Rivas completes DPS training
Arnulfo A. Rivas, of Pecos, graduated from the Texas
Department of Public Safety's 123rd
"The men and women in today's graduating class are dedicated
to making Texas a safer place to live," said Lieutenant Governor
David Dewhurst, who spoke at the graduation ceremony. "They are
well trained and ready to provide the high quality of law enforcement
that Texans expect," he said.
Lt. Gov-elect David Dewhurst addressed the graduating class
at Riverbend Center in Austin.
DPS assistant directors Lt. Col. Frankie Waller and Lt. Col.
David McEathron also participated in the ceremony along with DPS
The 27-week school is the longest continuous training academy
offered by any law enforcement agency in Texas, and one of the longest in
the nation. The cadets entered the Academy in June and
completed 1,214 hours of instruction o- more than twice the training required
by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards
and Education. The students received instruction in criminal law, traffic
law, arrest procedures, accident investigation, first aid and other
law enforcement subjects, as well as classes aimed at developing
self-esteem and goal setting skills.
Trooper Rivas is assigned to the Highway Patrol in Pecos.
Santa Rosa Hall lunch plate sale set
An enchilada and chile verde con carne plate sale will be held
from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Friday, at the Santa Rosa Hall, 600 W. Third St.
