All-Star teams selected for area LL, JL tourneys
All Star teams were selected for the Pecos Little League and Junior League on Wednesday night, with the District 37 Tournament games scheduled to start at the end of June and the start of July.
Teams in the 9-10, 11 and 11-12 year-old age groups were selected for the Little League, while the Junior League also announced its 13-14 year old All-Star squad at Chano Prieto Field, following the Yankees’ 5-3 win over the Mets in 10 innings, in the Little League’s A Division Championship Game.
Players from those teams were part of both the 11-12 year-old All-Star squad, which will play its tournament games in Fort Stockton, and the 11-year-old group, which will have its tournament in Pecos.
The 11-12 All-Stars will be made up of Giovannie Ortiz, John Michael Rodriguez, Jason Martinez, Brandon Gonzales, Nathan Martinez, John Christopher Hernandez, Joe Angel Villegas, Kristopher Quintana, Aaron Navarette, Shane Franco, Nelson McGrew and Chris Soto, with Arturo Quintana and Harvey Gonzales as coaches.
The 11-year-old team includes Jerry Dominguez, Bubba Henson, J.J. Urias, Sylvestre Ramirez, Noah Ramirez, John Benavidez, Avery Rivera, Javier Navarrete, Kaleb Valenzuela, Kevin Ramirez, Tyler Gonzalez, Tyler Gomez and Josiah Bechtel. Israel Campos and Danny Soto are the coaches.
The 9-10 year old team will have its tournament this year in Monahans. Players named to the team were Enrique Franco, Derek Jasso, Bryton Stewart, Isaiah Ornelas, Justin Dominguez, Anthony Muniz, Isaiah Florez, Jesus Franco, Jacob Zuniga, Dominic Espudo, Mark Anthony Sotelo, E.J. Garcia and Raul Moreno. Ricky Barreno and Freddy Contreras will be the coaches.
The Junior League squad will have its District 37 Tournament in Fort Stockton in two weeks, and will be made up of Zachary Gomez, Phillip Ontiveros, Joey Varela, Roderick Renteria, Cesar Ortega, Raymon Mata, Pony Palomino, Jay Hinojos, Sammy Villegas, Alvaro Dominguez, J.J. Lerma, Jeffrey Trujillo and Quinten Garcia. Raymond Mata, Frankie Ramos and Raul Palomino are the coaches.
Pecos won the District 37 title a year ago in the 11-12 year old age group and in the 9-10 division, before losing out in Section 1 play. Monahans won last year’s District 37 Junior League title, while Pecos did not field a team in the 11-year-old division in 2009.
