Griffis earns nursing degree


Laura Lynn Griffis of Eugene, Ore., has received her degree
in Nursing and is now an R.N. employed in the ICU Unit of
Scared Heart Hospital in Eugene.

She is the daughter of Jerry Griffis of Fort Davis and the
granddaughter of John A. and Clara Griffis of Pecos.

Reeves County Community Council Meals on Wheels Program is
seeking volunteers in the Balmorhea/Saragosa area to help
deliver meals to thier clients in this area. They are
currently serving five in Saragosa and 18 in Balmorhea.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Mercedes
Mondragon at 375-2358 or Hilda at 445-2054 or go by the
multi-purpose building in Saragosa.

Balmorhea Chamber of Commerce held a meeting Thursday night
and elected officers to serve until Jan. 1, 1999. Officers
are as follows: Pat Baijalba-President, Ellen Weinacht-Vice
President, Deliah Rodriguez-Secretary and Pat
Brown-Treasurer. The next meeting will be at 4 p.m., Oct.
12. Anyone interested is invited to come.

The Wellness Program is up and going again this year. It is
for adults only to come to the school gym and work in the
weight room, play games in the gym or join the aerobics
class. Anyone interested in the aerobics class can contact
Ellen Weinacht at 375-2325. The Wellness Program times are
Monday 8-9 p.m., Wednesday 7-9 p.m., Saturaday 6-8 p.m., and
Sunday 4-6 p.m.

On Sept. 29, Cub Scout Pack #92 awarded some of it's
members their badges. BobCat Badges earned by Austin Vernon
and Tyler Hebbert. Wolf Badges earned by Rodney Fuentes,
Dusty Scudday and Russell Garlick. Shaun Baeza, Jose
Rodriguez, Oran Jones, Benjamin Orozco, Michael Hernandez,
Ryan Woodruff and Johnathon Rameriz recieved their Bear
Badges. Golden Arrow Points were awarded to Benjamin Orozco,
Oran Jones, Jose Rodriguez, Shaun Baeza, Russell Garlick,
Dusty Scudday and Rodney Fuentes. Congratulations to all
these scouts!

The Junior High Bear Cubs ran over the Marathon Mustangs on
Thursday night with a score of 51-7. These players will
someday be our shining stars on the varsity team if they
keep up the the team work. The Cubs will take on the Sierra
Blanca Vaqueros on Oct. 8 in Balmorhea. Go Cubs!

The Bears travelled to Grandfalls Friday to take on the
Cowboys. This was their first district game.

Volleyball Teams will travel to Buena Vista for their first
district game on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Coach Meredith says that
if the girls keep their minds in the game they should easily
beat the Buena Vista teams. We need all parents to attend
these games and support our girls!!
