Flying J offers scholarships

Flying J has announced its new College Scholarship Program.
Flying J will be awarding up to 100 scholarships of $2,000
each, in communities throughout the United States where
participating Flying J Travel Plaza are located. The Flying
J Travel Plaza at 100 E. Pinehurst, in Pecos, will be
sponsoring a scholarship for this community.

Flying J Inc., founded in 1968, is headquarters in Brigham
City, Utah and operates 117 Travel Plazas throughout the
United States and Canada. It is our desire to give something
back to communities that we serve and that support us. We
believe that educational scholarships are an ideal way for
us to play a part in making dreams come true for deserving
youth and that their education will ultimately benefit us
all and enrich the communities of which we are a part.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be high
school seniors attending school at one of the eligible area
high schools in a Flying J community (definition of
community is determined by Flying J Inc.) and plan to enroll
in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an
accredited two- or four-year college, university, or
vocational-technical school. Applicants must have a minimum
grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of
academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and
participation in school and community activities, honors,
work experience, a statement of educational and career goals
and an outside appraisal. Also, financial need must be
demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
Applications must be postmarked by March 15 and applicants
will be notified of results in May.

Seniors in the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD may contact their
principal or counselor for a Flying J Scholarship
application at the Pecos High School, 1201 S. Prak.
