Nichols celebrates fourth birthday at Maxey Park

Gabriana Faith Nichols celebrated her fourth birthday on March 20, at the Maxey Park.

The theme of the party was, "A Bug's Life."

Her sister Danielle, family and friends helped celebrate the occasion.

They were entertained with a jumping balloon and a "Bug's Life Pinata."

Her parents are Sonja Nichols and Jose Hernandez.

Her nana and papa are Carlos and Alicia Nichols, Jr. of Pecos.

Her paternal grandmother is Rosa Casteneda of Coyanosa.

Her great-grandparents are Carlos and Jesus Nichols, Sr., and Basilio and Epifania Mora, Sr.

Matthews named to Dean's list

Shawn LaNier Matthews of Pecos was named to the Dean's Honor Roll for the fall 1998 semester at Abilene Christian University.

Matthews is the son of John and Patricia Matthews and a 1998 graduate of Wink High School. He is a freshman management major at ACU.

To make the Honor Roll, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours for grades and earn a 3.45 or higher grade point average.

About 150 miles west of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, ACU is affiliated with the churches of Christ and has an enrollment of more than 4,600 students.

UTPB sponsors four-part series for new businesses

A four-part series on how to start a business will be offered through the Small Business Development Center at The University of Texas of Permian Basin.

The "Start Your Own Business" seminar series meets from 6-9 p.m., on April 6, April 8, April 13, and April 15 at the University's Center for Energy and Economic Diversifiction (CEED). The CEED facility is located at the intersection of Highway 191 and FM 1788 in Midland County.

Among the topics to be examined in the series are characteristics of an entrepreneur, business marketing, business plans, financial records, and legal structures.

Advanced registration is required due to limited seating.

Easter bake sale set

An Easter Bake Sale will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, Friday, April 2, at the Wal-Mart Parking Lot, 1903 S. Cedar.

The event, which is sponsored by the Pecos High School National Honor Society, will feature lots of home-baked goodies and easter specialties.
