Vasquez signs with Cisco JC
Former Pecos resident Angelique Vasquez, daughter of Pecos High School
graduate, Milissa Vasquez, signed a national letter of intent to accept full
volleyball scholarship from Cisco Junior College.
Both Angelique and Odessa High School classmate Schamaine Hawkins traveled
to Cisco to try out for the team last month. They went with hopes of impressing
the Lady Wranglers' head coach. They did, which led to their acceptance
to the school. Cisco's head coach Susan Moore told Angelique that she was
among the best setters they'd seen.
Angelique's signing was more the culmination of efforts spent in a lifetime
of playing the sport. "I've been playing volleyball since I was in second
or third grade," she said. She will now realize her dream of going to college
and playing volleyball.
Angelique comes from a family of volleyball players. Her great aunt Nora
Geron was head coach of the Eagles volleyball team for many years. Her aunt
Patty Hall started her coaching career in Pecos and is now the head volleyball
coach for the Monahans lady Lobos. Angelique recalls, "I don't remember
there being any pressure for me to play, but I was wanting to follow in my
family's footsteps."
Angelique is the daughter of Erasmo Acosta of Waupun, Wisconsin and the
granddaughter of George and Lois Vasquez and Erasmo and Susie Acosta.
