LL 11-12 team win; 9-10, JLs suffer defeats

The Pecos Little League All-Stars came away with a victory in their first round District 4 Tournament game Sunday night, while the Junior League All-Stars were beaten in their tournament opener and the 9-10 year old Little Leaguers were eliminated in their tournament on Saturday.

Pecos' 11-12 year olds used a 12-strikeout performance by Lucas Chavez to shut out San Angelo Western in their game at North Concho on Sunday, 6-0, while over at San Angelo Lake View, Western's 13-14 year olds had far better success against Pecos, as they routed the Junior Leaguers by a 16-4 final score. On Saturday, the 9-10 year olds were knocked out of the double-elimination tournament with their second straight loss, a 9-4 setback against San Angelo Northern.

Pecos scored single runs in the second and third innings of their win over Western, while Chavez got out of a couple of early jams, including a bases-loaded situation in the third while allowing six hits overall. Meanwhile, the Little Leaguers broke things open in the fifth with a four-run outburst against starter Tyler Jones.

Linvel Mosby III reached on an infield single and scored on a pair of errors on a Jonathan Dominguez fly ball. He came home on a single by Chavez, who earlier had an RBI double, to make it 4-0. After a by Timo Reyes, Jones came back to get a pair of strikeouts before Dane Daniel singled up the middle to drive home Pecos' final two runs.

The win puts the 11-12 year olds into a 10 a.m. game this coming Saturday at San Angelo Northern against Lake View or San Angelo Southern.

Details on the Junior League's loss to Western weren't available this morning, but the loss will put the 13-14 year olds into a loser's bracket game of the double elimination tournament on July 4.
