Yankee domination continues

BY SMOKEY BRIGGS
Staff Writer

The one-game playoff is over, and the Yankees are the Pecos Little League Champions in the "A" Team bracket.

The Yankees beat the Dodgers last night in a one-run squeaker that could have been a replay of either of the teams' two regular season matchups.

Since the two teams split their regular season games and each team went 8-2 in the regular season a playoff game was required to determine this year's champion.

"Each game between these two teams was a great game," Dodgers manager Frank Paz said. "One run was the difference in each game we've played and one of the regular season games went in to extra innings."

The championship game almost required extra innings.

The game was tied at four-all in the bottom of the sixth before the Yanks managed to score the winning run.

At this level, the sixth inning is the final inning of regulation play.

For Yankee coaches Jimmy Juarez and Ricky Natividad, the victory was a nice way to end their little league coaching careers.

Juarez and Natifidad have been coaching together for nine years and are calling in quits after this season.

"It was a great game," Juarez said. "I'm really proud of our players. They played hard and never gave up. They are a great team," he said.

For the Dodgers coaching staff, the regular season may be over but their coaching duties will continue into the summer July.

The Dodger staff of Paz, Pete Garcia and Rene Reyes was also selected to coach this years all-star team in the A-Team division.

There are three classifications in little league divided by age.

A-Team includes 11 and 12-year-olds, B-Team 9 and 10 year-olds, and C-Team includes the kids younger than 9.
