Golden Girl Nominee
Jessica Minjarez
Jessica M. Minjarez is the 17-year-old daughter of Jose and Diane Minjarez.
She is being sponsored by Edward Jones Investments, Trammell Construction
and Pecos Downtown Lions Club.
Miss Minjarez is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students
in sports and academics, a member of the Latin Club for three years and
has received the Outstanding Student Award for the 2002-2003 school year
in Crime in America. She was a 2000-2001 Junior Varsity Cheerleader, where
she received the Most Outstanding Newcomer Award, a varsity cheerleader
for three years, receiving the Best Stunt Team for the year 2001-2003. She
will be serving as Captain this upcoming year for the cheerleading squad,
is a member of the varsity swim team for three years, receiving the All
District, All Region, and All State all three years, while also setting
a new school record in the 400 Free Relay in 2003.
After high school graduation she plans to obtain a higher level of education
and major in accounting.
Miss Minjarez enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing
sports, shopping, dancing, eating, and listening to music.
"I have been very blessed to have been brought up with such a big family
that believes and encourages me to follow my dreams," said Minjarez. "The
prices of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination
that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the
task at hand," she said.
Jones graduates Summa Cum Laude
Crystal Jones, daughter of Kathy & Levi Randolph, of Austin, TX and
the granddaughter of Dorothy Herod and the late Jimmy Herod, of Pecos, TX.
graduated Summa Cum Laude (with highest distinction for attaining a cumulative
GPA of 3.80 or higher with no grade below "C") from Clark Atlanta University,
in Atlanta, Georgia on May 19, 2003. Ms. Jones received a Bachelors of
Arts degree in Mass Media Arts: Radio, TV & Film. She is a member of
Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society for Mass Media Arts majors, Golden Key International
Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars Honor Society
- an honors organization recognizing outstanding academic achievement among
college students and The National Dean's List an organization honoring
America's Outstanding College Students.
Ms. Jones was the recipient of the 2001-02 & 2002-03 Toyota Motor
Sales/United Negro College Fund (UNCF) scholarship for Clark Atlanta University
in the amount of $7,500 each year.
During her years at Clark Atlanta University, she made the Dean's list
each semester of her four years & maintained a 4.0 GPA for five consecutive
semesters. She was a four-year member of the Clark Atlanta University Cheerleading
squad; she was named "Best Newcomer" in her freshman year and served as
captain of the squad in her senior year. She was president of the Pan-Hellenic
Council at the Atlanta University Center. Ms. Jones is a member of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was crowned Miss Crimson & Crème
during the 2002 Homecoming festivities. Crystal served as Junior Class
President, a member of the Texas Club, the CAU Orientation Guide Corps.
serving as a campus tour guide, peer teaching assistant, and had her own
radio show on student radio station WSTU. She also appeared in the movie
"Drumline" which was filmed on the campus of Clark Atlanta University. She
had a small role as a cheerleader in the film.
Crystal is a 1999 graduate of John B. Connally High School in Pflugerville,
TX, where she graduated #10 in her class, received a full academic scholarship
to Clark Atlanta University. She was Miss CHS, Varsity Head Cheerleader,
National Honor Society secretary, Student Council vice president, and Hugh
O'Brien Youth Ambassador for CHS.
Crystal has accepted a position with the Atlanta Public School System
where she will be employed as an elementary school teacher while pursuing
her masters degree at Georgia State University.
