Eagles fall to Badgers at tourney
The McCamey Badgers came up with a first round victory over the Pecos
Eagles girls basketball team Thursday afternoon, in the opening round of
the Iraan Alley Hoop Tournament, as the Badgers downed the Eagles by a 55-36
final score.
The Eagles were scheduled to play a 12:30 p.m. game today in the tournament's
consolation round quarterfinals, but ended up drawing a bye thanks to Van
Horn's forfeit loss to Chrsitoval. Instead, the Eagles will wait until later
today to travel to Iraan, where they'll play a 6:30 p.m. game against either
District 4-3A rival Fort Stockton or the team they faced a week ago, Wink,
in the tournament's consolation semifinal game.
Eagles' post Tiana Terry had 10 points to lead Pecos in scoring, but the
Badgers' post Bridgette Ouelette scored 19 points for the second straight
game to lead McCamey, which is 14-2 on the season.
Pecos' loss dropped them to 5-5 going into today's game against Wink or
Fort Stockton. The Wildcats dropped their opening round game to Alpine, 55-41,
while Fort Stockton was beaten by Sonora in their first round match-up, 67-52.
If the Eagles win tonight, they'll play in the consolation finals at 3:30
p.m. on Saturday, while a loss would put them in the 11th place
game of the tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. Eldorado faces Fort Hancock
this afternoon and the winner takes on Irion County in this evening's other
consolation semifinal game.
