Estrada completes basic training
Airman Samantha Ann Estrada recently completed U.S. Navy
basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes,
Ill. She will now be stationed at Norfolk, VA.
During the eight-week program, Estrada completed a variety
of training which included classroom study, practical
instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting,
water safety and survival, shipboard and aircraft safety,
and physical program. Also received was instruction on the
Navy's care values - Honor, Courage, and Commitment, and how
to apply them in their military performance and personal
Estrada joins 555,000 men and women who enter the Navy this
year from all over the country. They train together at basic
just as they do aboard ships and at shore commands around
the world. To reinforce team concepts all recruits are
trained in preventing sexual harassment and ensuring equal
opportunity. Highly motivated young people like Estrada
strive for the opportunity to improve their education and
knowledge as they become part of the most highly technical
naval force in history.
This year alone, the Navy will have more than 57,000 job
openings and opportunities including guaranteed training.
Airman Estrada is the daughter of the late deputy sheriff
Floyd Estrada Jr. of Saragosa and Mary Alice Rael of
Amarillo. She is a 1997 graduate of Whiteface High School.
