UTPB plans science fair


More than 500 entries are expected in the annual Permian
Basin Regional Science Fair on Saturday, March 28, at The
University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

Judging takes place from 9:30 a.m. until noon in the UTPB
Gymnasium. Exhibits will be open for public viewing from
1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 2:30
p.m. in the Nimitz Junior High School Auditorium.

Competition is divided into two groups - the junior division
which includes grades three through eight, and the senior
division which includes grades nine through 12. Two entrants
from the senior division will advance to the Intel
International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in
Fort Worth, May 10-16.

Projects are selected in a variety of categories and levels
to receive special awards, including UTPB scholarships.

Arts festival set in Odessa


The second annual Festival of the Arts showcasing the
talents of Odessa College students and facultry is scheduled
to run April 4-May 8 on the OC campus.

The festival will begin with a musical revue of favorite
songs from the last 100 years performed by the Odessa
College Vocal Ensemble and Choir beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 4, in Deadrick Auditorium. Cost to attend
the concert, "One Hundred Years of Broadway," is adults, $5;
senior citizens, $4 and children $3. OC employees and
students with OC ID may attend free.

The photography and art departments will have an open house
catered by culinary arts at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in
Sedate Hall. Demonstrations will be given on computer
graphics and "How to Make Copies of Slides of Your Work."
Visitors may tour the photography facilities and attend a
pottery sale.

The OC Concert Band will present a concert at 8 p.m. Friday,
April 17, in Deadrick Auditorium. The program, "All American
All the Time," will celebrate the history of music in
America and feature many different styles of American music.
The concert will end on a patriotic note and feature
multimedia.

Participating in the concert will be solo trumpeter Staff
Sgt. Susan Rider, U.S. Marine Corps Band, is a former member
of the OC Concert Band and past Midland-Odessa Symphony
principal trumpeter.

Several celebrate birthday


Several individuals were on hand to celebrate their
birthdays with cake and all the trimmings at the Pecos
Senior Center. Birthday people for March include, Darrell
Grogan, Cora Moody, Erline Kelly, Hazel Barmore and Marvin
Frazier.

Best attendance class named


Alice Wein's fourth grade class at Bessie Haynes Elementary
School was noted for having the best attendance for the
fourth six weeks of school. The class had a 98.48 attendance
average.
