Chamber sets cleanup

MONAHANS, Apr. 10, 1997 - The Chamber of Commerce Clean-Up committee met
for a productive session last Friday. Committee members include Jack
Grant (president), James Bigham, Suzi Blair, Phillip Derrick, Lois
Grant, Shirley Hill (secretary) Cathy Jones, Sheri Lord, David Mills,
Cliff Stephens, Tammy Swigert, and Bill Welch.

Saturday, May 24th , will be the official day to "Paint-It, Clean-It,
and Fix-It Up" for Monahans. All residents are asked to take part in
helping spruce up Monahans not only on this day but, the entire month of
May (and the entire year!)

Grant and the committee have many plans to make this event a little
easier for the public. Initially, one of the ideas is to ask local
retailers to run specials (especially during May) on items such as paint
supplies, brooms, trash bags, and any other materials they feel may be
needed. Hopefully sales on clean-up supplies will be one way to
encourage full participation in the project.

Monahans residents are encouraged to paint, clean, and fix up their
properties durin addition, everyone throughout the county is encouraged
to ôjoin in the programö to make it cleaner for our entire area!.

Local organizations which have already united with the Chamber in
promoting the traditional ôpaint-it,-clean-it, fix-itö program include
Wednesday Study Club, Tau Lambda, and Monahans Main Street as well as
the Monahans Schools, City of Monahans, and Ward County. Many more
commitments are expected to follow. EVERYONE is needed for this project
to be successful.

The Chamber clean-up committee will continue to meet regularly, in the
Chamber board room, until this program is completed. The next scheduled
committee meeting is set April 15 at noon. A SPECIAL THANK-YOU to
Lowe's Marketplace for providing lunch for the committee.

Any group, organization, or individuals interested in helping please
call the Chamber office at 943-2187.

We are happy to inform you that your Chamber has made arrangements
with the Midland Angels to sponsor community night on Friday, April 25
at 7 p.m. The purpose is to foster community spirit and pride by hosting
a night at Christensen Stadium while watching the our only West Texas
baseball team.

Members of the Chamber were given the first opportunity to purchase
sponsor packets. The packets contain specially printed tickets to
distribute to customers, clients, family, friends, or fellow members of
clubs and organizations. A couple of packets are still available. If
you are interested in securing one of these remaining packets, just call
the Chamber (943-2187) for full details.

A few extra treats are also in store for all who attend. The Monahans
High School group ôSpecial Editionö directed by Ken Mills, will perform
the National Anthem to kick off the evening at the Midland stadium. And
not unlike the opening of the national season, acelebrity will throw
out the first bal. This particular celebrity will be from Monahans.

As an bonus, this Monahans evening is an ADULT T-SHIRT giveaway night.
The first 1,000 fans (with a ticket) age 13 and over, will receive a
