Senior League All-Stars rout Western
BIG LAKE, July 2, 1999 -- The Pecos Senior League All-Stars' rematch
with San Angelo Western wasn't much of a contest at all on Thursday night
in Big Lake, as Pecos opened District 4 Tournament play with a five inning,
15-1 victory over San Angelo.
Western came back last year after a loss to Pecos to beat the Senior
Leaguers twice to win the District 4 title. This time, Pecos jumped out
to a 5-0 lead after one inning and added three more in the second to give
pitcher Angel Villalobos all the run support he would need.
Villalobos allowed only a single run in the third inning, after walking
the bases loaded. But center fielder Paul Juarez was able to cut down a
second San Angelo run at home plate, ending the threat.
Pecos also benefited from walks, and got a pair of RBI hits from Sebero
Jaquez and an RBI hit from Benny Juarez in advancing to a 6 p.m. Saturday
game against Ballinger, which won by forfeit over San Angelo Northern.
Pecos' Junior League All Stars will also be at home against Ballinger
on Saturday, with one team playing at Maxey Park and the other playing
at the Pecos High School baseball field.
Tonight at 6 p.m., Pecos' 11-12 Little League All-Stars host either
Sonora or Ballinger in their tournament opener, while the 9-10 year olds
will play their opener on Saturday in Crane, against the winner of this
evening's San Angelo Southern-San Angelo Northern game. No score was available
on the Sonora-Ballinger game.
BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN
Otey McCloy of Licking, Mo., takes a delayed ride on `Joker' during saddle
bronc competition on Thursday. Joker's problems out of the chute gave McCloy
a re-ride, and he would get another after his second ride ended with the
horse falling down. He wound up scoring 69 points on his third attempt.
