Ontiveros has eighth birthday


Joseph Ontiveros celebrated his eighth birthday with a party held Sunday, Dec. 13 in his honor.

The party was held at the Ontiveros residence.

Theme for the party was Western Roundup. The kids enjoyed breaking a Western Boot Pinata.

His favorite gifts were the roping sets given to him by his parents Oscar and Nancy Ontiveros and his aunt Myra Bitolas.

Paternal grandmother is Rosa Ontiveros of Pecos.

Maternal grandmother is Christina Bitolas of Pecos.

Matthews inducted into Alpha Chi


Timothy B. Matthews, a Tarleton State University student from Pecos, was inducted this fall into the University's Texas Alpha Kappa Chapter of Alpha Chi, the national college honor scholarship society.

Matthews, a graduate of Pecos High School, is an Industrial Technology major at Tarleton. He is the husband of Paula Matthews and son of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Matthews.

Membership in Alpha Chi is limited to members of the junior and senior classes who excel academically. Grade point averages must be 3.60 or better. The objectives of Alpha Chi are to promote and to recognize superior scholarship and those elements of character that make for effective service. Founded in 1922, the society has more than 300
chapters in 45 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Alpha Chi represents the highest academic honor on any member campus and since its inception, over 255,000 students have been inducted.

The Texas Alpha Kappa Chapter at Tarleton was established in the fall of 1968. there are seven regions across the country and Tarleton's chapter is a member of Region I which includes parts of Texas and New Mexico.

Christmas party held at library


The Friends of the Library held their annual Christmas party at the Reeves County Library, Thursday, Dec. 10.

Santa was on hand and the many visitors enjoyed having photos made with him.

Amy Miller volunteered reading the children many Christmas stories. The Girl Scout Troop led by Linda Morgan from Troop 191 and Sylvia Lujan, Troop 388 served refreshments to all the guests, and later helped straighten out the library.

The Friends and the library staff thanks all who helped and all the guests for coming, especially Santa for his visit.
