BPW holds first meeting of they year


Members of the Pecos Business and Professional Women's Club
met Aug. 27, after a summer break of three months, for an
ice cream social in the home of Catherine Travland.

President Lucila Valenzuela presided over the meeting and
the following changes, proposed by the executive committee,
were adopted: meetings will be at noon and will be Dutch
treat, unless notified otherwise; all meetings to be at the
Quality Inn Restaurant, unless otherwise notified; there
will be two meetings a month; second and fourth Tuesdays;
the first meeting of the month will be an executive meeting
where the club's business will be taken care of and the
second meeting will be a program meeting with a speaker.

Officers for the 1998-99 club year are: president, Lucila
Valenzuela; vice president, Gretchen Luna; secretary, Kathy
Hurley and treasurer, Nell Maddux.

The executive committee was hostesses for the social. Anyone
interested in visiting or joining Pecos BPW is welcome.

Hernandez named officer of month


Jose Hernandez has been selected as Correctional Officer of
the Month for August.

Hernandez has been employed at the Reeves County Detention
Center since October 27, 1993. He is a very efficient,
dependable and proficient Correctional Officer that can work
any post at this institution.

Hernandez performs all his assignments in an exceptional
manner. He suggests methods to improve the handling of
equipment, recognizes potential security hazards. He is very
aware of the need to control the flow of contraband and
conducts shakedowns in other than normal situations.

"Mr. Hernandez works very hard to achieve his goals. He
conducts himself in a professional manner and displays
unlimited potential for a very successful career with Reeves
County Detention Center," said Warden Rudy Franco.
