Pecos police said drugs were found, but no arrests have been made as of yet, following the search of a house Tuesday evening that was the reported site of a weekend stabbing incident.

Warrants are pending following Tuesday's raid, which involved a narcotics search warrant that was executed last evening on a home at 810 S. Oak St.

Police were called to that home Saturday night, after responding to a call in reference to a fight in progress in the 800 block of S. Oak Street. Upon arrival officers located a stabbing victim at 817 S. Oak Street. Enrique Romero, 32, stated that he had been stabbed during an altercation with Rigoberto Perez, 27, and Albert Perez, 22.

Romero indicated that he was at Perez's residence located at 810 S. Oak St. when the altercation occurred. Romero was stabbed in the lower right hand side of the back and beaten repeatedly over the head with a wooden board. He was treated and released that night as well.

In Tuesday's warrant search, officers with the Pecos Police Department and the 143rd District Attorney's Office were involved in the search, during which a substance believed to be cocaine was found on the premises, according to Pecos Police Investigator Paul Deishler.

"Also found on the premises was paraphernalia used in the storing of cocaine," said Deishler.

Officers completed their search of the premises and at this time arrest warrants are pending for one subject that resides at the above address. Police did not say if any of those involved in Saturday's incident were also being sought in connection with Tuesday's warrant search.

The stabbing on Oak Street was one of two incidents reported to police on Saturday.

In the first incident police responded to a call at 3:39 a.m. from Reeves County Hospital reporting a stabbing victim. Upon arrival officers spoke with Eliseo Lujan, who told officers that he had been in an altercation earlier with four unknown subjects.

Lujan reported that he was at his girlfriend's house located 202 S. Bois D'Arc St., when the four individuals entered the residence. An argument ensued, and during the altercation Lujan was stabbed on the right hand side of the chest. He was treated and released from RCH that night.

Also, police reports indicate that a truck that had been impounded by the police department had been stolen over the weekend. Officers responded to a call from Hector's Tire Service around 6 p.m. Saturday stating that a brown 1997 Ford extended cab pick-up had been stolen from the storage yard.

The vehicle was involved in a previous theft incident, and had been towed and stored according to police instruction. The vehicle was spotted in a gas drive off at an Odessa service station since it was reported stolen.

The vehicle's Texas license plates read are 836 X1K. Officers have suspects in the case.

Pecos Police Department Criminal Investigations Division captain, Kelly Davis added that none of the incidents are believed at this time to be gang related, nor are any of the incidents believed to be related to each other.

Band members get high scores at UIL event

Several members of the Pecos Eagle Band participated in UIL competition held recently in Monahans and brought home several honors. The ten band members competed in the UIL Region 6 Solo and Ensemble Contest, with eight receiving Superior ratings and the lowest rating received was a second division rating of Excellent.

"Medals are nice," said Pecos Eagle Band Director Merle Lenfest, "However, the real goal of all of our competitions is to improve our abilities."

Lenfest said that he would like to thank all of these students for their effort no matter what the final rating was. "Their work has improved their abilities and our band," he said.

According to Lenfest, senior Isidro Renteria received a Division 1 rating for Class 1 Clarinet Quartet; senior Ramiro Pando received a Division 1 rating for Class 1 Percussion Solo; and senior Donald Walker received Division 1 ratings for Class 1 Clarinet Quartet and Clarinet Solo performances. The others receiving Division 1 ratings for Class 1 performances were sophomores Ramiro Guerra and Carlos Salgado in Clarinet Quartet; and sophomores Stephanie Ornelas and William Moody and freshman Francisco Ornelas in Trombone Trio.

Receiving Division 2 ratings for Class 3 performances were two other freshmen, Brittany Casteneda and Kathryn Ornelas, both for flute solos.

Lenfest said Solo & Ensemble selections are classified in three levels of difficulty by the UIL, with Class 3 selections are the easiest, Class 2 selections are harder, and Class 1 selections are the hardest. He added that the judges use five ratings categories to classify each performance. First Division is Superior, Second Division is Excellent, Third Division is Average, Fourth Division is Below Average and Fifth Division is Poor.

A Superior rating on a class one selection qualifies the student to compete in the State Solo & Ensemble Contest. The students with superior ratings will represent Pecos at the State Solo & Ensemble Contest on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, May 29 or 31.
