Philanthropy club plans donations

Odessa College's Students in Philanthropy Club is getting ready to donate approximately $17,000 to several local non-profit organizations.

SIP students raised the money through an SIP fund-raising event and a matching grant from the Abell-Hanger Foundation.

The SIP Club is a collaborative effort between the Abell-Hanger Foundation, the Hext Family Foundation and OC. Up to 20 eligible students are responsible each year for making grants to organizations that best address concerns of the program participants. SIP members also benefit by being eligible for a scholarship from the foundations.

The awards ceremony will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at OC in the Options Gallery located in the Learning Resources Center.

For more information, contact the club's secretary Tamara Cleere at 559-2207.
