Libbie speaks to Pecos BPW club

The Pecos Business and Professional women's Club, Inc., met
Sept. 22, at the Quality Inn for a noon luncheon and program
meeting.

Dr. John C. Libbie, Podiatric Physician and Surgeon, was the
guest speaker. Dr. Libbie spoke first about ways to combat
the trash that litters the community. He commented that
Pecos has a community wide problem with trash-litter and
that it builds on itself like graffiti.

His solution to the problem of litter is education. He
suggests:

* Businesses should have a trash can at their front entrance
and people doing business with them could pick up any trash
laying around and deposit it into the can.

* Patrons should compliment businesses that have clean
entrances to their establishment.

* Youth and adults should be encouraged to participate in
"Earth Day."

* We should support law enforcement officials trying to
solve the litter problem.

Dr. Libbie also spoke on common foot problems, his
specialty, and their common causes.

"We rotate our tires every 10,000-20,000 miles," said
Libbie. "We change our oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. Yet, we
seldom have our feet professionally inspected," he said.

"Often, a brief professional evaluation by a podiatrist can
prevent a small problem from becoming painful or serious. An
annual evaluation is recommended for most people," said
Libbie. "People with diabetes or poor circulation should be
seen very two to six months, depending on their medical
condition," he said.

Other guests were Lydia Prieto, Dr. Libbie's wife, Anita,
and her mother, Mary Lou Heck.

Gail Norris was welcomed as a new member.
