Workman named to honor list


Lindley Workman, of Pecos, has been named to the President's
List at the University of North Texas in Denton for the 1998
Fall semester.

Only students who have earned a grade point average of 4.0
on a course load of 12 or more hours during the semester
were accorded this distinction.

Workman's name, along with those of other 4.0 honorees, will
be submitted to the National Dean's List, a publication
which recognizes outstanding academic achievements of
students throughout the United States.

Workmans is a communications major and the daughter of Emma
and Jerry Workman of Pecos.

Wilkinson arrives in Arabian Gulf


Marine Lance Cpl. Clifford R. Wilkinson, son of Bill L. and
Melody Wilkinson of Mentone, recently arrived on station in
the Arabian Gulf with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit
(MEU), embarked aboard the ships of the USS Boxer Amphibious
Ready Group (ARG).

The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit was quickly sent to the
Arabian Gulf to support the USS Enterprise Battle Group and
USS Belleau Wood ARG, which recently participated in
Operation Desert Fox, durig U.S. forces attacked military
targets in Iraq.

Pior to departing their home base of Camp Pendelton, Calif.,
in December. Wilkinson participated in a Pacific Joint Task
Force Exercise with more than 15,000 Sailors, Marines,
Airmen and Coastguardsmen in the Eastern Pacific Ocean to
test the ARGs ability to respond to situations they may
encounter during their six-month deployment.

Wilkinson's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with
the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations in
virtually any environment. MEU's are composed of more than
2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion,
an aircraft squadron, a support group and a command element.
With the combination of these teams, Wilkinson's unit
supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission
accomplishment or clearning the way for follow-on forces.

The 1997 graduate of Wink High School of Wink, joined the
Marine Corps in August 1997.
