Former Pecosite enjoys web page
Jess Miramontes has traveled the world since graduating from
Pecos High School in 1984, and he's now an engineer for Ford
Motor Company in Dearborn, Mich.
In between, the Pecos native served in the Navy, earned a
degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University
in Lubbock and worked as project engineer with Amoco Corp.
in Houston.
While in the Navy, Miramontes served in several locations.
He attended boot camp in San Diego, Calif. and received his
first assignment to Naval Air Station Millington, Tenn.,
where he completed several schools in basic electricity
theory and aviation electronics.
After graduation, he was stationed in Naval Air Station
Whidbey Island, which is located in Puget Sound. Puget Sound
is the area that surrounds the city of Seattle, Wash.
"After a few more months of training in aircraft systems, I
was assigned to VAQ-132, an aircraft squadron that operates
the EA-6B Prowler, which is an electronic countermeasures
aircraft," Miramontes said. "I served aboard two aircraft
carriers, the USS Forrestal and the USS Saratoga. After six
years, I left the military."
He spent five years at Tech before joining Amoco Corporation
in Houston.
"My stay was short," he said. "After some careful
consideration, I determined that "boiling oil" was not the
ticket for me." That's when he left Texas for Michigan and
Ford Motor Company.
Miramontes recently discovered the Pecos Enterprise web
pages on the Internet and enjoys keeping up with people back
home.
