Balmorhea placed second in the district this season with a 4-2 record, and then advanced to the area round of the Class A-Division II six-man playoffs, before falling to eventual state runner-up Sterling City. Along with Virdell, the other first team selections on offense for the Bears were senior tight end Ryan Mondragon, and junior running backs Alexander Mendoza and Justin Ramos.
