St. Clair helps during Olympics

Jess and Jean Bush are proud of their grandson, Christopher
St. Clair, whose work paved the way for American athletes
and visitors at the Winter Olympics in Japan.

St. Clair teaches Japanese at three El Paso schools.
Preparing 2,000 volunteers for the Olympics, he taught
English in Nagano, Japan from 1992 to 1995.

He was part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching program,
which is an international exchange program that brings in
teachers to teach English in Japanese schools.

Not only did St. Clair teach English, he taught important
aspects of American culture. He gave the volunteers the
chance to practice their English before the crowds arrived.
Some of them worked in translating, others took tickets,
operated concessions or were involved in transportation.

Bush said his 28-year-old grandson is proud to have been
part of the Olympics and he uses that experience in teaching
Japanese in El Paso.

He went back to Japan last year, where he took videos and
photos to show his students back home and to market the
Japanese program in local schools.

St. Clair is the oldest of Sharon Bush St. Clair's three
sons. Sharon, who graduated from Pecos High School in the
early 1960s, lives in Abilene, where she is clinic
coordinator for the Texas State Hospital.

Bush invited St. Clair to speak at the Pecos Downtown Lions
Club noon luncheon on Dec. 3, and reports the members
listened attentively and asked questions about his work in
Japan.
