Workmans net college degrees
Commencement exercises held on Saturday, May 15, were announced by the
President and Faculty of Sul Ross State University for Michael Joseph Workman.
Workman received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology.
At Texas A&M University commencement exercises were held and Jerry
Samuel Workman Jr. was one of the graduates.
Workman Jr. earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences Degree.
Both were Pecos High School graduates and are the sons of Jerry and
Emma Workman.
Jones receives service scholarship
Crystal Jones, daughter of Kathy Herod of Pflugerville and granddaughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Herod, of Pecos, recently received the KVUE 24 5-Kids-Who-Care
Community Service Scholarship.
Crystal was nominated for her community service work at Pflugerville
Middle School, where she volunteers as a student teacher, teaching Spanish
speaking students English as a second language. She will receive her award
on ABC affiliate Channel 24 on April 5, in a live broadcast at 7-8 p.m.
Jones is a senior at John B. Connally HIgh School in Austin. She is
ranked in the top ten percent of her graduating class. She is head cheerleader
of the Varsity Cheerleading squad, Secretary of the National Honor Society,
member of Student Council, Chairperson of the Senior Prom, Who's Who Among
High School Students, Reporter for the School newspaper, "The Connally
Connection," Student Reporter for the local newspaper, "The Villager" where
she writes a column for Connally High School. She is also a member of the
U.I.L. Accounting team and newspaper team for Connally. She recently placed
third in Headline Writing at a local U.I.L. practice meet which qualified
her for State U.I.L. Meet in April.
Jones is a two-time UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) All Star,
and also NCA (National Cheerleaders Association) All American Cheerleader.
She participated during the Thanksgiving Holidays in the Hollywood Christmas
Parade in Hollywood, Calif. She received a recommendation during cheerleading
champ to try out for an instructor position with UCA.
When asked what volunteering means to her? Jones said if you have not
learned to give, you have yet to live. Her community service volunteerism
includes Pflugerville Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, Pop Warner Cheerleading,
Brown Santa, D.A.R.E. speaker for elementary schools, Mentor for students
at Northwest Elementary And Pflugerville Middle School, Teaching computer
skills for Austin Eastside Story.
Jones will graduate in May. Universities interested in her attendance
include: Baylor University, Southwest Texas State University, Clark-Atlanta
University, Howard University and Florida A&M University.
Kinseys tell of new daughter
Cody and Molly Kinsey are proud to announce the birth of their new daughter,
Morgan Emily Kinsey in Stephenville, Tx.
Little Morgan was born April 30, and weighed three pounds, 15 ounces
and was 18 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Kathy Moore of Shawnee, Okla. and Barron Moore
of Odessa.
Paternal grandparents are Linday Kinsey of Morgan Mill, Tx. and Lynn
Kinsey, also of Morgan Mill.
Maternal great-grandmother is Carrlen Smith and the late Warren Smith
of Shawnee and the late Mr. and Mrs. Balmore of Balmorhea.
