Thomasson named scholar

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Jessica Thomasson,
from Pecos, has been named an All-American Scholar.

The USAA has established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer
deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines.
The All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3, or higher, grade point average.
Only scholars selected by a school instructor, counselor, or other qualified
sponsor are accepted. These scholars are also eligible for other awards
given by the USAA.

Thomasson, who attends Zavala Middle School, was nominated for this
national award by Michelle Workman.

She will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published
nationally.

"Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before
in America's history. Certainly, winners of the All-American Scholar Awards
should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence
and achievement," said Dr. George Stevens, Executive Director of the United
States Achievement Academy.

The Academy selects All-American Scholars upon the exclusive recommendation
by teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors. Once awarded,
the students my be recognized by the USSA for other honors.

Thomasson is the daughter of Gary and Cindy Thomasson of Pecos.

The grandparents are Kenneth and Marlene Hampton of Pecos and Ray and
Etta Trammell of Grandbury.
 

Pugh, Palumbo announce August wedding plans

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Weldon Pugh of Greenville announce the engagement of their daughter, Leslie Denise, to Lewis Charles Joseph Palumbo, son of Mrs. William George Harrington of Corinth and Lewis Anthony Palumbo of Fairfax, Va.

The couple will wed at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 14, in East Dallas Christian Church in Dallas.

The bride-elect graduated from Texas Tech University in 1994 with a bachelor of science degree in restaurant, hotel and institutional management. She is a sales manager for Crowne Plaza Hotels in Atlanta, Ga.

She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Wanda Hughes and the late Crawford Hughes of Pecos.

Palumbo graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1991 with a bachelor of business administration in marketing. He is a senior sales representative for Nokia Mobile Phones in Atlanta.

Northside Swimming Pool sets hours

The Northside Swimming Pool will be open on Tuesday, June 1 and hours will be from 2-6 p.m. The pool will be open six days a week, and will be closed on Mondays.

Admission will be 75 cents for children 12 and under and $1 for anyone 13 and over. For party reservations call the recreation office at 447-9776.
