Reports from the Oasis of West Texas

Clark Kent Irving, Assistant Secretary of State for the
State of Texas visited with Balmorhea student body Thursday
morning. He talked to the students about the importance of
exercising their right to vote. Irving pointed out how one
vote can make a difference, such as Hitler was elected by
one vote, Texas became a State by one vote and English won
over German as our common language by one vote.

The Junior Class is having an enchilda dinner on Sunday
October 11th. It will be dine in the cafeteria or carry out.
The price is $3.75 and you can contact any junior class
member for a ticket.

The Cross Country High School team competed in Big Spring on
Sept. 12. The following are results from that meet. Celina
Rodriguez ran a 18:32 for 68th place out of 98 runners. In
boys division Manny Mendoza ran a 18:34 for 3rd place out of
52 runners. Kevin Rodriguez ran 20:10 for 11th, Jerry
Mendoza ran a 21:38 for 29th place and Danny Guebara ran a
27:02 for 49th place. All top fifteen places recieved a
medal.

In Iraan on Oct. 3 it was a Jr. High and High School meet.
Here are the results from Iraan. Junior High Girls--Deliah
Nunez ran a 16:25 for 11th place out of 31 runners. Junior
High Boys-- Jourmain Matta ran a 17:12 for 18th place out of
24 runners. High School Boys Division had 46 runners. Manny
Mendoza ran a 18:35 for 2nd place, Rudy Guebara ran a 19:25
for 10th place and Danny Guebara ran a 26:55 for 43rd place.
Again the top 15 recieved medals.

The next meet will be in Ozona on October 10th.

Bears Cub team faced Sierra Blanca Vaqueros on Thursday
night and once again came away the victors. The score was
32-26.Outstanding players of the game were Reed Davis, Hugo
Rodriguez and Aaron Tarin. The cubs will go up against the
Grandfalls Cowboys next Thursday night. Everyone needs to
come out and watch the efforts these young players are
putting forth.

The Junior Varsity squad took on the Cowboys from Grandfalls
on Thursday night also. They pulled out a win with a score
of 64-54. Outstanding players of the game were Isiah
Rodriguez, Billy Lozano and Rudy Guebara.

The Bears are open this week but will take on Dell City at
7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 here on their home turf. Let's all come
out and show our support.

Girls Volleyball lost a close match to Buena Vista on
Tuesday night in their district opener. The scores were
15-7, 6-15, & 13-15. Junior High girls also lost to Buena
Vista. Next game will be Saturday in Wink against the
Wildcats at 4 p.m. The girls need all of us out there
yelling for them, so be there!

Reports cards were mailed out on Friday, Oct. 2. All
parents should have recieved them by now.
