Area children compete in local golf tourney
By CHRISTOPHER NAVARETTE

Twenty area children participated in a golf tournament Wednesday at the Reeves County Golf Course.
The children were competing in the Pecos edition of the West Texas Junior Champions Golf Tour - a group organized to, “promote the attainment of higher education goals,” according to Tour Director Steve Alexander.
The Tour first came to Pecos in 2000 and has stopped here every summer since.
The tour is divided by age and sex. Boys and girls 6-8 years old compete against each other. After age eight, boys are divided into separate flights of ages 9-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18. Girls are divided into flights of ages 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18.
“I really enjoy coming to Pecos,” Alexander said. “Every year we have a great turnout and everyone is very friendly.”
Alexander says people are often surprised that the tour stops in Pecos. “They didn’t even think grass would grow in West Texas,” he said.
Kids from all over the region were in Pecos Wednesday to compete, including children from Alpine, Monahans, Ft. Stockton, Ft. Davis, Midland, Snyder, Kermit, Wink and Comstock.
