Marquez nets scholarship


Lorie Marquez, a Pecos High School senior, has been awarded
a scholarship from the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Neb.

This award is renewable for all four years of study as long
as Marquez maintains a good academic standing while enrolled
as a full-time student at CSM.

Beginning fall of 1998 she will receive $4,000, for each of
the four years, with the total being $16,000.

College of Saint Mary is committed to providing sufficient
financial aid for all students.

She is the daughter of Danny and MaryLou Marquez of Pecos.

New officers chosen


Outgoing Twentieth Century Club president Melissa Box
conducted installation of officers at the April 22 club
meeting. New officers are parliamentarian Pat Hubbs,
treasurer Lynn Fowler, corresponding secretary Rachel Tarin,
club secretary Amy Miller, second vice president Carol
Fowlkes, first vice president Leslie Graham and president
Melissa Grote. Not pictured is press reporter Tracy Shaw.

Veterans meet


New officers were elected for the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Baker-Curtis Post #6437. Elected include the new commander
J.T. Marsh of Toyah. Other members are Joe Morales, Hiram
Luna, Billy Malone, Melvin (Yank) Estey, Danny Henry of
Odessa.
