| Daily Newspaper and Travel Guide for Pecos Country of West Texas Lifestyle Friday, October 22, 1999 Borrego named to Dean's List Linda Borrego, Pecos, was named to the spring semester Dean's List at Sul Ross State University. Borrego compiled a 4.0 grade point average. Over 260 students were named to the spring semester Dean's List. Undergraduate students enrolled for 12 or more semester hours who maintain a grade point average of 3.3 or better are eligible for the Dean's List. Graduate hours are not included in Dean's List computations. Booster club plans meeting The Pecos Athletic Booster Club will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25, in the Pecos High School Cafeteria. New members are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend. Rett syndrome found The discovery of the defective gene that causes Rett syndrome could help researchers develop a test to diagnose the disorder earlier. Dr. Huda Y. Zoghbi of Houston's Baylor College of Medicine and Dr. Uta Francke of Stanford University School of Medicine collaborated for the past five years to find the gene. They traced the cause of Rett syndrome to a defect on the MECP2 gene on the X chromosome. Rett syndrome is a neuro-developmental disorder that affects one in 10,000 girls.
