Smith gets degree from SWTSU

Lana Smith, daughter of James P. and Barbara Smith, was
recently graduated from SWTSU at San Marcos.

She majored in Spanish, and international business.

Smith was a 1992 graduate of Pecos High School. She is
currently employed at KTMD-TV in Houston.

Baeza's tell of new daughter

Ruben and Mickie Baeza, of Pecos, announce the birth of
their daughter, Monica Daisy Baeza.

Little Monica was born Sunday, Dec. 7, Reeves County
Hospital.

She weighed seven pounds and 10 ounces at birth.

She was welcomed home by her brother, Ruben James.

Paternal grandparents are Ruben and Delilah Baeza of Pecos.

Maternal grandparents are Candelaria and Frank Ornelas of
Pecos.

Natividad has first birthday

Cheyenne C. Natividad celebrated her first birthday,
Saturday, with a party given in her honor. Her birth date is
Dec. 10.

The party was held at her aunt's home, Gina Martinez, and
was attended by many friends and family.

She is the daughter of Cheyenne and Lori Natividad.

Paternal grandparents are Augustin and Laura Natividad.

Maternal grandparents are Jesus and Anna Candia.

Hardwick has third birthday

Michael Duane Hardwick celebrated his third birthday with a
party held in his honor.

The theme for the event was "Thomas the Tank." A Thomas the
Tank Pinata was part of the celebration.

Cake, punch and other refreshments were served to the guests.

Many friends and family were on hand for the celebration.

Michael is the son of Myra Bitolas and Jerry Hardwick of
Pecos.

Maternal grandmother is Christina Bitolas, of Pecos.

Paternal grandmother is Pat Hardwick of Midland.

Youth leads service at church

Youth and children of First United Methodist Church of Pecos
led the morning worship services on Dec. 7 and Dec. 14.

Dec. 7 was Youth Sunday, an annual event started last year
by the church youth group. Highlights of the worship service
included, "Angels We Have Heard On High," played by youth
director Brenda Evins. The morning message was a selection
called "I Like Christmas," read by Kelsey McKinnon and
Ashley Horsburgh. Other youth served as ushers, acolytes and
special readers.

The youth choir and children's choir provided the Christmas
program during worship services Dec. 14. The program was a
re-enactment of the nativity, as told in Matthew. Choir
director Terri Spence led the program.

"Actors" included Justin Owen as Joseph; Katherine Tipton as
Mary; Jake Weinacht, Will Oglesby and Matthew Oglesby as the
Three Wise Men; Kelsey McKinnon, Jessica Burner, Carly
Stroud, Lindsey Shaw, Conner Armstrong, Jordan McNeil and
Kylie Owen as Angels; Ashley Horsburgh as the Bethlehem Star
and shepherds were Sara Cross, Claire Weinacht and Heath
Armstrong.

Co-directors for the program are Bethany Evins and Lara
Weinacht.

Also during the service, piano selections were played by
Kelsey McKinnon and Lindsey Shaw. Bethany Evins had a flute
solo. She and Lara Weinacht sang "Silent Night," while
Claire Weinacht "signed" the words to the song.

The adult choir of the church, directed by David Smith will
provide special music during worship Dec. 21.
