Coaching vacancies for the Pecos Eagles at the high school and junior
high level have mostly been filled for the 1996-97 school year,
following Tuesday's meeting of the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD board.
School board members filled the remaining vacancies at the high school
varsity level with the appointment of Faustino (J.R.) Torres as the new
Pecos Eagles tennis coach. He replaces Greg Howard, who resigned to take
a similar position in Dripping Springs, outside of Austin.
P-B-T athletic director Mike Belew is still looking to find a new
junior high tennis coach to replace Howard's brother, Pat, who resigned
to take the varsity tennis coach's job at Junction.
Two other junior high coaches were approved by the school board on
Tuesday, and one Brannon Jackson, will also serve as high school varsity
cross country coach as well as an assistant coach at Crockett Eighth
Grade Middle School.
The other appointment on Tuesday was Darrel Ericson, who'll serve as
junior high coach at Crockett Eighth Grade Middle School. Current
seventh grade girls' coach Lily Talamantez, meanwhile, will move over to
serve as assistant varsity coach at the high school level, replacing
Patty Hall, who was promoted to new PHS girls varsity basketball coach
in late June by Belew.
