Scott participates in special mission

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Wesley K. Scott, son of Barney
G. and Carolann Lee of Pecos, recently participated with
more than 15,000 Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coastguardsmen
in a pre-deployment exercise in the Eastern Pacific Ocean
while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson,
homeported in Bremerton, Wash.

The U.S. Navy Third Fleet exercise, Pacific Joint Task Force
Exercise, (PAC JTFEX), involved more than 15 shipes and
various types of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters from
the USS Carl Vinson Battle Group and USS Boxer Amphibious
Ready Group with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked.

U.S. Navy and Marine Corps forces were joined in the
exercise by Air Force, Army, National Guard and Coast Guard
units, as well as units from Canada and Japan.

PAC JTFEX was designed to evaluate and assess Scott's ship,
which is deploying in November to the Western Pacific Ocean
and the Persian Gulf. Scott's ship participated in real-time
war games against other U.S. forces and conducted extensive
damage control, communications and tactical warfare drills
in controlled battle group environments, with emphasis
placed on operational and material readiness.

The 1995 graduate of Wichita High School of Wichita, Kan.,
joined the Navy in August 1995.
