Rodriguez ends basic training

Army Pvt. Jesus Rodriguez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the nine-week training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

Rodriguez is the son of Bertha Rodriguez of Pecos. He is a 2001 graduate of a home school program in Pecos.

Abila makes Dean's List

Shirley Abila was nominated for the National Dean's List for 2002-2003.

The National Dean's List is the largest, most prestigious publication in the country dedicated to recognizing academic excellence among college students.

Each year, the deans, faculty members, and education professionals from over 2,500 colleges and universities select outstanding students for nominations to "the National Dean's List." This honor is reserved for only 1/2 of 1% of our nation's college students.

Shirley is the daughter of the late Alvaro Abila Sr. and Sofia Abila.

Abila will be graduating in August with L.V.N in nursing from Odessa College.

Sofia Abila, graduated on May 9, with an Associates of Art Degree in Education from Odessa College.

Lara selected for Dean's List

The following students have been named to the Spring 2003 Dean's List and Dean's Honor Roll at McMurry College.

To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking 12 or more credit hours. To be eligible for the Dean's Honor Roll, a student must complete 6-11 hours with at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Students qualifying for the Dean's List from Pecos is: Orlando Lara Jr., a junior student majoring in management.
