Guzman's tell of new daughter

Former Pecos residents, Lorenzo and Dolores Guzman, now of Hobbs, N.M., proudly announce the birth of their daughter and fifth child, Claudia Ann Guzman.

The baby girl was born Saturday, Sept. 11, at 9:07 p.m. at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Maternal grandmother is Elisa Maldonado, paternal grandmother is Amelia Guzman, both of Pecos.

She was greeted home by her two brothers, Lorenzo and Elias and two sisters, Olivia and Victoria.

Long siblings earn awards at competition

Guthrie and Dakota Long are members of the Pro Youth Rodeo Association. They were in Stephenville, Tx. For the Pro-Youth finals.

Guthrie rides in the 9-10 steer riding and Dakota rides in the 5 and under barrel racing.

Guthrie was named the 1999 Steer Riding Champion. He was awarded several prizes which includes: a saddle, gold and silver watch band, Pro-Youth sunglasses, a certificate from Wrangler, and two checks. HE won both rounds of the steer riding and was also the average winner.

Dakota was awarded a gold and black belt buckle. Guthrie is sponsored by Thomas Taylor, "Taylor Made Bucking Bulls," of Odessa.

Guthrie and Dakota are the children of Curt and Laurie Long of Pecos and were supported by their two sisters, Brittany and Sierra.

Grandparents are James and Billie Sharp of Kermit and Gwyn and Janis Long of Spur.

Great-grandparents are T.L. Long of Jayton, Tx., Violet Rhone of Bowie, Tx., and Mrs. J.E. Sharp of Kermit.

Books to be given away

Friends of the Library will be sponsoring chances to win, World War II, 32 volumes and/or The Civil War, 28 volumes.

The drawing will be held Dec. 12 and tickets can be purchased the Reeves County Library, 505 S. Park.

The books were donated by the family of Betty Hinkle, deceased.
