Hooper, Doughty marry in candlelight ceremony

Laura Hooper and Gavin Doughty were married on May 24, at Raveneaux Country Club in Houston.

Laura is the daughter of Michael and Becky Hooper of Houston, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Hooper of Pecos and Mr. and Mrs. William Hopper of Midland.

Gavin is the son of Brian Doughty of Seattle, Washington and Margaret Doughty of Houston. He is the grandson of Mrs. Edna Doughty and Mrs. Eileen Lewis of the United Kingdom. All grandparents of the couple attended the ceremony, making it a very special occasion.

The candlelight ceremony took place in the Oak Room of Raveneaux at 7 p.m. and was performed by Reverend Danny Carpenter. Candelabra adored with florals and giant urns filled with orchids, calla lilies and gladiola served as a backdrop for the double-ring ceremony. Classical musical selections were provided by Encore Strings with readings by Marie Hennebery, friend of the bride and groom. Katy Hooper of Houston served her sister as Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids were Barbara Gunnels of Houston and Jackie Bindley of Dallas. The attendants were attired in deep red gowns of individual design and carried calla lilies wrapped in satin with pearl accents. Jon and Scott Doughty, twin brothers of the groom, served Gavin as Best Men, and Christopher Dale was groomsman. Ushers were Ryan Leach and Adam Questell, all of Houston.

The bride, given in married by her father, wore a gown of deep candlelight by Audrey Hart Couture. The bodice was accented by strands of beading finished in a back of ribboned corset design flowing into an organza skirt and train. She wore a tiara of antique gold and crystal and a cathedral length veil accented by crystals. Laura carried a bouquet of cascading burgundy calla lilies accented by roses. She wore a Sixpence in each shoe, one a gift from the mother of the groom, one a gift of a family friend, Danna Beal.

Immediately following the ceremony, guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres of seafood canapés, a chocolate fountain and fresh fruit, and beverages in the Raveneaux Lounge.

The wedding party and guests then dined on a seated buffet dinner in the Oak Room. The room was adorned with ivory linens and gold overlays with chair covers and sashes in a matching design. Tables were accented by mirrored centerpieces and candles, gold chargers, and favors in ivory organza bags tied with ribbon.

The bridal cake was a three-tier confection of white cake and pineapple filling accented by ivory and gold roses, while the groom's tiered cake featured chocolate mousse layers accented by gold ribbons. Scott Bland, of DJ's Unlimited provided dinner and dancing music during the evening.

On May 3, a wedding shower was hosted by Danna Beal, Katie Jennings and Patricia Philley in Houston. On the eve of the wedding a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the family of the groom at County Line Bar-B-Que. A Bridal Brunch at Champps Americana was hosted by Cindy Alexander on the morning of the wedding.

Laura is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and is an actress in Houston, performing at various theatres including The Alley Theatre. Gavin is a graduate of Texas A&M University and is employed by Chevron/Texaco in Houston as a software and web design project coordinator. After honeymooning in Athens, Greece and the Greek Island of Santorini, Laura and Gavin will reside in Houston.

Senior fundraiser is a success

The 2003 Senior Trip Hair-A-Thon was a big success and seniors going on a senior trip cruise in June earned more than $400 towards their expenses for the trip during the fundraiser.

Gilda Vejil from Gilda's Shear Talent and Connie Herrera from Hair by Connie both donated their Saturday time to help these seniors by giving $10 hair cuts throughout the day.

Selena Machuca and Sandra Navarrete came in for their hair cuts and both donated their long, long hair of several years to the American Cancer Society that day.
