Rodriguez joins U.S. Air Force

Andrew M. Rodriguez, son of Oscar and Stella Rodriguez of Pecos, entered active duty in the U.S. Air Force on April 28, according to SSgt. Escobedo, Air Force Recruiter.

Rodriguez is a graduate of Pecos High School. Upon successfully completing the Air Force's six week basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, he is scheduled to receive technical training in the fire protection career field.

In conjunction with the vocational skill, he will be earning college credits towards an Associate Degree through the Community College of the Air Force while attending Basic and other Air Force technical training schools.

Sterling to graduate from Georgia college

Anika Roshawn Sterling, the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Saul Roquemore, will graduate from the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga., at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 8.

She will receive her B.S. Degree in Speech Communications.

On May 15, she will relocate to Chicago, Ill. to begin training with United Airline as an international flight attendant.

Sterling graduated from Central Gwinnett High School, Lawrenceville, in 1994. While in high school she was a cheerleader for three years, ran track for two years, and was a member of the Junior Beta Club and Interact.

Her senior year she was a member of the National Honor Society in Spanish and traveled to Spain with members of her Spanish class.

While growing up, Sterling attended Pecos Kindergarten and Bessie Haynes Elementary School. She alsp spent many summers in Pecos.

She is the daughter of Huntley and Fredria Sterling. Her mother, Fredria, grew up in Pecos, graduated from Pecos High School in May 1967 and Sul Ross State University in May 1971.

She was also employed with the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD for two years.
