Burkes celebrate 10th anniversary
Corby and Nancy Burke of Austin, formerly from Pecos, will be celebrating
their 10th Anniversary.
He is the son of Anna Burke of Pecos, and Nancy is the daughter of Esteban
and Virginia Barrera Sr. of Pecos.
A reception and dance will be held in Pecos, Saturday, May 1, at Saragosa
Hall in their honor.
Martinez named to list
High ranking students at Midland College for the 1998 fall semester have
been announced and Joel Martinez of Pecos was named to the President's
List.
To achieve ranking for the President's List, a student must earn a perfect
4.0 grade point average while taking a couse load of 12 credit hours or
more.
Balmorhea resident honored at SRSU
Balmorhea resident and Sul Ross State University senior Diana Keeper was
recently honored at two ceremonies at SRSU.
Keeper was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honor Society on Wednesday, April
14 at Kokernot Lodge in Alpine.
Alpha Chi is a national honor society with over 300 chapters nationwide.
Distinguished alumni of Alpha Chi include newsman Dan Rather of CBS news.
A student must be in the top ten percent of their class and maintain a
minimum grade point average of 3.3 to be eligible for membership in Alpha
Chi.
Keeper was also honored at the annual SRSU convocation held on April
19, at the Marshall Auditorium. Keeper was chosen the Outstanding English
major for 1999.
This award is voted on by the English Department faculty. Keeper received
a certificate, a cash award, and her name will appear in the offices of
the English Department at SRSU.
