Pecos golfers play in Stockton,

FORT STOCKTON, June 19, 1996 - Fifteen members of the
Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Summer Golf Program competed last week in a youth
tournament sponsored by the Fort Stockton Ladies' Golf Association at
the Pecos County Municipal Golf Course.
Three Pecos golfers placed first in the younger age divisions at last
Thursday's tournament, according to coach Joe Wheeler. Taryn McNeil and
Tye Edwards won their divisions with 9-hole scores of 51 and 39
respectively. Mikel Martinson was third in the boys division with a 47
score, Trey Perkins was fifth with a 49 and Clayton Cox was sixth in the
a 50.
John Canon shot a 63, David Bradley a 68 and Trey Edwards a 72 for the
other boys 9-hole scores.
In the youngest age group, which played 6-holes at the tournament and
combined both boys girls golfers, Cole Martinson won with a 29 score and
Jennie Canon was second with a 32.
Among the players who went the full 18 holes last Thursday, Wheeler said
Casey Love shot an 80 to finish third in the boys division, Courtney
Freeman had a 98 and was fourth, while Austin Alvarez was sixth with a
108 score and Jay Ewing had a 120.
Kim Clark was the lone Pecos girl to participate, and she finished sixth
in her division with a 102 total.
Wheeler, who is being assisted by coach Kim Anderson in the summer
program, said Love also participated in the Junior PGA Tour event held
Monday at the Ward County Golf Course in Monahans, where he shot an 82
to place fifth in the 13-14 year old division.
