos.

She was preceded in death by her mother Guadalupe Roman and brother Manuel Roman Jr.

Survivors include one daughter Amanda Roman; one son Keyon Roman; her father Manuel Roman Sr.; three brothers Eddie Roman, John Paul Roman, and Norman Roman, four sisters Olga Matta, Mary Alice Brijalba, Beatrice De Los Santos, Lori Contreras; one granddaughter; 16 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews.

Angelica Pina

Angelica Navarrette Pina, 72, of Pecos, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006.

Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Peaceful Garden Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Ojinaga, Mexico and was a housewife.

Pina was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Navarrette and Ydelfonsa Perez.

Survivors include three sons, Raul Pina of Presidio, Hector Pina of Odessa, Ramon Pina of El Paso; two daughters, Isela Lujan of Pecos, Manuela Pina of Odessa; five sisters, Maria Del Refugio Davila, Epimenia Patino, Pilar Gomez, Cruz Navarrette, Maria Gutierrez; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Harrison

Helen Frances Harrison, 81, a long time resident of Pecos, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 15, at Pecos Funeral Home with Brother L.H. Woodard officiating.

She was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Rose, Okla, to Woodson and Evelyn Knott. She was a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and “the great” grandmother. She was retired from H&H Production Service Company, the family owned business they began in 1971.

Harrison was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Harrison; one brother, G.J. Knott and her parents, Woodson and Evelyn Knott.

Survivors include her five children: Jack Davis of Kerrville, Jimmie Kemp and husband, Ben of Andrews, Roger Harrison and wife Angela of Pecos, Jerry Harrison and wife Grace of Wink and Glen Harrison and wife Karen of Sweetwater; nine grandchildren, Jason Davis and wife Brooke, Leelyn Bishop, Brandi and Kaci Harrison, Jacob and Jeremy Harrison, and Kristen, Tatum and Kaitlen Harrison; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kendall and Jackson Harrison Davis; one brother, Wayne Knott; two sisters, Agnes Purdue and Gwen Talley.

Billie Clarkston

Billie Ruth Clarkston, 79, of Lampasas, died on Jan. 10, 2006 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Briggs Gamel Wilcox Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Brownwood, graduated with a B.A. from Howard Payne University, went on to teach reading, English and Spanish at the Junior High level in Lampasas, Balmorhea, Robstown, Riesel and Fort Hood; her teaching career spanned three decades before she retired, was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lampasas, where she was very involved in her church as a youth choir director and member of the choir; was a member of the TEA and the TSTA.

Clarkston was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. “Bob” Clarkston; one son, John Edward Rutledge and one granddaughter, Regina Tucker Perryman.

Survivors include four sons, Howard Glenn Rutledge, Jr. of Lampasas, Victor R. Rutledge of Antioch, Tenn., Robert E. Clarkston of Stafford, R.L. “Bucky” Clarktson of Lampasas; four daughters, Anita Rutledge of Verhalen, Barbara Clarkston of Kempner, Lynda Clarkston Reavis of Philadelphia, Ann Clarkson of Lampasas; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ona May Graef

Ona May Graef, 93, of Fort Stockton, died Jan. 8, 2006, in Fort Stockton.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ernie Vinyard officiating.

Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine.

She was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Scurry County, was a ranch owner and operator, had lived in Balmorhea since 1961, had been a longtime member of the West of the Pecos Cattlewomen Association, Bridge Player and Well Kept Community Club.

Graef was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Graef in March 1962.

Survivors include two nieces, Leona Trowbridge of Balmorhea and Linda Darlene Steward of San Angelo.

Benito Hignojos Jr.

Benito Hignojos Jr., 46, of Lubbock, died Jan. 9, 2006, in Lubbock.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 13, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church.

Hignojos was preceded in death by two brothers, Jose and Hipolito Hignojos and his father, Benito Hignojos Sr.

He was born Sept. 12, 1959, in Pecos and was a Catholic.

Survivors include his mother, Carmen Hignojos; four brothers, Luis Hignojos of Lubbock, Geronimo Hignojos of Pecos, Ismael Hignojos of Ft. Stockton, Ezequiel Hignojos of Barstow and one sister, Lydia Garcia of Barstow.

Carlos Lopez

Carlos Lopez, 39, died Jan. 11, 2006, in El Paso.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time under the direction of Crestview Funeral Home of El Paso.

Lopez was born Jan. 23, 1967, in Midland, had lived in Pecos for a number of years, graduated from Pecos High School and was employed with J Edwards Jewelry in El Paso.

Survivors include his wife, Laura M. Lopez of El Paso; two sons, Robert and Angel Lopez of El Paso; his parents, Edmundo Lopez Sr. and Rosario Lopez of Pecos; one sister, Corina Navarrete of Midland; three brothers, Edmundo Lopez Jr., Francisco Lopez of Alpine, Humberto Lopez of Northern Richland Hills and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack Osborn

Jack Richard Osborn, 65, of Toyah, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at his home in Toyah.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, in Toyah with Raymond and Karen Hornberger officiating.

He was born July 8, 1940, in Pecos, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a truck driver, fence builder and windmill man.

Osborn was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Leta; three sisters, Billie Faye, Ilene and Irene and six brothers, Roy Lee, Tom, John, Joe, Jim and Charlie.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Osborn of Toyah; sons, Jack Jr. and Damien of Pecos; Amanda of Waco; Darren and Julie Guthrie of Enid, Okla.; two brothers, Dan Osborn of Huntsville and Jay Walker of Azle; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.

Priscilla D. Duran

Services: Priscilla “Cilla” D. Duran, 23, of West Church Street, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Jan. 1, 2006 at Carlsbad Medical Center.

A vigil was held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, 7:00 p.m., at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel with Nathan Knight officiating.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Oasis Christian Fellowship with Pastor Gabriel Rubio officiating.

Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

“Cilla” Priscilla D. Duran was born August 8, 1982 in Monahans, Texas to Danny and Priscilla Villaloboz Villescas. She started school in Pecos, then moved to Carlsbad in 1992 and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2000. While attending school in Carlsbad, Cilla was active in band, color guard and girl’s track. Cilla also loved to dance and was a 10 year student at the Harding Webster School of Dance. Cilla married Daniel Duran on August 12, 2000 in Las Cruces, NM. They moved to Odessa where she attended American Commercial College to learn medical transcription. Cilla and her family moved back to Carlsbad in 2004 where she went to work at Carlsbad Medical Center in the business office. Cilla was an active member of Oasis Christian Fellowship and enjoyed participating in their drama productions. Cilla loved her family and especially enjoyed family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Villescas, Jr. and grandparents Ben Villaloboz and Betty Marquez.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Duran of Carlsbad, N.M.; two daughters, Diamond Delani and Danielle Crystal of Carlsbad, N.M.; her parents, Danny and Priscilla Villescas of Carlsbad, N.M.; one brother, Luis Villescas of Odessa; three sisters, Karen Jaquez and husband Robert of Carlsbad, N.M., D'Andra Olguin of Carlsbad, N.M., Breanne Villescas of Carlsbad, N.M.; her grandparents, Roddy and Betty Villescas Sr. of Pecos, her parents-in-law: Larry and Sylvia Granger of Carlsbad, N.M.; her brothers- In -Law: Joshua Hernandez and wife Michelle of Ft. Hood, Tx, Chris Hernandez of Carlsbad, N.M.; her Grandfather-In-Law: Guadalupe Duran of Carlsbad, N.M.; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.
