Tavarez studies as lab technician


Gabriel G. Tavarez graduated from Odessa College with a
major in clinical laboratory science.

He will continue his studies for lab technician.

Tavarez is a 1994 Pecos High School graduate and the son of
Pete and Benita Tavarez.

Salas selected as employee of month


Ruben Salas has been selected as Employee of the Month for
May at the Reeves County Detention Center.

He has been working for the detention center since Feb. 8,
1996.

Salas as a Recreation Officer performs a multitude of
duties, one being a maintenance officer, while using his
welding skills, he designed and built four drinking water
troughs for inmate use saving the institution over $1,000 on
each if bought commercially.

"His dedication, loyalty, work ethics and contribution to
the institution is appreciated by the Adminstration at the
Reeves County Detention Center," said RCDC Warden Rudy
Franco.

Dominguez earns degree from OC


The Honorable Robert L. Duncan, State Senator, gave the
commencement address at Odessa College's spring semester
graduation held Friday, May 15.

Nearly 250 students received associate degrees at the
graduation ceremony held in the Odessa College Sports Center.

Among the graduates was Pecos resident Melba Ann Dominguez,
A.A., general studies.

Senator Duncan, who first served in the Texas Legislatured
in 1993 as a member of the House of Representatives for
District 84, was elected to the State Senate in December
1997 in a special election. As the Senator for District 28,
he serves 500,000 constituents in West Texas. The 28th
Senatorial District covers 26 West Texas counties including
the communities of Lubbock, Big Spring, parts of Ector
County, El Paso and San Angelo. Senator Duncan serves on the
State Affairs and Gangs and Juvenile Justice legislative
committees, among others.

He is a 1976 graduate of Texas Tech University and a 1981
graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law.
